What?
Part-timer?
Before being let into the Leng Group's building, An Qi was forced to change into a fluorescent striped vest with the word 'Part-timer' printed on it. This made her stick out like a sore thumb among the other white-collared workers.
Leng Yuchen stood among the crowd on the second floor, while the employees who had just arrived at the company avoided him, similar to how the small fish in the sea avoided meeting the sharks.
"Am I hallucinating? Boss Leng has never appeared below the 30th floor before!" an employee wondered aloud.
"Yeah, it is strange! After confirming that it was him, I was so frightened that I almost spit my breakfast out!" another employee commented.
The two employees staggered into the office and began to share the news of the boss' sighting with each other as soon as they came in. This information soon spread at the speed of light. Suddenly, the news had spread via text message to every corner of the Leng Group.
An Qi got into the elevator, not knowing anything spectacular was happening. Several men, who were also in the elevator, were attracted to An Qi the moment they saw her. They stood behind her in the cramped elevator and stared at An Qi.
They did not know that, in the near future, the Leng Group would face an unprecedented change, and that this lady would be at its center, along with the help of Leng Yuchen…
"Hello, I…I'm An Qi. I'm here to report for work." While standing in front of the innermost office on the fourth floor, An Qi knocked cautiously on the door, her hands trembling.
An impatient voice rang out from the inside, "Come in!"
An Qi slowly pushed open the squeaky door and peeped inside the office. An Qi couldn't really be blamed for such cautiousness. After all, ever since she'd gotten off the elevator, the entire fourth floor had instantly felt like a Thai horror film.
The sign was hanging upside down in an eye-catching fashion. A loose screw caused the sign to sway to and fro. Also, the entire corridor was dark and long, and at least in An Qi's mind, must be filled with myriad unknown dangers.
What made An Qi the most nervous was the incandescent lamp that was hanging down from the corridor's ceiling. It was flickering continuously, and was clearly on the verge of shorting out completely.
Should I turn around and run?
An Qi's first reaction was to return to the elevator, then run! After all, she had to wonder how could such a old-fashioned scene could appear in the Leng Group, whose lobby was decorated so modernly and fashionably.
Also, when people had gotten off on the second and third floors previously, An Qi clearly saw that those floors were normal offices. There was nothing as weird as this!
However, when An Qi tried to open the doors to the elevator, she found that the elevator had already risen to the 8th floor! Seeing this, An Qi sniffed and tried to calm herself down. As long as she didn't cross the suspicious corridor, she should be safe as she waited for the elevator to return.
However, An Qi had underestimated the strangeness of the 4th floor. As she drooped her head and stared at the light that was emanating from her fluorescent vest, a terrible scream came from the stairwell that was next to the elevator.
Plop
Then, the sign that was hanging behind her fell to the ground!
"Oh my god! Ghosts!" An Qi yelled as she ran towards the end of the corridor in a flash. Her fluorescent vest was shining brilliantly under the flickering lights.
"Come in, what are you dawdling about for?" As soon as An Qi screeched to a stop, Auntie Sun, who was in charge of the 4th floor, heard the noises. She thought that a nice fat boy would be assigned here, but it turned out that it was a pretty little girl instead!
She found this hard to accept, as she herself was going through menopause and weighed more than 180 pounds! Besides, she was told to never show any mercy to the newcomers.
At the moment, all An Qi could think about was that it was a comfort to hear a creature with a voice talk to her! "Hello, I'm An Qi," she said.
An Qi walked towards Auntie Sun's desk slowly. She then placed her newly assigned work card down lightly for Auntie Sun to look at it.
In fact, it would be more appropriate to describe Auntie Sun's desk area as her snack distribution area instead. Looking around it, one could clearly see that there was little space for writing or working.
Instead, it was riddled with a lot of old food wrappers, used clothes, and dirty socks. To a stranger, they might've thought that this was a cheap rental place that Auntie Sun was camping out in for the time being!
An Qi's expression was one of helplessness, while the corners of her mouth were still tipped upward with respect. She kept her eyes fixed on Auntie Sun.
Auntie Sun glanced at the work card, then asked An Qi lazily, "Your name is An Qi?"
An Qi nodded. However, she was grumbling to herself in her heart...
Why is it that every person I've met in the Leng Group are such strange beings?
"I heard that you studied abroad?" Auntie Sun casually left the work card on the table, and soon, it was submerged within a pile of half-eaten snacks.
An Qi rolled her eyes. This was the very first time that she had no cravings for snacks after she'd given birth to An Yufei.
An Qi's face remained composed as she replied, "Yes, I lived in Paris for a while."
"Wow, Europe! That place is not cheap!" Auntie Sun exclaimed, while she filled her mouth with an unknown cuisine. "But, no matter who you were and what you did before, now that you've arrived here, you'll have to work hard and not complain. Do you understand?"
Oh, just shut up, old crow! On the surface, An Qi's head was nodding, but inside, she was laughing at and mocking the old lady before her.
Oblivious to An Qi's inner thoughts, Auntie Sun seemed very satisfied with An Qi's outer performance. She gulped down a few mouthfuls of coke, then began to explain to An Qi her specific tasks.
Half an hour later, as she left Auntie Sun's office, An Qi's head drooped. She was so tired, she wasn't even afraid of the flickering lights anymore.
When she was walking through the corridor, she called An Yufei to check in with her. She also told her daughter to remind the kitchen to prepare a plate of vegetables for her dinner tonight.
