Chereads / Choices of Life / Chapter 8 - 2028

Chapter 8 - 2028

10 years after what happened at the warehouse, a woman is escorting a guy with her car to their meeting point with an unknown organization. In 2028, T.H.E.M control almost everything, and everyone, that comes in touch with technology. Only a handful of things can go undetected. One of those things would be Rico's way of hacking the system. Another would be the way William is able to find the resources and materials to repair weapons. Not to mention Light's running and cutting speed, almost like a ninja. And don't forget Lance's hiding skills. They never know what hit them with his hide and snipe skills. There are the top tier members of the unknown organization that the woman was driving to.

The phone rang. The woman picks up with a trembling voice.

'Y-yes?' the woman says, 'Who is it?' she asks scared.

'I told you, you should have taken those pills girl. Your nerves aren't made for this kind of work.' a man said on the other line of the call.

'Shut up Rico! For God's shake when will you grow up?' the woman says furiously.

'Yeah, yeah you can scold me later. What's the situation there exactly? The local cameras were caught on the explosion, so I can't have a view of the situation.' he asks.

'Well it seems pretty bad. I can see a lot of agents running around trying to control the situation, tho I can't say what exactly is going on. And you know very well I can't go any nearer than this. Regardless, you have to find us another way around. The stress is killing me.' she said with almost a begging tone on her voice.

'I figured as much, plus this is taking way too long and we need to be out of here in an hour max. You'll have to go through the old main street. The underground one. I doubt there will be any of them there, but I can bet that some nasty fellas will be. So use cautious and no mercy.' the guy said with a serious tone and hung up.

The woman sighed and turned the car around to go to the entrance of the old main street.

'Sorry for being such a drag Sara. Certainly asking for too much after being gone for 10 years.'

'Oh shut your mouth, you idiot. If you hadn't done what you did, we would all be dead. Plus...' Sara pauses for a moment, 'I have to get you to someone who you owe a lot to.' she says and stops the car. They both get out. Sara was dressed in casual clothes, just a sweater and some jeans. The man was covered on a robe, hiding his face with the hood. They started going down the street and soon they were underground. The place stunk pretty bad. Homeless people could be found all over the place. Some were scared and chose to hide away, others decided to try and rob the pair but Sara pointed a gun at them, which led to them leaving the pair alone.

'Seems like you know how to handle that thing. Have you killed anyone before?' the man asked Sara.

'No, but I will if you won't shut up.' she answered while looking around for anyone that could ambush them.

'Tough words for a lady, wouldn't ya say?' an unknown voice was heard out of the blue. 'I don't remember ya doin much back then, when all of ya were captured and forced us to come and save ya.' the person said and Sara looked at the man she was escorting. His eyes had become gold and scary, reminding her of how a dragon would look down to its prey.

'Don't tell me, ya don't remember me? My heart is hurt.' the man starts laughing, 'Oh wait, I don't have one!' keeps laughing hysterically.

'Shut up you monster! It's your fault we all were dragged into this!' Sara points her gun to the man.

'Oh poor me. What are you gonna do? Shoot? Even if that would actually hurt me, it would hurt your friend too, rememb-' the voice was cut and the man's eyes returned to his normal, hazelnut brown calm eyes.

'If only it knew how to stop talking.' the man says and continues walking, 'Let's go, everyone is waiting.'

They walked a couple of hundred of meters in silence. The woman felt bad for pointing her gun to this man she was supposed to protect and... he was her friend once. She wanted to apologize, but she couldn't find the right words. She decided to just leave it be when the man decided to break the silence.

'You don't need to worry about it. I understand your anger and hatred towards this being, and possibly towards me. I am the one that came up with the idea of this creature. Even if I didn't exactly bring it to life, I still had a big role on it.' the man said.

'No, it wasn't your fault. If you knew something like this would happen, you wouldn't come up with it. Plus, I'm pretty sure that things would be worse if we didn't have you and it to help us out with this situation.' the woman said in an awkward tone.

'In any case, are we close yet? I could really use something to eat after so long.' the man asked while holding his stomach.

'Yes, we just have to take this turn here on the right and we should be able to see the entrance to the hideout.' she said and after they turned, she pointed with her finger towards where the entrance was, an old, almost completely floored building. It had graffiti all over its walls and people were crawling around it.

'Are these guys ours?' he asked Sara.

'No idea big guy, we will have to find out ourselves.' she says and moves towards the one that seemed like he was their leader. The man was a gangster who could be recognized from miles away. He had spiked punk hair, dyed in the color of light green. His ears seemed to have some trouble dealing with the number of the piercings he had on. He was muscular with an average height, wearing ripped jeans, a shirt with skulls on it and a jeans-style jacket without sleeves.

'Well well. Look what we have here boys. New blood! Should we welcome them with the old fashioned way?' the leader said with a smile on his face and a cigarette on his lips.

'We don't want any trouble, we are just passing by.' Sara said and tried not to show fear.

'I don't know lady. We could come to an understanding about you but, I'm not so sure your friend will go unharmed.' he said and stood right in front of the mysterious robed man.

'Why dontcha take this hoodie off mate? Is your face that ugly?' the man asks and bursts out of laughter. The robed man stays still and silent, looking at the leader of the group laughing. Once he stopped, he realized that his "joke" didn't exactly faze the robed man. And that, made him mad.

'Let's take a look then, you ugly bastard!' he shouts and pulls the hood off the robed man, revealing his face and hair. His eyes were closed, but one could notice that he was trying hard to keep his anger under control. The leader came close to his face with a grin on his smile and blew smoke on the robed man's face. The man snapped. His eyes opened wide and grabbed the leader from his neck.

'You should stop smoking, friend. It really doesn't do any good to you.' the man said while raising the leader off the ground. A lot of his goons had gathered by the time and weren't happy about their leader being treated like that. The man throws the leader to the ground in front of him and looks around him, to each and every one of the goons.

'I will give you only one chance to save yourselves. Leave this place at once and never come back and I promise that you all will go unharmed.' the robed man said, but the gang had already decided what to do. They jumped at the man, yelling and screaming at the top of their lungs, holding bats and knifes.

'Suit yourselves.' the man said with the unknown voice again and his eyes glowed golden for once more. The man smiled.

'Let's dance with the demons under the moonlight' he said and the slaughter began.
