Among the 5 GreenEast members, Kim Yoonjae's family had the poorest background. They lived in a remote village and worked in a small farm. His father passed away, he had a sick mother and 4 adoptive siblings under his care.
Just like other teenagers, Kim Yoonjae was dreaming to be an idol under StarLord entertainment label. The only label in South Korea that was known as the King Maker. He was imagining the easy life as a King, he would be able to get his family out of poverty.
After saving money from helping his mother in the farm, the 14 year old Kim Yoonjae went all the way to Seoul for an audition. Getting accepted in StarLord Entertainment was the happiest day in his life.
Unfortunately the entertainment industry treated people with ugly face with little justice. Kim Yoonjae never told anyone that he was getting beaten. He was so scared that he would get kicked out. Not only the manager and trainers would beat him up; the senior trainees also used him as a punching bag. They all kept telling him that he was a useless kid that would never debut because of his ugly face.
The worst harassment came from Jang Jiseok, he was the cousin of the CEO. Working in an entertainment industry was stressful and he picked Kim Yoonjae as his stress reliever.
He would beat Kim Yoonjae in a place where no one could see and avoid hitting his face. He instructed the others not to hit his face.
So Kim Yoonjae secretly took a lot of part time jobs during his training years to pay for cosmetic procedures, just so that the company would realize that his visual was a precious asset.
Still, they would mock him and insult him for his look. Saying that his cosmetic procedures was a waste of money.
the 14 year old Lee Changhyuk never knew that he could sing. He had always been trying to copy Kim Yoonjae and Son Kangyu in another studio secretly as their voices kept repeating in his head. So he was really happy when the vocal teacher recommended him to join GreenEast.
The two strongest vocalists in StarLord Entertainment Training Camp came to train him. They taught Lee Changhyuk different singing techniques. Whenever they sang- the magnae would look at Kim Yoonjae and Son Kangyu with sparkling eyes.
One day the new GreenEast member was practicing his vocal. After hours of practice, the 14 year old Lee Changhyuk was sleepy and tired so he could not get his singing right.
He still remembered how Jang Jiseok's face darkened as he failed to hit that note correctly.
The 17 year old Kim Yoonjae did not waste any time, he grabbed the youngest member's shoulders then looked straight into those innocent eyes who always looked at him with full admiration. His face remained calm but slightly, Lee Changhyuk could feel Kim Yoonjae's trembling hands.
"Changhyuk, get out."
"But hyung, I still want to practice."
"You can practice tomorrow. Kangyu, take Changhyuk out. Go join Ryeowook and Woochan."
16 year old Son Kangyu did not seem to agree with him, but he decided that he shouldn't argue. He nodded his head then grabbed the magnae's hand. His eyes reddened. "Let's go Changhyuk."
"Kangyu hyung, no! I still can sing."
"I'll make your favorite banana puding tonight, if you now go and see Ryeowook. Caramel sauce, no milk. Am I right?" A smile appeared on Kim Yoonjae's face as he assured the youngest member who always followed him around. At that moment, Kim Yoonjae was still taller than Lee Changhyuk, he patted his head gently.
"Lee Changhyuk, come on!" Son Kangyu desperately dragged Lee Changhyuk out from the recording studio.
The young Lee Changhyuk could sense the bad atmosphere, he kept looking back as Son Kangyu unwillingly dragged him to the dance studio.
The 17 year old Han Ryeowook stopped dancing when he saw the two younger members, Son Kangyu and Lee Changhyuk entered the dance studio. He nodded his head to Baek Woochan then passed him a towel.
"Changhyuk... What's wrong? Are you okay?"
"I wanna sing with Yoonjae hyung but they won't let me. Now he is practicing all alone." He started crying.
Han Ryeowook raised his brow. If there's anything that Kim Yoonjae had to polish it would definitely not be his singing skills. Han Ryeowook searched for Baek Woochan's eyes to ask for his opinion, but the 16 year old rapper just shrugged his shoulder to answer him.
"I'll go check." He opened the door and headed to the recording studio. The three younger members, Baek Woochan, Son Kangyu and Lee Changhyuk, followed him closely from behind.
Han Ryeowook was the first to enter the recording studio, he immediately stopped breathing as he saw his team member writhing in agony on the floor.
Kim Yoonjae's lower lip was bleeding as he kept biting the same spot to stop himself from screaming in pain. Jang Jiseok was lifting a chair, he was ready to slam it on Kim Yoonjae's weak body. His face turned pale when he saw Han Ryeowook.
