Chapter 1 - December 24: The lonely Christmas eve (2.30 p.m.)

The street was filled with the merry sound of Christmas cheer but I was not so happy. I left my office after a gruelling three days of just living there to finish a project alone and returned to my apartment to find that my boyfriend, my high school sweetheart, my first and only lover, broke up with me and moved out with almost the furniture. So this is what that cowardly thief meant when I spoke to him on the phone before I started my overtime and he'd told me to take my time and there'd be a surprise for me at home. A note saying "Cecilia, you can keep the apartment and I'll take the furniture, it's a fair way to split after our 7 years together - all the best, Marc".. what do you mean a fair split and I can keep the apartment? It's mine in the first place, I'd received it from my mother and all that furniture were pieces I'd bought or were already here. Looking around, you were kind enough to leave your beat-up leather recliner though, that I'd always hated and the only piece of furniture you'd actually bought and my mattress which I will only assume you had trouble getting out because of its size. I should call the police about this, what do you mean an officer won't be with me until 7 p.m.?

I seriously can't believe the nerve of the man, first he moves in unexpectedly after high school so we can still see each other everyday while he's at university and I went to work. Now, he leaves with no warning. Thinking back on it, he probably did that to save on rent money and have a personal maid. I bet there was something going on with him and that girl who called last month.

Sigh~ It's still early so maybe I should waste a few hours and head to the nearby museum. The sword exhibit should still be available and a family heirloom is on display there.

According to family lore, Cecilia Faber, my 6th great grandmother and my namesake was a great beauty, a pricess in exile, who fought a shark and made it her personal transport to get to shore after her boat capsized during a storm. Once ashore found work as a school teacher and married a blacksmith who crafted that sword as a wedding gift, something about he'll be there to protect her and if he wasn't she'd still have a part of him to protect herself. Sadly her husband died young and she had to wield that sword to protect herself and her child. She became a formidable warrior and all subsequent daughters of her line had to learn sword arts and other forms of self defence.
