He watched the way the small amusement tilted the corners of her lips upward. "That was nothing new between me and Kofi. One of us will kill the other before it over."
"So you just want to piss him off?" For some reason she felt angry at him. She thought of leaving but didn't. She didn't even step back when Chrys walked so close by her that his legs brushed against her.
"What difference does it make, as long as he keeps him away from others and possible from your simple minded sister."
Sai clenched her fist. "My sister isn't what you think she is!" Sai hissed. "Lucy is a lot of things, she is as intelligent as most. She is just ..... different." Her face flushed red with anger. Don't you dare call her simple minded."
"Different, how?"
How, indeed? How do you explain a near adult who still have the innocence and glee of a child without the label of simplicity? Lucy is ethereal as a wood nymph. It was as if she is so sensitive to everything that she has to block out the darkness of life itself in order to survive, leaving her with only sunlight. Sai searched for words she wanted to say. "She ... doesn't see the ugliness in the world. She expects everyone to be as good and carefree as she is."
Chrys snorted as he swung a saddle down from the railing. "That's worse than simple mindedness. That's plain right stupid, and out here it will get you fucked up." He loomed over her, as Sai refused to step back in retreat. She was forced to tilt her head back to look at him. Their eye met and a strange sense of danger raced down her back. His eyes glittered under the low brim of his hat, and she saw that they were a clear, dark hazel green. He was so close to her that she could see the black specks in his irises, so close that she could smell the sweat on his skin, and feel the heat emerging from him. Her legs were brushing his and she didn't care. She felt paralyzed as she stared up at him, held motionless by a strange, frightening excitement that knotted her stomach and set her heart pounding. All her life she had associated the scent of shaving foam and cologne with men, very enlighten smells that she had thought pleasant and nothing more. Yet, right now the hot, initial smell of Chrys sweaty skin was making her weak, making her think she might have to have support just to stand.
He shouldn't be that close to her. She knew it but yet she couldn't retreat.
"Get on back to the house," he said. His lips barely moved. "You don't belong out here."
She didn't know if he meant the stable or the entire territory, but she suspected he meant the latter. She squared her shoulders and said, "Thank you again, Mr. Chrys." She left with dignity as she could summon. Had he sensed her shameful, illogical response to his closeness? He angered her and frightened her, but something about him touched a primitive part of her that she hadn't known existed, a part that she knew she must suppress.
She shaded her eyes with her hand as she emerged into the bright sunlight again, and paused when a flash of color caught her attention. To her left lounged a curvaceous young woman, with a thick mass of black hair spilling down her back. She had large dark eyes, full red lips, and she was shamelessly displaying the cleaves of her full breasts under her white off shoulder shirt. She obviously were short mid thigh skirt. The young woman arrogantly met her gaze, her dark eyes surveying Sai neatly coiled hair, starched long sleeve, high turtlenecked shirt and a blue jeans skirt.
This woman looks like someone she has seen when she first came in, she almost mistook her as Alicia's daughter. What was her name again? Ah yes, Anna. A remarkable lovely name for a woman whose own beauty was vivid as that of an overblown flower.
Since she obviously didn't work in the house, Sai assumed she might be a wife of one of the workers. She wondered where they lived. She approached the young woman with a smile trying to befriend her even though Anna's manner wasn't welcoming.
"Hello," she said."Im Sai loc...." She wondered if she could ever get used to her name being changed coz of her marriage.
The woman regarded Sai for a moment longer in silence then tossed back her long black hair.
"Im Anna."
"I saw you when i came in. I apologize for not speaking to you before now. By the way, which one of the men is your husband?
Anna laughed, a sound of deep satisfaction. "Are you stupid or what? None of them. why would i marry?"
Not married? That was confusing...unless she's living with her boyfriend. That was embarrassing, but Anna doesn't look embarrassed except gloating at Sai.
In that moment Sai knew she should just walk away before things escalate but instead she asked, "You have a boyfriend?" Damn what kind of stupid question was that. She thought.
Anna laughed again, a gloating sound that rasp." I have many boyfriends, all those men you see here are my men. They all come to me-- including your very own husband." Again with the mockerily, her dark eyes glittering with spite. "He came to me the night of your wedding! We all thought that was interesting."
Sai face darkened, She turned and walked away but it seem too late to do that. Anna seem to have humiliated Sai. She was so embarrassed that she didn't see where she was going and walked into a wall, more like fell into an arm. His hard hands grasped her shoulders to steady her, holding her soft body so close to him that her breast were against his rock solid abdomen.
It was Chrys, leading the horse across the yard. She was too distressed to realized he could easily have avoided her but instead had deliberately put himself in front of her. She backed up, not looking at him. "Im sorry" She said lifelessly.
Chrys glanced to where Anna still stood against the wall, smirking viciously, and guessed what had happened. The shock was plain on Sais white face.
He felt some sought of eage to confront the aggrieved woman in his arms. "Don't pay any attention to Anna". he said. "She's a vicious little bitch." He wanted to put his arms around her, feel the softness of her against him again. Damn, she smelled so nice and sweet. A dangerous fire ignited low in his belly, swelling his groin.
She lifted her head with a flushed face and stepped away from him."Thank you Mr. Chrys, she said firmly. "I'm quite alright".
He watched her walked away again, then went over to Anna. She straightened her red lips assuming a seductive smile. It was wasted on Chrys; Anna had been trying to get him into bed with her since he started working at the Ranch, but he wasn't interested. Anna couldn't believe any man could be unresponsive to her beauty, and Chrys had resisted her longer than any man shed ever wanted. But it was not, she thought, because he didn't want her. He was jealous of all the others who enjoyed her favors, she was certain. He was just being difficult. She didn't mind; it made him more attractive in her eyes and she was certain that sooner or later he'd come to her. His difficultness would make his surrender that much exciting.
She thrust her breast out for him, but he didn't even glance down. His cold eyes never left hers.
"What did you say to her?"
