The long of it is very emotional and has a lot of run on sentences and really is just a garbage fest of me spewing my guts to you all about how much you mean to me. So I'll spare you that and say this:


I went to Afghanistan in January 2019, and while I was there I wrote No One's Hero and shared it with you all. You made me feel like a real author. A proper writer. You filled my heart with hope, and I can never possibly thank you enough. If I succeed, it will be because of you all.


This is one of my favorite stories. Isaac is such a hilarious character that you just can’t help but fall in love with. With the incredibly high levels of snark and ability to make fun of just about every cliché out there, I would HIGHLY recommend this story to anyone looking for something fun. 

Masterpiece... A story replete of humor... With a MC who sarcastically confronts all the cliche situations of the popular stories... all the same he also has a kind side... And a hidden story that I want to know more about...

Writing, Updates, Story, Character: 5

The Writing is correct in technical terms. Stylistically, it's very s.imple, but very engaging nevertheless. On one hand, I wish the language, phrasing, and depictions could be more flavorful and vivid, but on the other, the s.impler language makes the story content more pronounced so as to appreciate the events more. But I think a balance could be struck to make it more stylistic as well as engaging/focused to the story.

The overall story and characters are brilliant. The idea is very novel, at least to me, in having a MC hero who doesn't want to be a hero despite having various "story plots" thrown at him left, right, above, below, and diagonally (and I suppose in dreams and parallel worlds too lol). It makes for a VERY comedic story (funniest ever on here HANDS DOWN that I've read thus far), but it has some very touching, teary even, moments that add real depth to the story too.

Initially, the MC can come off somewhat arrogant, unfeeling, maybe even un-relatable in the sense that he doesn't save everyone and puts himself first while making one ask why doesn't he want more spice in his life when he seems (tho sarcastically so) bored of the mediocrity in said life. To protect himself, he doesn't hesitate to dodge every bullet while essentially throwing others under the road (altho very amusingly and humorously so at times). But even with the flaws in his character, they have real reasons behind them even though it takes some time to reveal and understand based on his backstory. Additionally, he, Isaac has wonderful character development.

As for the other characters, they are maybe a little less so, but quite distinctive and very well fleshed out in themselves even while being the exact "character trope" of vampire girl, trash talking beauty, etc.

All that said, I can't say honestly that while I truly appreciated the character developments in this story, that I really "love" the characters. But I think this is more of a personal connection thing. However, perhaps with a longer story and more events as well as detail to existing ones (sometimes there minor skips that felt like they could explained in more depth---but not because they weren't understood, but simply to immerse oneself in the story events more), a stronger connection can be formed.

In other words, rather than feeling sympathetic for Isaac, I felt sympathetic to the feelings he felt, the feelings that people can relate to, and those real people who feel them and are stuck, lost, or confused, etc. Regardless, altogether well done. I'm only nitpicking the finer, less palpable details.

World: 4
The only reason why I give this a 4 is because of numerous questions arising in the beginning on the workings of the world and how being a main character is almost like a disease, or curse really, that no one seems to want. A very intriguing one, but I feel like could've been delved more into, or clarified more quickly in the beginning. But more importantly, the finer details of the world settings and being "immersed" in that world were lacking. Although I was hooked into the story, the immersion was never quite there where I felt that I was in that scene with them, that the story felt "alive." But to be fair, that might be due to the very plot of the story itself as it's based on humoring and spinning the "typical" hero story tropes. In that sense, perhaps the world never felt quite believable, and thus, it always felt like I was 'reading' a story rather than 'being' in that world.

And for anyone that dared to read this or, TLDR:

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND READ THIS BEAUTY.

Ok, 'nuff said. The fact that I even felt compelled to write in caps is a telltale sign of my admiration and fondness for this book. Amazing work Author~! Keep it up!

Do yourself a favor and just read this.  I know I am only a few chapters in but this author clearly knows how to take the concept and ride it for months without running out of sass.

