In the stairwell of the Leng Group Building, Gu Xiaonan's high-heeled shoes were clicking against the floor. She was stomping around on the marble steps as she waited for the man to give her a satisfactory answer. However, unfortunately, the news that she got was anything but good.
"Hmph!" Gu Xiaonan kicked at of the steps, clearly frustrated.
As she looked down at her small, high-heeled shoes, she saw that they were scuffed in places and looked worn. Gu Xiaonan did not like the tattered look of those shoes, as she felt like it was almost a metaphor of her life… A bitter past was hidden underneath her glorious appearance.
Meanwhile, An Qi was dragging Shi Zhiwen to the fourth floor. "Don't you know that Mr. Sheng is Boss Leng's assistant? If you upset him, our whole department would suffer for it! Even worse, it may affect Hairui! Haven't you thought about such ramifications?"
An Qi was scolding Shi Zhiwen and had a displeased look on her face. After the accident, she felt closer to Shi Zhiwen. Hence, she did not hold back when she was talking to him now.
"Why are you so agitated? You make it seem like your family owns Hairui..." Little did Shi Zhiwen know… He was right. Her family really did own Hairui...
An Qi was quick to rebuke him, "How can you say that? Anyway, no matter who Hairui belongs to, our duty is to handle the goods between the Leng Group and Hairui to the best of our abilities. It's really a matter of principle!"
After hearing her words, Shi Zhiwen hung his head down and surprisingly, did not retort. This made An Qi wonder for a moment whether the man had just saved her.
In fact, if the situation wasn't so serious at that time, An Qi really would have wanted Shi Zhiwen to re-enact the scene where he came flying down. She couldn't place her finger on what it was exactly, but she felt as if something was off about the whole situation.
Especially after seeing the legendary Leng Yuchen again, An Qi was more than a little shocked. This explained why her attitude towards Shi Zhiwen had become quite impatient.
When she knocked on Auntie Sun's door, then entered Auntie Sun's office, she sat down without saying a word. Instantly, Auntie Sun cornered Shi Zhiwen and began to speak.
"Well, you two are back at last! I just got the news. I heard that something had happened in the samples area. Are you both okay?" Although Auntie Sun was asking about both of their welfares, she remained focused on Shi Zhiwen as her hands kept wandering around his body, seemingly out of concern. Her hands especially lingered longer when they came across his protruding muscles.
"How would we possibly be okay? An Qi was almost crushed!" Shi Zhiwen answered, clearly still upset.
"Really?" Auntie Sun's eyes bulged when she heard this.
Although her exaggerated expression was one of complete shock, her hand refused to leave Shi Zhiwen's chest. She just looked to An Qi and asked her with fake concern, "So, did you get hurt?"
An Qi knew that Auntie Sun was not concerned about her at all. After all, Shi Zhiwen was the only one on her mind at the moment.
At this moment, An Qi's eyes crinkled as she broke into a secret smile. She then crossed her arms over her chest and gave Shi Zhiwen a look that said that she was just going to sit back and enjoy the show.
At last, Shi Zhiwen could no longer take Auntie Sun's antics, so he quickly escaped her searching hands and went to sit down next to An Qi. Auntie Sun smacked her lips in disappointment, then looked at the sample that was in Shi Zhiwen's hand.
She then said, "Oh, you've gotten it back, even after such a crazy thing happened! I'm impressed!" Auntie Sun exclaimed, while grabbing the sample carelessly.
This made An Qi nervous, so she quickly asked anxiously, "Auntie Sun, what happened downstairs will not have an impact on Hairui, right?"
"Don't worry, the Leng Group doesn't care about us part-timers at all..." Auntie Sun replied, clearly unconcerned.
At that moment, the phone that was hidden among Auntie Sun's snack pile suddenly rang. Auntie Sun dug around her desk for a long time before she finally found the phone.
Her expression became quite serious when she answered the phone and heard what the other party said. "Yes, yes... This is a great thing. You can rest assured that I will convey this message carefully," she responded over the phone.
As she hung up the phone, Auntie Sun was grinning strangely, which caused An Qi's and Shi Zhiwen's jaws to drop in shock. After putting down the phone, Auntie Sun remained smiling.
She then said, "You two are so lucky, as you've just worked here for two days and the Leng Group is already canceling their part-timer schemes! We are all full-time timers now!"
When Auntie Sun finished sharing the good news, she began to play her square dance music playlist happily, oblivious of the other two's stunned expressions.
"The vast horizon is my love..."
As she listened to the deafening music, An Qi felt like her brain was about to explode. The image of Leng Yuchen's back kept flashing in her mind, and she could not get rid of it, no matter how hard she tried.
She had to wonder… Is it just because he is Leng Jin's brother?
After racking her brains, the only person that An Qi could think of who was connected with her and Leng Yuchen was Leng Jin.
Leng Jin had saved An Qi when she was a child, and now, she was working at his brother's company. Moreover, she had even become a full-timer at the Leng Group. It was a small world indeed...
Thinking back, she'd only chosen this company because of Hairui. So many people were doing everything they could, but were still unable to get a position in the Leng Group, yet she'd unexpected managed to nab a position. She seemed to be really fortunate.
Meanwhile, at this moment, on the top floor and away from An Qi's view, Leng Yuchen was almost bored to death. When he'd passed by An Qi earlier, he'd wanted to reveal his identity to her and hold her tightly in his arms. He wanted to do all of these things and ensure that An Qi would not be hurt anymore.
But, when he thought about that other shadow in the darkness that was constantly trying to harm An Qi, he had to calm himself down and force himself to wait quietly. He had to draw the other side out before he could deliver a lethal blow!
"Sheng Jie, did you get anything from An Qi's memory of Shi Zhiwen?" Leng Yuchen turned around and asked Sheng Jie, who had just entered the office.
"I didn't… But, it turns out that her love rival is her old friend and now nominal sister. Since this woman has already betrayed An Qi once, it's possible that she'd betray her again. I think that we should focus on this angle and look for more clues," Sheng Jie suggested.
The key point that Sheng Jie had grasped was right in line with Leng Yuchen's viewpoint of the matter as well. However, Sheng Jie's use of the term "love rival" made Leng Yuchen a little uncomfortable.
Unbeknownst to Sheng Jie, Leng Yuchen already viewed An Qi as his woman, even if just subconsciously. So, the fact that she would regard any other woman as being a "love rival" seemed preposterous to him. After all, the possibility of the existence of other women being in Leng Yuchen's heart was absolutely zero!
