Chapter 9 - Discovering Problems and Solutions

Early morning after the fish eating frenzy last night, Apo Isko woke up earlier than the rest of the Tribesmen.

He checked the meat inside the small hole on the cave.

The meat is still warm but not burnt. He chew a small piece and examined the taste, it was still edible and it didn't go bad. The smoke from wood chips and bamboo strips also added a unique flavor so it taste better than plain roasted meat.

While eating the meat, he contemplated and asked himself. 'The Talking Book is a Divine Treasure that can solve every problem. It has answers to all questions. I will not keep it for myself and I want all the tribesmen to reap benefit from it. Not everyone can understand what it says but if I can understand it, I just need to explain it to everyone in an easier to understand way. I need to find out what everyone needs.'

He went out to talk to the tribesmen one by one but the moment he left his hut, he saw that there's a lot of fish that wasn't eaten by the tribesmen as they were already full after they ate as many as they can. There's still more than a quarter left on their catch.

He asked everyone to make a fire and cook it immediately so it won't go bad. They can eat it later if they want. It's such a waste if it goes bad.

This is a new problem that emerged for the tribesmen, this is their first time to catch that much of fish! They usually share 1 fish for every family because they can't catch that much despite of so much effort they give when fishing.

They were only using their hands and feet to swim and catch fishes. Some used rocks to throw and hit a fish. It was a primitive and barbaric way to catch fish.

Apo Isko, asked the talking book immediately. What can we use to prevent our foods from going bad?

The Talking Book answered so many things. But Apo Isko knew nothing about it, so he realized that he asked the wrong question and he needs to be specific on what he wants.

He rephrased his question, "Is there a way to store fishes and keep the fishes we've caught edible for a long time?"

The Talking Book answered different things, but there's one that piqued his interest and that's the fish pond.

He already knew how to store meat without getting bad, but he gained another idea and that is to keep the wild beast alive. He asked the Talking Book on how to keep animals.

The Talking Book explained a lot. From Livestock Animals to Poultry Animals, and even reptiles is included. He saw advanced equipment and tools used for this, but he can't understand most of it. He just picked and filtered the most possible ways for them.

He also looked for Tools that is convenient and easy to produce.

He discovered earthen wares and the use of mud for making useful materials.

From Bricks, Jars, Pots, Molder, and etc. He also learned different ways of cooking using earthen wares, the convenience of Jars and Large Vats for storing water, the usefulness of bricks for building walls, house and other infrastructures.

The Tribesmen continued their lifestyle and they adapted with the new method of hunting and catching fish for food. They also realize that they don't need to take that much of fish as it will only go to waste if they can't finish eating it. So they were now covering the bamboo holes as soon as they caught fishes enough for the tribe.

Inang Mabailan, was considered the best in making weaved and handcrafts items. She started teaching the other women of the tribe to weave. Those who learned weaving, started trying it to different vines and durable leaves. They made different shapes and sizes of weaved products. They now reinforced the big dry leaves that they used as roof for their shelters with weaved grasses and leaves. From this idea, some of them made walls using weaved bamboos. There were also some stupid folks who tried using sturdy tree branches for weaving, they end up making lumbers as they can't bend or weave it. They don't know any use for the lumbers aside from making fire out of it so they stored it for the meantime.

There's also those Men who gathered rocks daily and makes different shapes and rock-blades with the guidance of Apo Tasyo.

The 10 capable men of the tribe continued hunting wild beast. But they were only catching small preys and large herbivore wild beast at the moment. They were still waiting for Apo Isko's new method on dealing with the other wild beasts which is more agile, wild, and stronger.

Apo Isko, is not leaving his hut except for meal time. He's engrossed in discovering the problems and its solutions. Almost a month passed when he realized that there's always a new problem that will arise every day, he just need to solve it one at a time.

He decided to stop inquiring for solutions to the other problems, he kept the Talking Book and hid it again inside his hut. He muttered inside.

"I'll start trying new things tomorrow! I'll rest for today, tomorrow is another day!"
