Chapter 3 - The Apocalypse

Mark started reading,

"Ever since the apocalypse, ever since the Great Hands tore the heavens apart, the world began to change. Animals mutated and became bigger and more powerful. More species began to occupy the wild. Tigers breathing fire or snakes flying or even giant fishes.

The reason? The fragments of the sky.

When the fragments of the sky fell down from above, they turned to dust and were inhaled by everyone, some even inhaled a huge chunk of fragments, instantly blowing them up. Millions died while some survived and obtained unimaginable power. They called themselves true warriors, mages, cultivators. practitioners of the divine.

After months of studying, they obtained an answer. The fragments were a type of energy that was invisible to the naked eye, but because of the Great Hands, it cracked and fell to the world, filling it with Mana.

They called the dust from the fragments Mana, which they inferred can be absorbed and used as powers of men.

That was the start of war. War between men. But that didn't last long.

The humans were so busy trying to hoard more of these warriors, mages, cultivators, and practitioners of the divine that they forgot the terror of why this power was here in the first place.

The war lasted for 450 years. The humans were complacent of their power, and this crucial moment was when the monsters attacked. Normal beasts, Berserked Beasts, Strong Beasts, Magical Beasts, Intelligent Beasts, and even Legendary Beasts. These beasts were exactly what the old warned us from. The ancient hieroglyphs depicting various mythical beasts swarmed the world and attacked every human civilization.

The humans were too complacent that they forgot the dangers.

But this was not the end of humanity. With great destruction comes great heroes.

Multiple heroes, geniuses, who were able to contest even the strongest of the legends.

And after 1800 years of war between Mankind and Beasts, there came peace.

The leaders of the beasts, the legends, disappeared and came no more. The humans thought themselves as the one who were the victors, and they once again waged wars against each other.

2800 years after the apocalypse, the beasts swarmed against the humans once more, albeit not as fierce as before.

The humans, who were already divided, continued to lose against the beasts. But one day, a hero of that era, came to a city, and taught everyone how to become strong. The humans were once again reminded that their selfishness brought destruction unto their own kingdoms. Thus the 2nd Information Revolution.

Schools sprung up and taught everybody the path to ultimate strength.

The Path of the Warriors, The Path of the Mages, The Path of the Cultivators, The Path of the Divine.

Four Great Paths to ultimate strength led the front line to suppress these hideous beasts.

And as the knowledge of the Ultimate gets passed from one person to another, let their be some one to one day lead us to salvation."

Mark finished the book. It was a thin book, with pictures all over it. He doesn't know what type of book this is because he doesn't remember anything.

A year ago, Mark woke up in a corner near the plaza in City B6. Hungry, confused, and scared. He walked and walked until he fell asleep. He woke up again the next day on a dark alley with 3 men at the side playing with cards.

Mark looked up and saw these people, he reached out to them slowly and said in an almost inaudible tone,"Food... Food... Food..."

One man looked at Mark and looked back at his friends.

"Hey, look at this poor fella. Crying for food. Hahaha, go back to your mama! Your handsome face won't do anything here!"

The other two also looked at Mark and felt jealous because of his face. One of them spit at his face and the other one stood up, held Mark on his shoulders, and punched his face.

"I hate people with faces like you! Always feeling arrogant and steps on everybody else. Good looks doesn't mean go--"

And as the men were watching while one guy beats the sh8 out of Mark, a strong shock wave pulsed out of Mark, pushing the guy punching him and the guys watching him off their chairs.

"Ah!"

Mark shouted while holding his head in pain.

The men immediately rushed out of the alley in fear and dread. One even tripping on his way out.

"Don't leave me here!" The guy who tripped shouted.

And as Mark continued to howl and shout in pain, memories gushed into his head, blurred and vague memories, memories about essential things. And he collapsed again, then a few hours later he woke up.

"Damn, I'm hungry as hell, no food, no shelter, no money, how can I live?" The first few memories he received were memories of common things and concepts like money, food, and shelter. He knew he had to have these in order to live.

He got up and walked out of the alley, he walked for hours until a tall man came by and said to him," Want money?"

Mark woke up from his tiredness from walking and found a guy in front of him staring at him.

"Will... will you give me money?" Mark asked out timidly, although some part of him tells him that this man won't give money unless he can do something for him.

"What? No! I'm opening a store, want to work for me?" The man said.

Mark's eyes lit up and a thousand thoughts has gone through his mind.

'This will be my chance to earn money and finally achieve my goal!'

What goal could it be? Simple, a place to live, and some food to eat.

"Yes! Yes, I want to work for you!" Mark immediately shouted.

"Hahaha, well then, follow me!" The guy said.

Mark followed him as the guy continues to go around, finding beggars to hire as staff for his new store.

The guy introduced himself,"Call me boss from now on." and proceeded to go on his way. Mark immediately followed the man while the others also followed.

They arrived at a general store, Mark was assigned to being the Cashier with a salary of 145 coppers per day. Mark was certainly thankful to this man for offering him a job. And after 1 year, Mark has already achieved his goals of shelter, food, and money.

Mark fell asleep.

The cold and dark night went past and a new day welcomed Mark.

But he suddenly heard something from the door.
