Chapter 1 - The Usual Introduction

My mornings usually starts when Ron wakes me up, but there was something unusual about today's morning. None of my roommates were present, "did I wake up too early today?" I questioned myself. Since, no one woke me up, I thought it's a great chance to sleep again, but suddenly a sound disturbed me. It was coming from upstairs, the corridors were dark and it was too cold outside. I didn't feel like going up there and check what was really wrong. The sound started becoming huge and disturbing to my ears. "Jimmy!! Jimmy!!" someone whispered my name. The room started shaking all of a sudden and I started feeling cold "No! What's going on?" I screamed inside my mind. Then I finally realized that I was dreaming, Ron was shouting (not whispering) my name, Vinnie was shaking my bed, and Jack threw my blanket away (the reason behind why all of a sudden I started feeling cold.)

"Wake up, you lazy ass! It's 7:30, don't curse me if you miss your breakfast." Ron shouted.

"What? 7:30? Tell me the headlines." I asked Vinnie, rubbing my eyes.

"You missed your morning studies, Mr.Nick was asking about you. I somehow managed to save you, so it's fine, nothing to worry about. Another good news, Mr.Sam don't know that you're still sleeping, so, you better get up and dress up fast." Vinnie closed his small black notepad.

Ron, the tech-guy and the football captain of our school, Mr.Sam's sidekick, he really admire Ron. I call him as the alarm clock of our room, cause he's the early bird and wakes everyone up.

Vinnie, two year junior than me and Ron, he's the helper of our room. Does everything without showing any attitude and anger, sometimes he does, but let it be. He's super friendly with me and I take it as an advantage because he's really good at cleaning up my stuffs.

Jack, three years junior than us, a football fanatic and was the most silent guy of our hostel , until he moved in our room. He became so talkative and funny after he started living with us. He used stay with the juniors when he first came to the hostel. He helps the helper (Vinnie) with everything, from cleaning to personal stuffs.

Mr.Sam, our school manager as well as our daddy (hostel warden). We love calling him that, he's really very good at giving advices, driving cars, playing guitars. He's a complete whole book of knowledge.

And there's Jimmy, that's me, the super lazy guy, who wakes up late, sleeps during lectures and ugly as hell. All bad things about me huh? Well, let me tell you the good stuffs about me, I'm a martial artist, a wannabe detective and a foodie. Even though I eat so much, I'm still thin. I have no idea why it's happening to me. *cause you're lazy* (the inner me).

I somehow managed to keep my feet on the ground and stand up and walk straight to the washroom. By the time I returned, my shoes were polished, my bed was neatly made and on top of it my uniform was ready to wear. All thanks to Vinnie and Jack.

The bell rang for breakfast, our dining hall was on the top floor, I quickly got dressed up because I don't want Mr.Sam to know that I woke up lately.

Vinnie always used to wait for me but today he hurried to the dining hall, and he even told me to hurry up. I ran upstairs tucking in my shirt and pulling up the zip. The dining hall was entirely silent, everyone was busy praying. I tiptoed to my table and sat down. Ron's eyes were fully and tightly closed, don't know what he was asking for, and on the other hand, Vinnie was making funny faces to make me laugh and to break the spiritual peacefulness.

"Okay, junior dorm, you may go and start eating." Mr.Sam directed. "What's wrong with your eyes, Jim?" he asked me. "You woke up late, isn't it?" " and you didn't go for your morning studies, why?" he added more questions.

"No, sir! Actually  I was having a headache." I lied.

"Headache? Mr. Nick called me this morning and he said you were having a stomach ache." Mr.Sam continued questioning.

"Actually, due to the stomach ache, I had a headache." said I. "What? What am I saying?" I question myself softly. I turned to Vinnie and whispered "Why this was not highlighted in your headlines?" Vinnie smiled and showed his 'M' finger to me. "You always wake up late, I always clean your mess, and now you're questioning me?" he whispered.

"Okay, senior dorm, move!" Mr.Sam directed.

The best thing about being a hosteler is that we start becoming more discipline, we start following time tables, we start being responsible but everything was opposite in my life. I still sleep for like 10 hours, I still miss my morning studies, and I still don't know how to become responsible, there's totally some defect in me. I must try working on it as soon as possible.

After a heavy breakfast, it's the time to go to school, and meet some more new characters in my life.

