The two love birds were now walking hand in hand on the other side of the hospital's huge park. Alex had taken a different path this time and if they thought the side with the spring flowers were beautiful, this side was even more mesmerizing. The path was lined with lights and beyond the fairy lights were more flowers and seating areas.
"The person who designed this park deserves an award," Zunnie muttered.
'Wait till you see what I've done for you; if you think this person deserves an award, then what about me?' Alex pondered as he walked beside her, trying to match her short strides with his long legs.
Further into the park was a brightly lit water fountain. The lights changed color every few seconds.
"Isn't this pretty?" Zunnie asked enthusiastically as she let go of his hand then walked toward the fountain and stuck her hand beneath the spouting waterfall.
"Mhm, it's beautiful." He replied a bit distracted.
The entire time they were walking, Alex was thinking about how he should tell her. Even though she seemed confident and strong, he still wanted to be careful. He was about to follow her to the fountain when he saw a small garden behind the fountain. There was a bench in the center of the flower beds, so he called out to her and took her that way instead.
When they sat down Alex got straight to the point.
"We found out who caused the accident. A security guard who works for my company drove the car on that day. Someone paid for his daughter's college and had him drive the car on the day of the accident. However, he did not know I would be with you on that day. You were supposed to be the only one in the car according to what he said. The person he described, however, does not exist. We think that it was a woman who disguised herself as a man. He said his voice sounded strange whenever the person contacted him."
Alex waited a few moments before he spoke again.
"Honey, I'm so sorry I failed to protect you. Even though I installed cameras on your vehicle, I had no idea someone had been following you. I have failed you as your husband. I don't think I have the right to stay beside you if I can't protect you."
His tone was so cast down Zunnie clasped his muscular arm as she listened quietly.
"So, who paid him? Was it Natalia? She came to see me just before you walked in. Did you meet her on your way to my room?" Alex could hear the emotionlessness in her voice.
"No, I did not meet Talia on my way up. It was a woman called Tami Rougé. Carson said she went to the same high school you both did. Do you know her?"
"What? Do you mean Tami? Tami Rougé was the one behind our accident?" Zunnie could not believe what Alex had said. She let go of his hand and began pacing in front of him.
"Yeah, Tami Rougé; I believe that's what Carson called her. Plus, all the information we have points to her."
"But why? I've never done anything to her… or have I? No, I have not! Why the fuck would she want to kill me?"
Alex noticed the change in her expression and he could see she was pissed off.
He wanted to reply to her but the lump that had formed in his throat was making it difficult to speak. He did not want to be the one to tell her the details, so he decided to wait until it was the right time.
Alex could not throw Carson under the bus and reveal his secret. He wanted Carson to confess to Zunnie on his own. The conversation they had at Club Zen was a deep one. He had agreed to wait and have him tell her of the reason she was a target. Carson would be the one to tell her. He owed that to him after all he had done to help him and Zunnie.
He combed his hand through his hair, troubled by the thought of Carson confessing to his wife.
'Am I foolish? To agree to have another man reveal his feelings to my wife; this must mean I'm insane right?'
Even though he trusted Zunnie, love was a weird emotion. If he said he was not a bit worried he would be lying. Watching her pace angrily before him, he sighed inside. He got up from the bench and pulled her toward him.
"Now that we know, let's be sure to teach that bitch a lesson. She has been hiding since the accident and no-one can find her. We have people following her close friends in case she contacts them. As for the reason why she did it, I'm not the one who can tell you. He will tell you when he's ready."
Zunnie chortled loudly astounding Alex. He could feel her clenched fist against his back. He was about to comfort her but before he could utter a word she spoke;
"She tried to kill me and now the coward is hiding. I will dig her up wherever she's buried. Whatever reason she may have is not enough to save her. Anyone who tries to kill to satisfy their emotions is a coward."
"Don't worry dear, we will definitely find her," Alex reassured her and escorted her back to their hospital room.
