Chapter 1 - Mornings are always rough.

Beep Beep Beep

"Urgh..." Jack woke to the sound of his alarm blaring like the building was on fire, not that the alarm was the reason he'd awoken he'd soundly slept through his alarm on more the one occasion. The reasons he was awake had just jumped off of him with considerable force and were now clawing at the closed bedroom door.

"Calm down you two it's only my alarm the dorms not actually burning down." Jack called as he sat up and slapped the alarm, "C'mere guys it's alright, no need to be jumpy. And be careful with those claws Lynxet you nearly tore me in half."

The Wild rabbit and Wild house cat stopped clawing through the door and padded over to him. Both of the Wild creatures were roughly the size of a wild dog and terribly uncomfortable to be stepped upon by. Lynxet the Wild cat Apologetically rubbed her head against Jack. He sat there for a few minutes petting the animals heads before getting up and walking across the room.

"Ok then, out you go." Jack said as he opened the door. The Wild creatures reluctantly left disappointed that they wouldn't be able to nap any more today. Jack closed the door after them and moved over to his dresser, glancing back at his clock and put on his Academy uniform and Id Bracelet.

The Id Bracelets were a newer piece of tech developed in the past 20 years only given to the Remnant's Border Defense or Conquest Academy's students. The Bracelets were -as expected- used as the Defense member and student's Ids and stored their identities, rank ,Academy and military records, as well as their complete medical history. They were also fully capable telecommunication devices capable of sending and receiving calls, messages, pictures, and data files as well as automatically activating an emergency beacon in response to a variety of vital signs. Needless to say the common citizen didn't have the slightest chance of getting their hands on one.

Despite the fact that they were very specifically named Id Bracelets the most recent few iterations of them were not only bracelets but rings and necklaces as well. Jack had randomly chosen the

traditional bracelet shape when he got accepted and began to regret it slightly after most every one else showed up to their first classes with rings and pendants engraved with family crests or cool designs. He'd gotten over it since and now in his last year at the Academy he felt the simplicity quite suited him.

Jack finished adjusting his clothes and left. He walked down the hall to the kitchen staying to the center of the hall avoiding the spiderwebs strung in the corners. About halfway to the kitchen one of the resident spiders lightly descended to his shoulder. It was was the size of a mouse, slightly smaller than the majority of its Wild kin and a sleek black as well, perhaps a different species entirely.

"Hello Nox, how're you today?" Jack casually asked the arachnid as if it could respond. "Planning on having breakfast with me again? I do enjoy the company. Getting a dorm building to yourself is nice but a rundown one that was scheduled to be demolished the year you entered the Academy feels a bit like exile." Jack sighed and walked into the kitchen.

There was an enormous hive built through what remained of a window and into half of the cupboards. Jack casually flipped through the un-hived cupboards ans the fridge considering what to do for breakfast. He decided on making some waffles since he'd woken up on time today and didn't need to be in class for an hour. There was a convenient hole in the Bumblebee hive behind one of the cupboard doors that Jack used to access the queen's nectar pot and borrow some nectar.

"Morning Dandelion, I'm borrowing some more nectar I'll bring you some flowers later." The Wild bumblebee queen lumbered out of the nest to give a friendly headbutt to Jack's shoulder before going back to her duties.

While Nox went off to grab some leftover prey Jack quickly whipped up some waffles and pulled a pound of beef out of the fridge. After putting it in Lynxet's bowl and making sure the rabbit had some greens he and Nox 'sat down' to a nice breakfast. Jack polished off the waffles while Nox enjoyed her ... 'beverage' he made sure he put everything away neatly grabbed all the necessary materials for class today and walked towards the front entrance.

"Nox, hold the fort while I'm gone, keep the place from collapsing, Everyone else, you know the drill Nox is in charge while I'm out since she's the most responsible of you lot." His parting jab was met by a low growl and a bit of buzzing, but no outright challenges which is to be expected when no one in the house can talk. Jack chuckled at the response and left for another day of classes.
