That name was all too familiar to me. but it couldn't have been him, could it?
"Marcus "I said realising how my tone had frightened her before so I spoke softly and quietly
"yes him."she was streaming with tears. all I wanted to do was take all her pain away and hold her but I knew she was too frightened and hysteric for me to be able to.
"what did he do to you?" i said in a kind concerned voice concentrating on holding my anger in.
"please. I I don't want to talk about it not now at least." the pain in her voice was very strong as she tried to compose herself.
"It's fine you don't have to tell me yet if your not ready too." i blurted, using all the compassion I had in my voice. my anger boiled inside of me as I lingered in disbelieve as to what/who she was talking about. I hoped he was dead.
turns out my nightmare was a reality.
"So what happened after they found you?" I converted the conversation filling the awkward silence.
"the kind women took me in as her own. raised me but when i turned around 5 they came for me." she paused. the paused in her words created tension within me. "she protected me but she didn't make it. the last thing she gave me was a letter for me to read one day, when I'm ready she said, and then she told me to run. run far away and hide from the bad people." my heart throbbed. I felt helpless that I couldn't do anything that I didn't know.
"what happened after that. where did you go?" I asked Impatiently
"I was alone for a while, a wanderer with only 2 things. when I finally read the letter I was about 8-9. that's when I went looking for you and tris or any of my family I could find. but when i started looking the bad people started hunting again. that's when he found me." hearing her name momentarily stopped my heart. this wound that I thought had just healed was ripped wide open again.
"four? where is tris?"
my heart sank even lower as my face gave away the awnser.
" what happened?" she said her voice was kind and soft just like her mother's.
"she died a long time ago protecting everyone here from getting brain washed and treated like lab rats.she was an amazing person. I..." my voice trembled as her memory brought tears to my eyes. I tried to hide them but it was pointless. suddenly a warmth touched my fac.e as her hand touched my cheek, her warmth comforting as her soft touch soothed. I looked up to see her face and saw the tris that's inside her. but her surprisingly bright brown eyes gleamed with love and sorrow.
"It's ok. I know." something about her sympathetic smile made me believe that she knew her, had met her. she wrapped her arms around me and I her. her warm embrace soothing any pain, the lost hope long gone, come back as if it were by magic, just by having this girl, my own flesh and blood in my arms I seemed to feel stronger and more at peace than I had in years.
