***Alyssa's pov***
As Rowan walked back around to the front there was a look on his face that wasn't promising a good outcome. Does that even make sense? Oh well, it doesn't matter. When he finally got close enough in front of me he shook his head and said "There are only two options, one is to call someone to help us or…. the second option is for me to lift you up into an open window I saw. Take your pick, I don't mind either way."
I took a long and hard thinking about the two options before I replied, "Well since I don't have my phone on me and it looks like you don't either, you might have to lift me into the window"
"Plan B it is then" Rowan finally replied in what I believe to be a sarcastic tone, how typical.
I finally made it into the window after many failures and falls. Sometimes Rowan fell over in the dirt taking me with him and the rest of the time it was all me, I was the reason we fell. We did that multiple times I might add not to mention the aftermath of our stupidity. A searing pain in my lower back, that suggests I may have bruised something, how great is that.
It only took a few seconds to run downstairs and grab my keys on the table to unlock the door for Rowan. I immediately regretted running as my back was still killing me from all the times I landed on the ground.
I got to the door and then I remembered Ruby. Ruby is my puppy, although anyone who met her wouldn't say that. After my parents died she has always attacked everyone who she doesn't know or if anyone comes near me. It was too late. Ruby came running and barking and attacked Rowan when he entered my home.
I'm laughing my head off! Rowan is currently running down the road thinking that will get him away from Ruby! That isn't the only funny part, he is screaming, full on belting his lungs out. (not like you'd expect to mind you). I mean he is screeching in a really high pitched voice. What's even better is that it is sometimes just screeching but other times he is screaming at other pedestrians saying "Run it'll kill you!!"
**Time Skip**
It took awhile for Rowan to first get used to Ruby and then second to actually go inside with her near him. Once that was over I could finally sit down and relax for a bit. Luckily for me, Rowan decided to stay with me I'm guessing for a few reasons but definitely not because of Ruby. "I'm glad you decided to stay, I thought I was going to be alone again." I needed you to start a conversation and it seems I did because Rowan decided to start monologuing.
"It's not an issue, I know how it feels. Quite often my parents left me at home by myself while they went off on business. It would always be when I needed them the most as if they could tell something was wrong and they wanted to get away so they didn't have to deal with it."
It was at that point I was speechless. The sorrow and heartbreak I heard in his voice broke me. The words I formed in my mouth went away and everything going on in my head disappeared. I could tell him my story, but then it would make him feel like his story wasn't important. Or I could not say a word, but then he might think that I was ignoring him. So I just spoke and I didn't try to overthink everything.
"I can't say I completely understand your situation but I can say that it always seems to happen that way. Some people you can't live with or without them so you just have to choose."
I know this was true. It happened to me but I didn't mention that to him, it wouldn't be right. The clock ticked by and those few silent seconds felt like minutes so I spoke up. "Do you want anything to eat?"
It took Rowan a few seconds to register what I said as if he was lost in thought.
"If it's not too much trouble that would be great, I haven't eaten in a while so I'm starving."
He was right, it's been hours since we had last eaten anything and it seemed we were both really hungry. "It's not too much trouble I was getting myself something anyway. What would you like?" I said
"I wouldn't know, I'll come and help then I'll decide." So Rowan got up and walked with me down the hallway to the kitchen.
We were in the middle of making lunch when I turned on the tap and it blasted me in the face! I jumped back and tried to find the dishcloth to wipe my face and neck when Rowan passed it to me. I continued to make lunch for the both of us consisting of a few biscuits, cheese and cabanossi one of my favourite lunches and sat back down in the living room.
The house shook as a thud echoed dorm from upstairs in one of the rooms, I didn't take much notice of it until I heard it again. I left Rowan in the living room and started to walk upstairs, it was eerie and I felt like someone was watching me but I continued on. I searched all the rooms from top to bottom, I started with my room, then the bathrooms and the study, then all of the others but nothing seems out of place. There was only one room left, the room I hadn't been in since my parents had died, I was scared at first but I knew that I had to go check. I was about to touch the door handle when I was touched from behind. It was Rowan, he had somehow come up behind me without a sound and said
"What are you doing up here? You were there then the next thing I knew you were gone."
"It was nothing, you can go back downstairs if you want," she said
"Not a chance, you and I are sticking together from now on." And with said that they both found their cheeks burning hot and shyly looked away from each other.
Each step towards the room in question was nerve-racking, but through sheer will, I stepped past the door only to find one of my parents belongs shattered on the ground. No matter how hard I tried to figure out what the object was, the more it didn't make sense, as to what I had found amongst the brittle but surprisingly sharp shards all along the wooden floorboards. Balancing in my hand was a rusted key with a multicoloured gem embedded inside it. While staring down and examining it Rowan walked up beside me and was trying to find out what it could open.
