Assana had been asleep in the infirmary for a few hours. Her friends were extremely worried about her since she never came to eat lunch with them. Assana didn't appear in time for class, either. No one knew where she was except for Amanda and the few students that had watched the scene unfold.
"No one knows where Assana went to?" The teacher asked, disdain filling up his veins. No one would dare skip class, especially his. This teacher was well known for his strict teachings and tough disciplinary methods. Every student feared the idea of being one minute late, yet this girl dared to miss the entire class.
A male student raised his hand, interrupting the teacher's train of thought. "Professor, I saw Assana heading towards the infirmary with Amanda."
Narrowing his eyes, the teacher stared at the floor. He needed to go look for Assana, but he couldn't leave the class all alone. As if hearing his thoughts, Joash told the teacher that he would go and look for his missing classmate while he started the lesson.
The teacher nodded his head and Joash went off. He began to briefly explain how the classes will work and what they must do in order to have a bigger chance of staying in school without getting into trouble.
Joash walked the empty halls in a bit of a hurry. He doesn't know why he wanted to check if Assana was okay, but something inside of told him that he should hurry. Worry was hiding beneath his cold eyes and he moved in such a way that made others believe that he was completely relaxed. However, his pace was much faster than normal.
Despite knowing the location of the infirmary, Joash got lost a few times because of the thoughts invading his mind.
What if something was truly happening to her right now and he wasn't there in time?
Joash shook away his negative thoughts. Him going to check on her was only a one-time thing. He was going to check on her to relieve his worries and then leave her be.
The reason why he's so worried must be because of the Prophesy he was told. If the Prophesy isn't fulfilled, darkness will swallow them whole. This is the reason why the director of the school went to talk to Assana personally. Not only that, but he also took Joash, one of the most powerful students!
Finally arriving at the infirmary, Joash places his hand on the door and froze. Assana is definitely not alone.
Slowly cracking the door open, he quietly observed the inside of the room. There were shards of glass littering the floor. Joash looked at the ceiling and narrowed his eyes at the broken lightbulb. This must have been caused by some powerful energy.
Assana was laying on the bed motionless. Her arms were covered in small cuts. Her dark hair was sprawled on the pillow and there was ethereal energy being transmitted by her.
Joash's eyes widened once more. It wasn't because of surprise, but actually out of shock as he saw what was beside her.
This entity… it wasn't supposed to exist. His skin was a sickly gray color and his eyes were dull and lifeless. This type of being isn't able to feel any emotion towards humans whatsoever. Despite this, he was staring at Assana with love and adoration.
The being quickly noticed Joash's presence and stood up in front of Assana. It was like he was protecting her for some strange reason.
"Please, don't hurt her. Without her, I'd die."
The being's eyes watered while mentioning the girl laying on the bed, but no tears came out. He slowly relaxed his fighting stance, showing Joash that he posed no threat.
Joash, on the other hand, didn't relax. He was still on high alert. His eyes moved between Assana and the being as he tried to come up with a solution for this problem.
Should Joash kill him or tend to Assana immediately? Killing this being meant that he gains experience and he could get rid of a potential threat. However, his powers still weren't stabilized and he could hurt himself and Assana.
The gray-eyed being noticed his hesitance and smiled. "There's no need to worry. I'm just about to leave."
Joash didn't completely trust his words and narrowed his eyes at him, expecting him to go back on his words and attack. However, the gray boy shook his head and slowly began to disappear, leaving behind a trail of light blue lights.
After disappearing, the cold and forced atmosphere was lifted, making Joash sigh in relief. Who knew he would encounter such a powerful spirit at the beginning of the school year? Something was definitely different this year.
Perhaps it was the Prophesy that Assana must fulfill. The headmaster himself went to pick up Assana to take her to this school and it was because they couldn't let her fall into the wrong hands. They even took him to be sure that Assana would agree to come to Atalearth.
Right now, the last thing the teachers and headmaster wants is that the powers some kids possess show up much sooner than expected. This will just end up in total disaster since no one is ready to deal with their abilities. However, they might need to prepare themselves either way.
The appearance of the strong spirit meant that the Prophesy has already begun, whether people like it or not. Evil people will try to take Assana away or they will try to manipulate her in the shadows.
Joash stared at Assana's sleeping face while smiling sadly. This girl had so many things on her shoulders. She doesn't know all of the challenges she will face and all of the responsibilities that will be given to her.
Finally, Assana's cuts were finally treated. The floor was totally clean as if nothing had happened. The only thing people could deem as strange was Joash rushing out of the infirmary and heading to class.
Ah, he had spent so much time dealing with the spirit and treating Assana that he forgot that he had his own classes to attend to!
