Chapter 8 - Serves You Right

When the doorbell rang, Dong Manman threw aside the piece of chiffon that she had been working on with the sewing machine, then skipped over to open the door. Instantly, the piece of white chiffon opened up behind her. It was white and pure, like the image of An Qi in her heart.

"Qiqi, Yufei! Why did you take so long to arrive? I was about call you! How much did it cost to get here? I was worried that the taxi was making a detour in order to charge you extra!"

"We got a free ride!" An Qi said. "Anyway, I was born and bred in this city, so I know how to handle myself, okay?"

If An Qi's hands had not been occupied with her heavy suitcase, she would have playfully flicked Dong Manman's forehead with her fingers. "Please, could you not disgrace me in front of Yufei? Otherwise, I will lose face in front of my own child!"

An Yufei could tell that An Qi was only teasing her and feigning anger. In fact, even without Dong Manman's reminder, An Qi knew that she was not very suitable to be a mother.

In fact, there was no elder in this world who Yufei thought was fit to be called her elder… Except that man, maybe. At that moment, An Yufei recalled the blue sports car and Leng Yuchen, who had been sitting in it.

Before returning home, An Yufei had browsed through information about the city. When she first saw Leng Yuchen's photo, his eyebrows and eyes had quickly made her rank him as the number one choice on her list to be her father.

Of course, there were other men's names on that list as well, but they were not as highly ranked as Leng Yuchen in her heart. After all, the only person worthy to match with her mother would have a wealth and appearance similar to Leng Yuchen's.

"Come in! It's windy out there!" Dong Manman seemed accustomed to An Qi's exaggeration, so she totally ignored her.

She then took the box from An Qi's hands and walked into the house, while reminding them, "Close the door behind you."

An Qi obediently followed behind Dong Manman and An Yufei, carrying the remaining boxes into the house. She felt at home in Dong Manman's house, and as she threw the boxes on the floor and leaned against the window and had a good stretch, she said, "Wow, this is nice!"

Obviously, their old house could not compare to this house, as this house was exponentially more comfortable than their old house! Thinking of the old house always made An Qi think of her father, and the previously joyful look on An Qi's face was soon replaced by a dejected one.

At the moment, An Yufei was busy with Dong Manman in the kitchen. When she came out of the kitchen and saw the dejected look on An Qi's face, she knew that her mother must be either missing her grandfather or thinking about the mystery man who she had been with that night.

An Yufei felt sympathy for her mother, so she put on a bright smile and called out, "It smells good! Let's eat!"

"Mmmm!" An Qi switched to eating mode quickly, and after rushing to the dining table and sitting down, she immediately began to chow down on the food that was in front of her.

An Yufei and Dong Manman were not surprised by An Qi's enthusiasm for the food, but they still glanced at each other and raised their eyebrows.

An Yufei patiently and skilfully cut her T-bone steak into small pieces until it looked perfect, like a work of art. Then, she turned to the milk that was in the goblet, drinking it with great poise and delicacy.

Of course, if An Qi could discipline herself to eat as gracefully as her daughter, she would also look elegant. In the first two decades of her life, in order to impress Yuhao, she had restrained herself a lot.

But, since the arrival of An Yufei, An Qi had simply let herself go, as she felt that she no longer needed to please anyone. Now, An Yufei's health and safety were her only concerns.

Dong Manman did not have a high metabolism like An Qi, so drinking soft drinks and the like could make her fat. Thus, she usually skipped dinner.

In contrast, An Qi was eating as if she had not eaten a full meal for a hundred years. Dong Manman felt sad as she watched An Qi.

"Are you both full yet? Do either of you want more?" Dong Manman asked, as he saw that An Qi's plate had already been licked clean.

An Yufei still had a lot of steak left on her plate, but she already had put down her utensils and was gracefully wiping her lips with a napkin.

"Well, you can skip the formality..." An Qi said as she handed her shiny plate to Dong Manman, clearly eager for more.

"Cut it out! It is not your first time here! In fact, I bet you know the way to the kitchen even better than me!" As Dong Manman refilled her cup with red wine, she rolled her eyes and pointed towards the direction of the kitchen.

"Hey! I am a guest after all." An Qi giggled, then took her plate and ran to the kitchen.

"Wait!" Just when An Qi's hands had touched the kitchen door handle, An Yufei folded her napkin, walked towards An Qi, and asked coldly, "What did the doctor tell you?"

"The doctor said that if I consume too many calories at dinner, I'll get fat and damage my liver." Upon the insistence of An Yufei, An Qi recited the doctor's advice as if she was a primary school student.

An Yufei raised her arms and spread out her hands. "Well?"

"Alright... It's just that Dong Manman's food is so delicious!" An Qi said, while reluctantly resisting second helpings.

In this world, the only one who could make An Qi give up eating more delicious food was An Yufei! With regards to An Qi's health, An Yufei was very strict!

After An Qi was scolded and deterred from another helping by her daughter, she drooped her head listlessly and returned to her seat. Upon seeing this scene, Dong Manman burst out laughing, "Ha ha ha ha..."

An Qi felt like exploding in the midst of this rousing round of laughter. Only when An Yufei had come out of the kitchen once again did Dong Manman stop laughing.

Soon after that, she held her stomach and pointed her index finger at An Qi, then said, "An Qi, it serves you right!"
