Putting aside the thoughts clogging her brain, Su Lin tried to look at the problem from her point of view.
"So essentially some of the cells in my body have a bit of extra energy. These naughty ones are growing more and more in number and wreaking havoc."
"Hmm... But why is this small irregularity labeled as a terminal illness?!"
"People even willingly flush their body with harmful radiation energy to get rid of them?!"
"That is something you use to attack the enemies, it is not for treating ailments."
Su Lin racked her brain and still did not understand this world's medicine and its logic.
Maybe because she defined everything in terms of energy, the problem looked completely different in her eyes.
Slowly formulating a plan of action, Su Lin strengthened her resolve and started to work.
She grabbed the big bag from the shop and neatly organized all the herbs. She then filled the bathtub in her hotel room with scalding hot water.
With her feet first in, Su Lin gently stepped into the hot water and sat down in a cross-legged position.
"Agghh" She let out a soft moan as her body got used to the high temperature. Slowly, it started to feel exceedingly comfortable and relaxing.
Su Lin then reached for the first herb packet, sprinkled a bit of water in to make it into a paste, and then swallowed a small portion of the paste.
Just like in the hospital, she consciously focussed her attention on each individual cell of her body and how they responded to this medicinal herb.
She was basically using what was left of her soul strength to scan her body and the minute changes from the ingestion of the herbal paste.
After a few minutes, she reached for the next herb and repeated the same thing...
"So this one cleanses my digestive system and helps with the excretion. And this one improves my blood flow and keeps my organs healthier."
Analyzing the herbs one by one, Su Lin slowly went through everything she had and mentally noted down even the smallest effect.
Because they had already lost so much efficacy, the herbs were almost completely useless and only had extremely minor effects, if at all.
When she was done with the last few herbs, Su Lin got out of the tub and dried herself up.
Even this small session of research had completely tired her out. With a pensive look on her face, she flopped onto the bed.
Several permutations and combinations of the different herbs were running in her mind, and she eventually drifted off to sleep.
For someone like her, who has attained a supreme proficiency in alchemy, getting rid of the cancerous cells in her body was not really a big deal.
But she still needed the correct ingredients.
The next day, Su Lin decided to visit the herb farmers residing on the outskirts of the city. She needed fresher herbs to test some theories.
Nothing is as refreshing as a good night's sleep, followed by a freshly brewed cup of coffee. But Su Lin was throwing up like crazy and her eyes were buried in dark despondent circles.
"This is the tenth time already! Damn it!" Su Lin cursed.
If it was someone else, the cab driver would have probably dropped them off at a hospital by now and gone on his merry way.
But this was Mrs. Meng! He had to obey her orders.
"Ahhhh... She looks very sick and weak though... What to do... "
"It might be better if she faints. I can just drop her off at the hospital and place a call to Mr. Shi Meng."
"She does look like she is going to faint..."
While the cab driver was debating what to do in his mind, Su Lin quickly washed her mouth and face with a bottle of freshwater and got back into the car.
"I am good. Let's go." She commanded without leaving room for any other alternative.
Nervously, the cab driver started driving again. Just to be safe, he was driving a "teensy" bit faster than the speed limits this time around.
He really wanted to drop her off at the destination before something serious happened.
With her head rested on the car windowpane, Su Lin watched calmly as the blurry images of the tall and flashy buildings in the city passed her by.
A wave of sadness swept over her pale face, as she felt sick and all alone in this strange new world.
She had spent most parts of her previous life alone as well, lurking in the darkness, running from the dangers.
And now... even here... she was all alone.
Soon they reached the outskirts of the city and the smooth roads became slightly bumpy, making Su Lin even more uncomfortable.
"Are we almost there?" Her dull and frail voice rang out.
"Yes, madam. Just 5 more minutes."
She opened the car windows and a waft of fresh breeze instantly assaulted her nose, enveloping her tired body with a wave of warmth and pleasantness.
Her cheeks turned regained a slight rosy glow and her mood perked up as well.
"We are here, madam. This is the fresh farmland community the local herb farmers reside in. We also have the Junpang mountain range and a very beautiful waterfall nearby. Please enjoy your visit."
After politely bowing, the cab driver disappeared from that place in an instant.
