Audrey went early to school, excited and nervous at the same time. She wanted to do three things today: First is to apologize to Aiden; second is to say that she wanted to go back the way they were before and; third is to confirm what she really feels towards him by being as close to him as possible. It's like indulging and getting yourself intoxicated by something potent in order to know how high your tolerance level is.
With him being around again she thought that she'll be able to name out what she really feel towards him. Is he just a friend? Is he just another school mate? Is she just admiring him as a person? Is it just infatuation? A crush? Or is it love?
As expected Kylie was surprised about her dear jelly bean appearing early at their classroom, it's almost comical. She looked really blooming today as if something good has happened. Audrey wanted to ask her about it but she was being overpowered by Kylie's early morning greeting.
"OMG Audrey! Are you sick again?"
"Good morning to you too Kylie. Can't you just appreciate that I've been going to school early now?"
"We both know how you always got into trouble for always always late. You're lucky that all of our teachers are letting you off with a special project."
"A very hard special project. That reminded me of the book that Mr. Cruz asked me to find. I almost went crazy looking for it. My brother even got mad at me because of it because we were like a broken record asking the same things all over again at almost a hundred bookstores."
"Oh yes! I remember that. You even asked my help to call a couple of numbers on the phone. That was really harsh. It's almost as if we're looking for a non-existent book at that time."
"Definitely! It was all thanks to Kyle who was such a hero to the rescue. I was really thankful that Mr. Cruz didn't give me a time limit back then. I think he also knows that it's hard to get that book because when I handed it over to him I think I saw glitters shining on his eyes."
"How is Kyle?" Kylie asked as they both sat on their seats.
"I'm still waiting for a reply from my previous mail to him. I think he's doing fine."
"He's really mysterious you know. He keeps on sending photos but never a single photo of him."
"Yeah but I like the mystery. Who knows when will my memory be back? He said that it's better for me to remember what he looks like and not rely on a photo that might make him still look as a stranger to me. The doctors said that it was still possible for me to remember my past but I don't know. The harder I tried to remember the more it made me feel like my past should stay sealed the way it were. It feels as if whatever has happened in the past should remain in the past."
Kylie didn't reply for she felt Audrey's sentiment from those words. It was only a couple of years but it feels as if it was just yesterday when they first met. She may not be able to fully understand what it really feels to lost your own memory and how much she could have felt back then but just hearing how your precious friend say such things whenever it reminded her of her past, it already hurts her so much. She then decided to change the subject by asking something else.
"It's really suspicious whenever you appear this early at school. So, what's up?"
Audrey looked perplexed for a second. She looked real guilty that there's no need for her to answer that question for her answer was written all over her face already. Her eyes wandered around for a moment as if she's looking for someone. There were still a few of her classmates around. She then notices that who she's looking for is not yet present.
"Actually I'm looking for…"
"Aiden?"
"How'd you know??"
"It's pretty obvious. Everyone can tell. You two looked like you were purposely avoiding each other. You were like so close and then suddenly you were so far as if there was an invisible 50 meters distance that should be observed. What's wrong you people? You're wasting both of your time and energy. You need to make up already! You're making me want to chain you two up then lock you both under some kind of abandoned dungeon till you reconcile with each other!" She smirked teasing Audrey.
"That's what I actually wanted to do."
"What? You wanted to be locked up in some spooky dungeon with him?"
"No. Not that. I wanted to talk to him and sort this thing out."
"Finally! My gosh you made me so anxious for days! It almost made me crazy! What do you plan on saying anyway? Wait…don't tell me you're going to confe…mph!"
Audrey covered Kylie's mouth before she could even finish the word "confess", that suddenly made her feel embarrassed.
"Sshh! It's not that!"
Kylie removed Audrey's hands away from her and asked hastily, "So when are planning on confe…"
"Ssshh!!!" She then covered her mouth again and added, "You are such a Scrappy-Doo sometimes! I should better start calling you Kylie-Doo."
Audrey was then reminded of the time where she said the words "I'm afraid that I have fallen in love with you." She hasn't been in love, at least that what she knows. She's no stranger to the word "love" but is a stranger to what it really feels.
There were different types of love to begin with and the difference of it is what she's trying to find out. She doesn't want to assume in making herself believe in what she thought she felt was true but is not. Love was never easy but it wasn't also that hard.
"Okay I'll behave now." Kylie set herself free from Audrey's hands for the second time around. It then reminded her of a crucial detail that she should have said earlier to her embarrassed-looking friend. So she said, "I should have told you this earlier but no matter how you wait for Aiden. He won't be coming."
"He won't be coming? Is he perhaps sick? Oh gosh it's my entire fault! He must have overworked himself by thinking too much and got sick instead! I should go over his house later. Do you know his address? I think I should ask my brother perhaps he knows? Gosh I'm panicking!"
"Calm down he's not sick."
"If he's not sick then what is it?"
"Actually I think he won't be coming to school tomorrow too."
"What do you mean?"
"Aiden he…he had to leave."
