Chapter 12 - Big Brother Is Worrying

Eyan Bai understood his baby sister hated being in the spotlight. He also knew that when it was time for Zunnie Bai to step out and show up at important events hosted by their company, she wouldn't hesitate to make an appearance. Every person who laid eyes on Zunnie at any of the Bai's events was invariably in awe of her beauty. Zunnie Bai was like a rare jewel. One to be admired behind a glass case—poised, intelligent, and exceptionally gorgeous. While she appeared respectful, Zunnie could be quite childish when surrounded by friends or family.

He enjoyed flaunting his baby sister at these events, even if she would later pout and complain to him about it. He couldn't help it. He was immensely proud of the woman she had become and always made sure to remind her that their mom would have been proud too.

The passing of their mom had deeply impacted eight-year-old Zunnie, leaving her traumatized. The loss was particularly difficult for her, given her profound adoration for their mother. Zunnie had cried for an entire week and resisted eating, leading to malnourishment and a two-month hospitalization.

Under the care of dedicated nurses and doctors, along with the love from Eyan and their dad, Zunnie finally started to embrace a semblance of normalcy. Her bright smile returned, and she began eating like a little pig. Everyone rejoiced in her recovery and couldn't help but spoil her—whatever Zunnie wanted, Zunnie got.

As Eyan sat behind the desk in his office, swamped with work, his mind drifted back to their childhood days. He couldn't help but wonder if she was eating well and doing okay; sometimes, she forgot to eat when she was busy.

He had been preoccupied planning one of the largest entertainment galas hosted by Bai Entertainment. The gala aimed to showcase the faces of their company, featuring auctions for various items such as networking dates, jewelry, hotel stays, and other luxurious items. The proceeds would be donated to the Bai Children's Hospital. Over the years, the company had organized charity events, resulting in billions of dollars being donated to the hospital.

The idea to build a children's hospital came to fruition after Zunnie fell ill at the age of eight, had been suggested by their father. By the time Zunnie turned fifteen, the hospital was ready for opening. Her dad dedicated the hospital to her as a birthday gift that year, and she currently serves as the director of the hospital.

Lost in thought about his sister, Eyan dialed her number.

Zunnie walked into her apartment after having dinner with Sanua, looking visibly exhausted as she climbed the stairs to her bedroom. Given that tomorrow happened to be her day off, all she wanted was to stay home and rest. Fearful that she might fall asleep before taking a shower, she hurriedly took one and then settled into bed.

While scrolling through Facebook, her phone rang.

"Zunnie's counseling hotline; how can I help?" She answered with a hint of amusement in her voice.

"Sorry, wrong number. I'm not trying to let you ruin my night with your skepticism," he said jokingly.

"You're worrying about me again, Eyan. I'm doing fine, don't worry. Okay?"

"So, you're implying that your brother only calls you when he's worried about you; how mean."

"Not entirely, but when you and Dad call me twice in one day… then yeah."

"Haha… I surrender."

He knew Zunnie was adept at analyzing them. There was no way he could hide his worry from her. They were nervous, knowing that the gala would be held in one week, and she would not be able to escape the media. Zunnie always ended up in the media whenever she appeared at an event. Even if she tried to convince Eyan and their father that she was fine now, they remained overprotective.

Two years ago, she made a few headlines after Bai Entertainment's thirtieth gala. A group of fans began stalking her, which had terrified her. Fortunately, Eyan had gotten it under control before it escalated, and the individuals involved were sent to jail.

"I have both you and Papa Bai to protect me," she said, understanding his wariness.

"You got that right!"

"Do you know Dad called me earlier, asking me about the gala? Saying it's okay if I don't want to attend. But you know, I will certainly be there, its a Bai's duty to represent at these things. Sanua will be there as well. Plus, I'm not a child anymore; you guys should stop pampering me." She sounded confident.

Eyan was convinced and agreed with her. He was happy she would be attending the gala. It seemed like a great idea since he could use her for one of the auction items. After catching up with his baby sister, Eyan left the office and went home to his beautiful girlfriend.
