Chapter 4 - She Had No Idea

The cool morning breeze awakened Zunnie's senses when she inhaled a big gulp of fresh air. She bit down on her bottom lip and looked up at the brightly lit morning sky. She and Sanua had plans to go out tonight and Zunnie was particularly happy they were meeting up. They had not seen each other for three weeks now and Zunnie missed her wittiness.

"Today is going to be a great day!" She exclaimed, reassuring herself that nothing bad would happen at the club with Sanua.

Sanua was lovely friend. However, when she gets annoyed there's not telling who will be her victim. One occasion Sanua punched a drunk guy who insulted Zunnie because she refused to have a drink with him. Luckily the security came to help them before things got out of hand. Remembering that one incident out of the many they had experienced, Zunnie chuckled heartily. Nonetheless, she loved her friend.

Walking toward the complex housing her condo, sweat glistening all over her bare skin. Her twenty minute run rejuvenated her. It felt good to be energized on her day off and she was happy.

She inwardly repeated her plans before heading out later in the evening as she made her way back. One was to clean the fish tank she received for her eighth birthday from her mom. The other thing was to tidy up her place. Zunnie had a house cleaner who came once a week at the request of her dad, but she still enjoyed doing house chores.

Her dad was overprotective at times and after her mom passed away, he was constantly doing unnecessary things. On her twenty-fourth birthday, he threw her a surprise party and invited only boys. If it had not been for her older brother who became furious and invited a few of her friends, he would have succeeded in ruining her special day.

On another occasion, he invited her out to lunch and never showed up. Instead, he arranged a blind date for her with a boy who had gone to her high school. Jang Zhi had teased her constantly at school and she hated him. Even though he seemed more mature and handsome, she couldn't help but be mad at her dad.

She had been shocked to see Jang Zhi walk in and introduce himself like he was an old friend of hers. As soon as he sat down across from her, she was even more livid. She hurriedly got up, said goodbye and left. On her way back to her office she called her dad. Mr. Bai his daughter calling and knew he would be scolded. He ignored her call and sent her a message saying he was busy and would call later to which he never did.

Seeing that he was lying to her, Zunnie had called her big brother Eyan Bai to complain to him. Eyan burst out laughing after he heard what had happened. He didn't seem surprised because his dad always found ways to upset Zunnie. Still, his plans of constantly trying to marry off his only daughter were futile.

After that call, Zunnie remembered Eyan saying to her that he would talk to their father. She was certain that Eyan would call their father and give him and earful.

Thinking now about the problems her dad caused for her, Zunnie wondered if her dad had replied to Eyan's call that day. Even though these events happened a while back, she couldn't help but be cautious when her dad invited her out or made plans on her behalf.

Lost in her thoughts about her dad, Zunnie walked into the apartment unaware that someone was staring at her back from their bedroom.

"Mr. Zi?" Secretary Zhang repeated a third time before he heard a reply.

"Mhm, yes; continue," Alex replied his gaze still fixated on the spot where he saw the back of the girl who was no longer there.

He was on the phone with his secretary speaking about a dinner meeting he had later today with two investors from a construction company. The moment Alex answered the phone, he hopped out of bed and walked towards the glass wall a few feet from the front of the bed. He opened the curtains blocking the glass letting the rays of sunlight to peak through. The sun slapped his face gently, waking him up.

Holding the phone to his ear, he looked down only to see the back of a woman with long red-brown hair pulled back into a high ponytail walking into the building. She wore a rose-pink Nike jacket, black shorts paired with a set of white and rose-pink running shoes. She had on a pair of earphones as she walked in. Her walk was confident yet graceful for someone who just came from jogging.

Alex had no idea what was happening, but he had been mesmerized by the view of her back that he had spaced out. After he got off the phone with Secretary Zhang, he took shower then drove to the office to sign documents that needed his signature.
