Chapter 2 - Home

'What am I thinking? Kill people? Before that, I have to get stronger. Also, it is better to have those bastards suffer for what they did to her. Death is the quickest way out.' Sitting up pain laced through my body making me whimper. 'First I need to build a pain tolerance.'

Slowly I managed to stand my self up. Looking over to the lily pond, I saw a thin layer of ice covered the water. Looking at my reflection, with the moon just above I saw myself as the little girl. Touching my cheek it spits open, and fresh blood covered my face once more. Right now I can't see what I look like so I gave up on that idea. Shivering I walked home, as the wind chilled my back, causing me to tremble even more. While walking, I watched as things were covered in frost and forming ice. Reaching a small shack that looked ready to fall off its hinges. Bending down I slid through a crack at the bottom of the door; being careful I slipped a cloth out of my way and was finally inside.

Inside the shack, I felt a little warmer. Sheets covered the holes in the walls and there in the corner is a small stove and a wooden tub. Sitting on the stove is a kettle full of frozen water. On the opposite side of the little shed are multiple sheets covering a stack of hay forming a bed. On the bed was a small cat that Abigail saved a few months ago. Petting the little cat, I grabbed some salted meat that is barely enough for one to survive on. With a few of the dried vegetables, I looked around for some wood to start a fire in the stove. Finally, I found a few blocks of wood. Grabbing a small hand full of hay and leaves I started the fire. Thinking about it, I remembered that the previous Abigail was able to use fire magic. Right now though I don't know if I can use it since I am a different soul.

Feeling heat fill the shack I watched as the ice melted and the water started to boil. Pouring a little bit of the water into the wooden bucket, I poured some into a metal crate. The metal crate was always used to collect herbs and food, so I sloshed the water around and cleaned the bucket. Dumping out the dirty water I set the small metal crate on the stove and filled it with water; placing the salt-cured meat and the mushrooms int the boiling water I topped off the cured meat. Seeing the water boil the beef started to soften soon an aroma filled the shed. Feeling that food was going to be done, I placed some dry herbs into the stew that I am making.

Grabbing a cloth, I started to wipe down my face using the water in the wooden bucket. Feeling that I am clean, I felt better about myself. The bleeding stopped, and my open wounds scabbed over. Wiping down the rest of my body I saw buses all over, Being beating every day for the past few months can prove to be awful. Once clean I saw that the food finally fully cooked. Stirring the stew, I grabbed two small wooden bowls and poured the stew into them. Waking up the kitty crawled over and started to eat her stew. Blowing on mine, I ate my stew as well. Grabbing a wood lid, I set it on top of the bucket and sat it on the ground I curled up on what is a makeshift bed. Before falling asleep, I removed the kettle from the stove. Falling asleep I felt better than ever even though I am beaten and sore.
