Chapter 4 - Chapter 2

In the small town that I live in I have made myself acquainted with quite a few people. There is only one person that I have completely connected with and that is my best friend Katherine, she knows everything about me and my past. Trust me it was never my intention to tell her anything but after the first few months of being friends she asked if she could night due to a hurricane like storm that was happening outside and that night I had the worst nightmare about Connor. She charged into my room and attempted to shake me awake but I ended up punching her straight in the jaw.

Of course after that she demanded that I tell her what was going on with me, so I did. After that we have been attached by the hip. She has healed parts of my soul that I thought had been long dead.

A knock at my door throws off my train of thought and forces me to get out of bed. Maybe Katherine is early for our lunch date, but the shadow that is cast over my front door resembles someone who is of a male stature, broad shoulders, looks to be 5'6''. I quickly go into the jacket closet and popped out the panel that I had reconstructed to fit my 9mm Pistol. After I left Connor and fled to my parents, my dad made it his mission to teach me how to protect myself. He this by teaching me how to shoot a variety of guns and assisted me with paying for self defense classes.

I grabbed my pistol and place it between my PJ pants band and my hip. I grab the handle to the front door, take a deep breath, and plaster a smile on my face. When I open the door I find a very attractive specimen, with a caramel tan, black hair, electric blue eyes, and a smile that could knock any woman to her knees.

"Hello, can I help you?" I ask politely.

"Yes, I surely hope that you can. I was wondering if you had issues with wolves invading your property?" His voice was deep, I like it.... Wait no I don't... Where did that thought come from?

"No I haven't, I thought red wolves were seen to be almost extinct? Why would I have an issue with and endured species?" I asked.

"How long have been residing on this land?" He asked

"6 months" I answer

"Do you live alone? Where did you move form? Why did you move out of town?" It was like he was playing a speed round of 20 questions.

"That is none of your business, now I have answered your question and I have not seen any wolves. So if that was the reason that you are here then it is time for you to leave." I say, I knew that I sounded vicious but who does he think he is.

"Um... well... we have just been getting reports of increased wolf activity. Okay well thank you for your time." He quickly jumped off my porch and hustled into his car. I couldn't help but feel like there was something very off about him. I shut my door and place my pistol back in its cubby.

I had about an hour before Katherine would be here, so I hop into the shower and begin to get ready.

"CAMILLA!!!!!!" I hear Katherine sing my name from my living room. She is the only person who has a key to my house. "You were supposed to be ready 15 minutes ago! Move that ass slow poke!"

I make my way down the stairs to see Katherine in a forest green blouse and black skinny jeans. I swear that this girl can rock just about any outfit. "I don't know who you are talking to, but i know that you are not talking to me." Katherine and I's relationship is all about fun and making sure that we are always keeping each other on our toes.

"Oh bitch I am most definitely talking to your slow ass." She laughs.

"Okay well then I guess I should most definitely get moving." I say dryly

"Damn it! What did I tell you about just giving in?! it is no fun when you just give in."

"I know." I laugh

We head out to The Nebula Cafe, the drive is relatively short due to me living right outside of town. We make it there and grab a booth next to the window. We order our drinks and food, leaving us to make conversation. We have a rule that no cell phones are allowed at the table unless it is work or an emergency. The man that had showed up on my front door popped into my head. "Hey did a man stop my your house today, asking about wolves invading your property?"

"Wolves? No no one showed up to my house. Why do you ask?"

"Well this guy stopped by my house asking me that and I thought that it was weird, especially because he kept asking me questions about how long I have been living there and a bunch of personal questions. You know told him off, but think that i was a little too hard on him because I had him just about running to his car."

"Well I don't think that that it is anything that you need to worry about, love." I noticed that she shifted in her seat and every since we have been friends the only time she does that is when she is uncomfortable or she is hiding something. I figured that I would just let if go and that if it were important that she would tell me when she is ready.

That night I sat out on my porch and just watched and listened to the rain. I was just about to head back inside to go to bed until I see something moving along the tree line, I move to the edge of the porch to get a closer look, the figure makes it's way out of the shadows and it is a wolf. I back up slowly until my back hit the door and I hurry inside before it tries to make me his next meal.
