"And where were you two up 'till now?" the teacher called out to them, their presence followed by echoing gossips around the class, facing a puzzled teacher. Her pink curls bounced, flowing down her back as she looked at them displeased. "Sorry Furuhoya sensei", "the history club members were called short to a meeting for the culture festival" he went on. She nodded, smiling gently before gesturing for them to take a seat. (At least it's history), Nahiko fixated her eyes on the teacher to concentrate. It was just 15 minutes in the class- the longest 15 minutes of her life in that class, she never remembered finding history a bore. Even if they skipped most of the class getting drinks...
"They must've fought" a girl sneered and twirled her short auburn swept hair, whispering to her friend across the table who sat in front of Nahiko. She remembered that girl. Always copied her, Nahiko got a haircut and a few days after she'd have the same one, except she never dyed her hair pink, (that jerk would walk up to me and act like it was a coincidence). "They've always been so smitten" the next girl said nodding slowly, her lip curled into a smile. "But we shouldn't be saying this right in front of her, what if she hears us?" she murmured, squinting her emerald eyes while jutting out her neck towards her friend, "What if she does?" the girl with auburn hair snickered.
(I bet she wanted me to hear this) Nahiko fumed. The girl in front of Nahiko shrugged her shoulders, "I don't like drama" she tipped her shoulders forward a little like a half shrug, plastered a fake smile and continued taking notes. "But hey I saw something interesting in the hallway before-" Rrring! Nahiko perked up and slung her backpack over her shoulders, break, finally. But she was curious, (what was she gonna say?)
She made her way up to the teacher. "How was the book I lent you?" the teacher smiled hopefully, "It was great..So much useful information about the Meiji , I'd never thought I'd find a book like that" Nahiko said with a burgeoning excitement. "Well.. In that case you may keep it" the teacher brushed her rose tendril locks over her shoulders, jumping with her every move. Nahiko couldn't contain her excitement, she grasped her right cardigan sleeve, fidgeting with her fingers and smiling from ear to ear after thanking her.
Skipping through the hall she plopped her bag down on the floor, rummaging for her book. Her fingers slid past her books, digging her hand inside the bag to flip through. She searched for that familiar rugby leather texture the particular book had, but there was none. Strange, she thought to herself, finally staring down into her bag. After a few deep breaths and rummages for the book her teacher lent her, she broke into a panic.
The only book with ancient history on the deceased family
The only book that recorded the Meiji's family secrets
And it was gone.