No One's Hero is absolutely one of my favorite books I have ever read. The story follows Issac Grey who has been "cursed" to be the main character. The plot develops with his attempts to prevent story plots from happening around him. 

The main reasons to read this book are the wonderful comedic interactions between characters that seem to be living and the almost self aware plot.
The only drawback to this amazing book is that there is likely to be only a single chapter a week. Leaving a work made for quality over quantity.

I love this book to the point of rereading chapters and I hope that if you took the time to read my review, you will too.

I'm already addicted. I read a tumblr post about this years ago and I'm glad to see someone doing something with the idea. 
The snark levels are high, and I find myself actually laughing out loud at some of the dialogue.

Crazy ,different, a lot of  potential. Really liked it can’t wait for second book

Just drove by; heard a lot of noice in the neighbourhood and stopped to see what it was all about.

Taking the antihero for a ride, twisting the concept, deconstructing it and putting it all back together again was not what I had expected.

So you have your jerk ass 'I ain't anyone's hero' doing his best to avoid, well, becoming a hero. Duh!

At eighteen chapters we have a fully developed and finished story arc. It's a pleasure to read. A little terse, but it works perfectly with this story. Irony, sarcasm, deadpan jokes and a little love all mixed into an unholy mess of goodness.

Make no mistake about it. Our main character is most definitely the main character, and he's a selfish bastard. Luckily for us he grows up quite a bit as the story progresses -- he still remains a selfish bastard at heart, even though by the end he can't really say 'I ain't anyone's hero' without twitching at least a little.

A first person point of view story, with than angle used to the utmost. Yes, there are a small amount of tense and PoV -errors that can't be chalked down to playing around with the writing, but 'small amount' is the key word here.

Stars.

Writing: Five stars. Almost flawless.

Updates: Four stars. There are holes. There are reasons. I don't review reasons.

Story: Five stars. Basically superb.

Character: Five stars. Main character, main supporting cast al have personalisties. Side characters are excused for not having them.

World: The weakest part of this story, but still a five star delivery.

Lastly, I can only say one thing. Go read. It's only eighteen chapters. You don't have an excuse to not see this one through.

Woah I'm simply amazed. I liked the healthy humor along the way making things interesting and a nice read. I HIGHLY recommend it to those who love to read humorous transitions in a good setting. 
As for the writing quality, it was one of the best novels I've read on WN.
Keep it up author I'm looking forward to read more.

The writing is absolutely delightful. The humor is on point. The characters are adorable.

I really don't want to write much because this is an experience one should take for themselves. It's a wonderful laugh trip.

Their conversation/arguments/etc. made me speechless. (It was so hilarious) 😂😂  Though the writing quality needs little polishment.

No ones hero is a journey into the mind of the what if. What if the hero rejected their so called "destiny"? What if they were actively aware of their fate? Can you even reject the path life has set for you?

The story follows Isaac, our fated hero, who attempts to do just that: Avoid his fate. Comedy ensued as destiny claws at his ankles desperately trying to being him in to the fold.

The character development is excellent hosting an array of intriguing characters with ponderous back stories and humorous confrontations and love failures. The world development is easy on the mind. The backdrop is comfortably familiar for many, even those such as myself who aren't born in the US. The writing is very good and the reader is instantly engaged with the development of the prolific "hero", in lieu of an appropriate soubriquet, and his downward spiral into his own abyys.

An amazing story, and one written as an actual novel not a continuous indeterminate length series of chapters. The update can be a bit sporadic as the author is a currently deployed military servicmember. The world serting could use a bit more development (personally the setting somewhat reminds me of one of my favorite series "Please Don't Tell My Parents..." so I have just been assuming the world is just a big mash-up type deal with everyone somewhat effected by various plots and story tropes in day to day life, just that the MC tries to avoid them as he is a plot magnet) as there isn't too much development of the world due to the nature of the MC and thus following him we too end up avoiding many plots and world developments with only a few hints of other various goings on. That said by the end of the first volume and the preview of the second we do have a progression of the MC's own personal world. Or perhaps 'sphere of influence' would be a better way to describe it.