"Hyung!" Lee Changhyuk was screaming as he ran towards Kim Yoonjae then curled his body to shield him. Son Kangyu followed him from behind and hugged both the youngest and Kim Yoonjae with all of his might.
The next thing he knew he heard a loud voice as Jang Jiseok's body hit the door glass.
CLINK
Han Ryeowook was losing his mind as he was punching and beating Jang Jiseok. He had been suspicious of Kim Yoonjae's weird behavior around Jang Jiseok, his long sleeves preference despite the hot weather, his sudden disappearances and his refusal to change clothes in front of others..
"Hyung! Stop it hyung! He'll die!" 16 year old Baek Woochan held Han Ryeowook tight, to stop him from slamming the chair to Jang Jiseok's unconscious figure.
"Don't you dare lay a finger on my members ever again!"
Han Ryeowook tossed the chair away. His eyes moved to Son Kangyu and Lee Changhyuk who were pouring next to Kim Yoonjae.
Han Ryeowook lowered his body and grabbed Kim Yoonjae's colar up, his eyes were all red as he tried to fight back the hot tears from falling down.
"You asshole! Why didn't you tell us!?"
Guilt clouded his chest as he was regretting his harsh remarks to Kim Yoonjae's sloppy dancing. How could he dance for hours with that messed up body?
Kim Yoonjae said nothing but laughed at his question. His eyes were looking at Lee Changhyuk and Son Kangyu who were crying beside him.
"I'm sorry hyung, I'm sorry."
"It is not your fault. Changhyuk, a man should never cry." A faint smile appeared on his face.
"Hyuuuuuung...." Son Kangyu was sobbing. As a member who spent the most time practicing with him, Son Kangyu knew something was wrong. But since Kim Yoonjae never said anything, he was too scared to ask. If only he knew that Kim Yoonjae was suffering this much... he would have been more brave!
"Son Kangyu... I'm fine." He winked at him.
Han Ryeowook took a deep breath then carried Kim Yoonjae on his back. Baek Woochan wordlessly helped him to lift up Kim Yoonjae.
The rapper was always the calmest among them and rarely showed any emotion yet at that time, Han Ryeowook could see his eyes were reddened, struggling to fight back the tears from falling.
"All of you brats. Get your shit together. Your hyungs are here. You should never be afraid of anything."
Son Kangyu wiped away his tears, a strong determination was beaming from his eyes. Acting as if he never shed a single tear, he grabbed Lee Changhyuk on the shoulders then nodded his head.
"Lee Changhyuk, you should never cry. Your hyungs are here. As long as we're together nothing will ever happen. No one can touch us, no one will ever touch you."
The CEO of StarLord Entertainment worried so much that the 5 members of GreenEast might quit. After seeing how incredible the 5 GreenEast members were during their practice, he knew the 5 of them were the diamonds that would spread the Korean Wave in all over the globe. He had to keep them no matter what.
Jang Jiseok, his very own cousin, could go to hell for all he cared but he would not let these 5 talented boys fall onto other labels. Even before the debut, a lot of medias had already put so much interests in Kim Yoonjae and Son Kangyu's extraordinary voice.
That Han Ryeowook might be a little difficult to handle but one look and you could tell that he had this elegance and aura that made people respect him. A fascinating dancer on stage and a charismatic leader off stage. Anyone would take him seriously and it was an important trait in the showbiz.
Baek Woochan was a rapper who spent his childhood in the United States. He had this sexy heavy voice and could rap fluently in 5 languages. He was the perfect component for their long awaited ambition: global expansion.
And that handsome bad boy Lee Changhyuk, he might not realize it but he had this amazing voice and power that could potentially compete with Son Kangyu and Kim Yoonjae.
Apart from the ugly Kim Yoonjae, the other 4 members were definitely above average when it came to looks. The CEO could imagine the endless concepts that would go with these 5 talents. Going to the top of the thrones and reigning over the other Kings would only be possible with this 5 perfect combination.
So he lowered his head in front of GreenEast, used his charm as a good businessman and made deals to keep them in StarLord Entertainment.
As soon as the news of Han Ryeowook sent Jang Jiseok to the hospital broke out in StarLord Entertainment, all bullies stopped.
And after that incident, they sponsored Kim Yoonjae for countless of plastic surgeries.
The sensational star was the one who changed the entire perception of plastic surgeries. His step was followed by many stars in StarLord Entertainment and wide spread to the entire industry.
