Chapter 61 - Straight to Mount Barker

Lachlan talked a bit more with James, "So what happened to May and Jack?"

"May was fired while Jack retired," James responded as a frown appeared across his face. It seems Jack specifically was a difficult topic to talk about. But considering James' wording it seems they aren't dead yet.

"Anyway, you all should enjoy your time on the boat. There are a few facilities for fun and you can become friends with some of the soldiers," James quickly changed the topic. The group did just that and left the room.

The time on the spent was peaceful to Lachlan, as he stared across the calm ocean. He would then looked back and notice the armada of ships, all of which were filled with experienced and strong soldiers. Although Lachlan felt pretty confident he could beat them just through his strength alone.

For the few hours that is lasted Lachlan spent a bit of time competing against the soldiers in a game room. It was primarily used for soldiers to relax after a hard battle or mission since their mental state should always be at peak condition.

He also played a few sports with them. A quick game of basketball then indoor soccer. His team had lost but that was mainly because he hasn't played with a soccer ball in literal years. He didn't mind though, he rather enjoyed the games.

The soldiers, on the other hand, were quite excited about playing some games with Lachlan. They had heard quite a lot about him and the group, mainly about their overwhelming strength. James was seriously considering hiring them, but that could be postponed until they meet up with their families.

The meals that were on the ship were amazing as well. They had professional chefs to cook for the soldiers delicious and nutritional meals. Lachlan talked to some of the soldiers while he ate, listening to their stories.

The number of victories they have under their belt.

It didn't take long before they finally reached Brisbane. Looking across the water Lachlan saw a thriving city, filled with life. 'It seems things have really calmed down' Lachlan felt as though he could actually relax in such a world.

The battleships and carriers stopped at the port, this would be the place they restock and a few of them go to meet their families. As they were getting off Lachlan noticed a large shark beneath the boat.

It quickly poked its head out the water and poked James with its nose. Lachlan thought it would be James, considering he has another soul contract used up.

The shark was pitch black and 19 metres long, it was roughly 3 - 4 metres wide and gave off an aura. Lachlan could already tell what the aura was, it was something he is now familiar with.

"Strong shark you got there," Lachlan knew there was something familiar with this shark. It was the king's aura it gave off. But there was one other thing amongst its strengths that attracted Lachlan's attention, Dark Sea King's Domain.

Whenever Lachlan thinks of a domain he thinks of an area around the shark that's completely under its control. It could either heavily affect anything in its domain, giving more suppression then the aura or it might be able to control everything in its domain.

"Indeed, something I tamed back in the Pacific Ocean," James said, he seemed to have gone in a trance thinking about the past, "That was a fun adventure, we had just survived a battle."

"Anyway, I might get going, back to South Australia. I really miss my family," Lachlan said. He had been constantly thinking about his family on the way back, not to mention he was always thinking about them while on the island.

"Of course you would, you're still young. So during this time making sure to spend the most amount of time as you can with your family," James said. He understood Lachlan's worries and feelings, it wouldn't be right to ask him to completely abandon his family again.

'Come on out Calamity' Lachlan summoned Calamity and hopped on while holding onto his bag tightly, he turned around and waved goodbye towards the group, "I'll be back sometime later," They were still planning on meeting up later.

Calamity spread its wings wide and swung down. Quickly shooting off into the air, gaining the attention of all the citizens and a few soldiers. It wasn't common for people to fly around cities due to a few laws that had been placed. Although, if you're fast enough it isn't as though anyone can tell you off.

After getting far enough to the point he couldn't see the city properly he took out the gravity stone in his pocket. He was surprised James didn't ask him about it but that might be because he'll ask at a later date.

Lachlan ordered the gravity around his and Calamity's bodies to be decreased to zero. Further increasing the speed at which they flew. This was a trick he thought about just as they were leaving the island.

Once he met his family he would definitely go back and see if he can get to the centre of the island through its use. He desired to get to the tree, but training to get to there would still be incredibly difficult.

It didn't take long to reach Adelaide with their new speed. The view didn't disappoint him as it was similar to Brisbane. Thriving with life as everyone poured into there for safety. Lachlan realised the people staying in the cities still probably reject everything that's happened and just want things to go back to normal.

Some of them might have even seen a beast, which was rather unlikely but not impossible.

Once he reached Adelaide he turned direction. Going straight towards Mount Barker and shot off, some people in the city noticed him in the distance. But seeing Calamity not go towards them calmed them down.

It didn't take long for Lachlan to reach Mount Barker, but the sight was something he didn't expect. He also felt his heart begin to pump faster, he had a bad premonition and started to worry.

Everything had been destroyed. Most of the houses had been razed to the ground, some of them looked like they were burnt down. Lachlan saw the place where the military should have been stationed but couldn't sense anything. He went down to take a closer look but it was completely empty, aside from the bloodstains covering the ground and walls there was no one there.

'I sense something in that direction' Calamity said as he pointed his face towards a group of houses relatively untouched. The beasts have heightened senses so Lachlan trusted Calamity's judgement. There was still a bit of hope that his family could be in Adelaide now.

But that hope was crushed when he saw two tombstones. Lachlan's body felt weak, his mind almost broke at sight. On the tombs read Jack Wilson and Adam Wilson, it was written in blood that had long since dried and stained the rock.

Lachlan reached out and grabbed them, his mind going at a lightning pace to digest everything. He felt as though it would explode. He brushed his hand across the names, his tears pouring out.

Clenching his fist he slammed them down, causing small craters to form in the ground, "Damnit!" Lachlan kept pounding at the ground. His tamed beasts felt a brush of hatred come from Lachlan, they could feel his regret and hatred in his discussion to leave.

'Father, there's something underground' Calamity tried to give Lachlan a bit of hope. Lachlan jumped up and rushed towards the house, he saw some bloodstains on the ground leading to a hatch that had been sealed tightly.

He grabbed hold of the handle and tried twisting it. He realised it was locked so he gripped harder, his strength crushed the metal between his hands. He squatted down and pulled back with all his strength, his feet sinking into the ground before he heard the hatch begin to give out.

Lachlan gave one final tug and ripped it from the ground, he saw a staircase leading further down. Lachlan threw the hatch on the ground behind him and sprinted down. But the moment he got to the bottom was the moment his heartstrings burst apart.

There, one a slab of concrete lay a beautiful middle-aged woman. Her hair spreading across the ground, her completion was completely snow white. She had no breath, nor a heartbeat.

"Mum"