We went back to our dorm, the first thing I always do after eating is lay down on my bed. I did it. Ron and Jack picked up their bags and went ahead of me. But me, I prefer staying at my room until the prayer bell rings. Vinnie's also started being just like me, earlier he used to wake up early on sundays, never miss his sunday breakfast but after I came into his life, he started waking up late on sundays, started skipping breakfast on sundays. I am the bad influence over here. And even now, he too started laying down on his bed and wait for the prayer bell to ring.

The bell goes off at around 8:15, and our breakfast time is at around 8, so if I calculate we get only 5 minutes to rest after breakfast. This 5 minutes are the most precious minutes in my life, I can jump around, do some fancy kicks, or just lazily lay down and think how many off periods do I have in my schedule today.

The bell rang, I woke myself up from my daydream and looked for Vinnie. That ass left without informing me. I hurried downstairs and oh shit! I forgot to carry my bag. I again ran upstairs to my room, picked up my bag, and again ran downstairs.

"Hello, my friend!" said Mr.Rick, school's one and only security guard.

"Yo, Mr.Rick, how's life?" I said and without hearing his answer, I ran straight to the assembly ground.

I saw all my classmates were busy mentoring the juniors, and making up their lines.

"Hey ass, late again?" someone bumped me. It was Alvin. He was from the science department, even though we are from different departments we are still good friends.

"Hey ass, early again?" I said, bumping him.

"Jim! Come over here, help me straightening the lines." Led shouted.

Led, I prefer calling her Leddy. The brightest girl of our department. Nothing more to say about her, she's friendly to everyone.

I ran towards her, and helped her doing whatever she told me to.

The principal came and stood behind Ron, while Ron was busy arranging the microphone.

"Ma'am, everything's ready. We may start!" said Ron.

The morning prayer started, and the juniors started chanting it in high notes. Our prayers are usually like that, the juniors shows their spirit. The prayer went for like three minutes.

"Good morning students, how are you all?" Principal ma'am's starting line of her daily morning lecture.

"Finnnnneeeeeeeeeee!" the juniors showed their spirits again.

"Okay, I've to inform you all...." her lecture went on. I prayed for her lecture to be small,my legs started hurting. So, I moved my legs a bit.

"Jimmy? Are you tired of standing, you may come here and sit." said the principal in front of everyone.

I smiled and said "No, ma'am, it's fine."

Her lecture was still going on. 40 minutes passed away. I was tired but at the same time I was happy because there was only 10 minutes left for our first period to end.

Ms.Sherry, our geography teacher as well as our class teacher, she always make us study even if there's a world war going on.

Finally, principal ma'am's lecture came to an end and we completed our assembly with the national anthem.

I was still carrying my bag, and walking proudly until Ms.Annie saw me.

"Show me your nails!"

I know very well that I have a sack of problems inside me but there's one problem which I'll hate all my entire life.

My nails grow faster.

I remember cutting my nails last sunday along with Ron. But Ron safely went ahead whereas I had to wait till the nail cutter comes up to me.

Something's totally wrong with me.

I waited for like two minutes and then finally I got the nail cutter to cut my nails in front of Ms.Annie.

Students who came late were running, some were doing crunches, some were busy doing frog jumps. Well, I was lucky that I wasn't that late. "I shouldn't wait for the prayer bell from now onwards." said the inner me.

I cut my nails, Ms.Annie checked it. It was alright. She looked at me and pinched my hand "You better cut your nails from next time." she said and let me go.

I ran up to my classroom, everyone was busy talking, some of them were busy doing pranks on each other.

"Yo, Good morning!" I greeted everyone.

"Morning, you're late." Dona said and adjusted her big round specs.

Dona is the most mysterious girl of our class. She don't speak much but when she does, no one can stop her. She always pay attention in the class but when the teacher ask her something, she's unable to answer. Maybe she act like she's paying attention but her mind is out of this world.

Mrs.Sherry came in running and wrote something on the blackboard.

"This is your syllabus for your upcoming exam, note it down. If someone fails in my subject, I'm directly gonna give you a zero in your practical." She said in an angry tone.

Everyone started jotting down the syllabus. "Uh..Richie, can you please lend me a pen. I forgot mine." I said.

Richie gave me his, after completing noting down the syllabus.

"Make sure, you don't forget your pen during your exam time." Mrs.Sherry advised.

Now I gotta show all of my classmates and the teachers that this lazy ass can also score good marks. I motivated myself, even though knowing it won't last long.
