Berto turned around and could see the huge worm that had slowly emerged from the middle of the street.
"At least you saved me the trouble of attracting you here..." (Berto)
Berto began to walk slowly back until he managed to jump inside the building and began to run up the stairs, strangely they were old but in good condition and there was no presence of roots.
Climbing the stairs very quickly is one thing, but the consumption of stamina is excessive because if one is not in shape it is very easy to get tired and Berto was already reaching its limit despite wearing the special armor.

Berto forced himself and kept running until on the 20th floor he was on the floor to rest for a few moments.

Berto stood up again but felt that something was wrong as the worm did not seem to be following him which started to worry him but at that moment he began to feel some vibration in the structure and when looking down the stairs Berto observed as the Worm was climbing using the floors to move to another.

Step after step Berto kept running up the stairs until he reached the 45th floor and kicked open the roof door and positioned himself in the middle of the roof.
"Uffff...haaafff...haaaffff..." (Berto)
Berto was totally out of breath and his legs felt very heavy at the same time, each step he took until the middle of the roof of the building was as if he had weights of 200 kilos tied to his feet.
Berto began to catch his breath and took out his rifle and his two small robots waiting to fight the worm, but he could not feel the vibrations of the movement of the worm nor the noise of the structure being destroyed as it passed.
Berto was worried knowing that he had climbed to the 45th floor only for the worm to turn around and abandon the pursuit.
Strangely a huge shadow was present covering Berto and this began to turn his head slowly only to find himself in front of the giant worm, but this time the worm had been smarter and had twisted his body on the outside of the structure which made Berto unable to feel his presence.
At that moment another huge part of the worm emerged from the roof right from the center and hit Berto in the chest by throwing it against the structure which had the exit door which Berto had planned to use as a grip while the building collapsed but his plan seemed had been ruined and this had not even begun.

Berto came out of the rubble and stood up as he could and prepared to start firing until he felt a strange and powerful tremor that shook the structure, it seemed that finally the supports of this could not stand the weight of the building and the worm at the same time.

Berto spoke to the worm and it seemed to have understood something of what he had said and the worm had been prepared to attack until the structure was shaken again and this began to slowly lean towards the side of the worm since this was the largest source of weight which hung on the side of the building.
At that time Berto grabbed what he could and prepared himself for the impact and for the possible flight because if he lost his grip he would fly flying against other buildings causing much damage to himself. Although thinking well of a direct fight against the giant worm in the same way Berto was not going to leave unharmed, this only managed to show that he had to become stronger if he wanted to live in that cruel and new world.
The building slowly tilted until a sudden movement took speed in its fall until it finally reached the ground crushing other smaller buildings and killing the worm. Berto had held up very well but the piece of metal he had clung to had not resisted and broke off the roof throwing Berto against a building.
