What the fu, k Togi," I disrupted him in the middle of his self-congratulation, perplexing him and causing him to frown. "To begin with, you used the very same word that Benn did, but you said it with a smile. Second, I just ended up at that party because you were too preoccupied with hooking up with that random redhead slut to properly supervise my brother, your friend. Finally, I'm not sure why you or whoever beat up Benn and said it was because of me, but I never asked. I won't thank you because you also called me agro." I scowl at him, wiping the smug smile off his face. The condition is far too strange to comprehend.
"What do you mean? Have I done you a favor? What exactly am I missing?" With puppy dog eyes, he asks.
"Just leave me alone, uh-. Why am I still talking to you? You're my brother's mate, so...find my brother...ugh, I'm not interested—I'm going home." I mutter and turn away from both him and the cafeteria—what a perfect way to end the first day of school—early dismissal.
"Wait," he said. I ignore his objections. I take out my phone and text Megumi that my stomach hurts and that I'm leaving early, to which he responds with a thumbs up emoji. Wow, this is incredible. So thoughtful.
As is usual, I enter my empty house while my parents are away on business. We have a lovely home for people who are barely surviving.
"What did you think of your weekend? Thank you for asking. It was terrible. You're more than welcome, honey. I adore you, Mother, you are perfect. I love you son, who goes above and beyond for his older brother." I murmur to myself, pretending to be both a mother and a son in a one-man show. I head up to my room after heating up my popcorn and pouring a cup of milk, ready to relax for the rest of the craziest first day of school ever.
I clamber into bed, mug in one hand, bowl in the other, and attempt an early start on my tri 1 assessments, which results in me shutting down my laptop three minutes in; the meager prospect of writing an essay draft luring me into Netflix's seductive embrace.
Before settling on The Blind Side, I log into Netflix and see a disappoining cheap new movie promotion across the TV screen - nothing worse than a Netflix original - before deciding on The One Side. Nothing beats a good ol' heart-wrenching movie to end the haze of the first day of school- The One Side is a work of cinematic history and unquestionably my favorite film of all time. The opening scene puts me in a peaceful trance, with the pixels amusing my eyes before I succumb to my eternal desire for sleep, with the character's voice over accompanying me into the land of dreams.
A loud notification dings from my phone after only 3 seconds of sleep, disrupting my peace. Is it a secret admirer? Someone confessing love to me - an unsung hero to rescue me from this sad castle?
(2:11) Megumi:I can't drop you off at home, lol. Now it's time for one last minit session. Enjoy your stroll.
loser (laughing)
No way. It's just megumi.
(2:11) Megumi:Nah, just kidding, text me when you get home.
(2:12) Christian:I'm already at home, jerk.
(2:13) Christian:Have a good practice session.
I literally told him a couple of hours ago that I was going home...and he responded. I turn down the volume and let the sound of The Blind Side intro try to help me sleep away the stress of the day. Dream wisps dance through my mind before being obliterated by a loud knock on my door. For the sake of Fuck's sake.
"Megumi, please leave! I'm attempting to sleepeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" I scream angrily. That was either a quick practice or no practice. I'm not sure, and I'm not interested.
The door suddenly open defiantly, and I hear soft footsteps approaching the other side of my room. As he kneels on the side, the bed dips slightly.
"Megumi, what the hell are you doing? I'm attempting to sle-" I come to a halt in the middle of a sentence, Togi looking at me with a confused expression and awkwardly scratching his head while turning to the screen.
"Oh, I was just looking for Megumi, hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha Oh my God, I adore this filmmmmm. One Side is, in a low-key, high-key way, my all-time favorite film." I slap it away in amazement as my brain catches up to what's going on as he declares, lying down on the bed and dipping his hand into the popcorn.
