Chapter 1 - Ruby Red Amulet

My name is Jennie Young a seventeen-year-old girl who loves having an adventure. Ever since I was young I would enjoy reading fairy tales with my grandmother. My grandmother said that I reminded her of the princesses written in the story with my care-free and loving personality. As I got older I tried to keep her words in mind and be a kind and caring person as the princesses in those stories.

Today is the day of my grandmother's funeral and I'm at her home with my parents packing her things. I stand in her attic and look at all the treasures my grandmother has collected over the years. As I walk across the room, my eyes start to tear up at the thought of never seeing my loving grandmother again in this life.

In the midst of my disappears I come across a small decorated chest, one I never notice when I visited in the past. Curious, I open the chest to a large colorful book and small jeweled box and picture of my grandmother. Looking at the book I noticed that it is a collection of fairy tales of all the stories I read with my grandmother as a child.

The book brings back positive memories and I put it aside to take home as a memory of my time with her in the past. When I opened the small jeweled box I noticed a white amulet with a rose clasp. I put the amulet with the storybook as an heirloom that I would keep safe in the future. Lastly, I looked at the picture of my grandmother and my tears start to flow when I see her smiling face. Getting up and grabbing the items I go to leave the attic when I exit my grandmother's home I give it a smile and wish my grandmother a restful and peaceful afterlife.

In my room, I put on the white amulet and look at myself in the mirror; as such an important keepsake I vowed to wear it as a reminder of my grandmother. I put her picture on my dresser and sat in bed as I looked at the storybook. The first fairy tale was snow white and the seven dwarves and I instantly smiled.

I remember when I was little and my parents missed their flight and they were going to miss my birthday. Sad and crying at the news my grandmother told me about a strong princess who went through tough times but still got a happy ending. That knowledge made my heart feel warm and I slowly got over the sadness of missing my parents. To me, that was the day my love for fairy tales began and the special bond I shared with my grandmother.

My heart became warmed at the memories as I read the fairy tale, I have been so into the story I never noticed my amulet slowly changing colors. When I got to last page and read the line, 'They all lived happily ever after,' my amulet changed ruby red and started to glow.

Shocked, I jumped out of bed and dropped the book on the ground and grabbed the amulet. When I touched it the red glowed started to fill the room. The next thing I noticed everything went dark and I started to hear bell all around me.

When I opened my eyes I found myself lying on a huge bed in a huge decorated room. Surprised, I rose out of bed and walked around the room to try and get my bearing. I came across a floor-length mirror and almost screamed at the imaged shown back.

I saw a lady around twenty-four, with long raven-black hair, and crystal blue eyes and creamy skin. As I expected this lady whose body I now possessed I never saw the door in the room opening.

"My lady?" a small voice said from behind me.

I jumped to see a petite girl in a maid costume giving me a confused look, seeing as I didn't respond she asked again. "My lady, are you okay?"
