Chapter 1 - Ch 1

Flare leaped to his bed and wore sleek silver headgear on his head. This was the newest Virtual reality set, and Flare recently obtained it using his earnings.

"Log in." He uttered the magic words and entered the game world.

Light swirled in his vision and he found himself in a different place.

"Welcome to Heroic Saga. Initiating character creation."

"Please select your desired race."

A dozen of creatures that vaguely resembled him appeared in a line.

Flare played the game merely to kill some time. The virtual reality headgear caused a load on his expenses, but after seeing the graphics, he knew that it was worth it.

Flare did not think too much and chose and elf as his race. Simply because his elf form looked dashing.

"You can alter your appearance as you please." The system voice urged.

Flare did a little bit of make over in his face, turning it to look villainous and handsome at the same time.

"Hmm, not bad at all." He admired his work for a while before proceeding. "I wonder if the others will recognize me."

"Enter your character name."

He typed 'Glorious High King.'

It was a flashy name, but he found that it suited his avatar.

"Select your spawn point."

A map appeared before him. The areas were separated into various shade. Green, yellow, orange and red. Having played many games before, Flare did not bother to ask what those colors mean. He chose one of the few red spot in the map.

"Are you sure you want to proceed in this area."

"Yes." It was just a game anyway. He was used to resetting accounts. If it was too difficult, he could just create another character.

He play games because he likes the challenges, if he were to go with the easy mode, what's the point of playing?

His figure vanished from the character creation area and spawned on a mountain village.

According to the guide he read, he first need to find the golden colored exclamation mark and trigger the main quest for his area.

After wandering around, he found the quest giver. After chatting with the man, he successfully received the quest. Naturally, he only listened to the critical points, which is ta hunt 5 mountain boars in the mountain and bring back their corpse for verification. He ignored the flavor text.

Flare went out of the village. After a few minutes, light shone in the middle of the village and Flare's character appeared.

"Looks like it would be difficult."

The moment he sighted a boar, he confronted it to test its strength. Of course, he was prepared to die in the process. His death was within his calculations. If he wore glasses right now, he would have flashed it against the light.

The quest was impossible for beginners to complete; the boars had an average level of five while he was but a level one. In addition, the boars were probably the weakest monsters in the mountain. His only way of leveling up was to hunt these boars.

"...or not." He recalled the quests. He roamed the village and searched for quest marks. He found a dozen of them and completed them one by one until he was level 4. The rewards he obtained from them amounts to 80 coppers.

While he was roaming around, he did not see any players. This was a new game after all, it was barely one week after it was released.

The current number one game was also a virtual reality, and a lot of virtual reality games are in the market. The competition is fierce and players could not decide which game to invest time in.

However, he and his friend chose this inconspicuous game among the others. The graphics were clean and there were no unnecessary distractions in the menu. It wasn't too complex, and its simplicity made it beautiful.

He believe in his friends' foresight, and he also believe in his own. This game would become popular in the future.

Flare went to the armory and looked for weapons. He did not buy immediately and simply checked the prices.

He went to the potion shop next and inspected the wares.

[Poison Touch

Can be applied to a weapon

Inflict poison to a target

Poison- deals damage over 5 seconds base on target's max hp.

1 silver]

[Fire Bomb

Deal 200 AoE damage. Chance to inflict Burn

Burn - deals increasing damage over time.

1 silver 30 coppers.]

[Good Alcohol

Increases all stats by 5 for 1 minute. Inflict Confusion to the user.

Confusion- reduces accuracy.

20 coppers.]

Flare went back to the armory and bought a crude spear with 50 copper. It has low durability but decent damage for a beginner. A spear is a safe weapon and somewhat easy to use.

He then bought a Good Alcohol. Using that and his weapon combined with his level four base attack, would make 55 attack power and would also increase his health by a good amount. 5 points to his constitution adds 50 points to his hp. The only downside would be the confusion buff, as much as possible, he would like to avoid resorting to this thing.

With all this, his preparations were complete. He walked out of the village and entered the woods. He immediately sighted a mountain boar grazing on herbs.

Flare charged and impaled the boar on its head. A successful ambush!

Red numbers appeared above the boar's head, signifying a critical hit. Besides this, a symbol appeared besides its name. It did not take long for Flare to realize that this was a stun icon. This was a great found, critical hits could induce stun.

He repeatedly stabbed the boar to the head, red pixels rose in the air each time he did. A string of red numbers appeared, sometimes the stun symbol would appear. Finally, the boar completely disintegrated into red pixels.

Another found, hitting a weak spot has a one hundred percent chance of triggering a critical hit.

A nearly pack skin and a pair of shoes appeared in the place. There was a small boar doll with crossed eyes among the items.

Boar corpse

Quest item.
