First year of High School.
It was another ordinary day yet most of the students felt excited because this week marked the beginning of the new semester, the last one for them to enjoy as a freshman.
The first break just began and students scattered all over the place: creating a random pattern on the school grounds which looked lively from every angle. A certain girl with calm (and a bit cold) demeanor remained on her desk, took out a light book from her brown sling bag: her new bought novel. Traced it page by page, while ignoring her surroundings and flew high into another dimension named imagination. Other classmates chatted around her and sometimes asked her one or two questions, but that disturbance couldn't take her attention off from this thing called book. She was indeed a bibliophile.
Chii, that girl, was just your usual neighbourhood girl whom happened to enrolled to school faster than anyone else did normally. Her one year old difference from most of her classmates could be seen clearly from her physical features: her 145 cm tall, fair skin and skinny figure, with a rather childish oval face and bangs covered her little forehead.
Today, she gathered her mid-length straight hair in a ponytail to counter the ultimate lessons of the day: physics and chemistry.
The distinct features on her which made her recognizable are a dimple on each of her cheeks; and a pair of big-bright-black eyes with a long thick eyelashes. Other than that, she was just your ordinary girl, based on her looks.
Mapple High was the most favourite public high school in this region, so the students that enrolled there came from various middle schools in that area.
Deep down inside, Chii once wished to have a pleasant journey in this great school, including all youthful sides of school years: friendship and love. She knew it was really cliché and decided to put it as her last priority in the end. That's right, all she had to do was to make herself familiar with studies and all high school activities which she never try back then in middle school. She was in the process of re-created her identity and personality: to be the smart and stoic model student whose parents were proud of.
"Excuse me,"
a voice from the door next to her desk made her thrown back into this realm.
She didn't reply right away, just stared at that tall figure who peeked inside the classroom, piercing through him with her sharp eyes.
While her desk located right across the door, this occurrence happened frequently so she automatically took the role to answer every query of their class' visitors. However, she was in the middle of her adventure, inside her novel, and this creature had to popped up and ruined her whole new world.
Instead of answering politely like she usually did, the sentence 'you just bothered me!' were clearly written all over her face.
Realizing what he just did, that boy said sorry and and then asked in advance, "is Ryu here?"
Softened her fierce expression a little, Chii turned around and pointed at the desk on the middle rows, answered shortly, "there he is". Back to her novel, and didn't think twice about that disturbance. It was just another 'normal' encounter, that's what she thought,
at least at that time.
