Chapter 23 - Interrogation Lunch

(Quincy's POV)

Seraphina and I decided to stay at my apartment for dinner. She collapsed her whole body on the couch when we arrived from the granny-lunch-turned-family-investigation event. I sat next to her taking a strand of her silky black hair and wrapping it playfully around my index finger.

"It wasn't that bad," I said with no hint of truth.

"You must have been a priest in your past life," she replied as she choked out a laugh.

"Well, I'm glad it's over. Now we have the whole day to ourselves" I tried my best to pacify my little darling.

Lunch time... 2:25pm

For the first 30minutes, the elders got along well like long-lost friends. Seraphina and I were looking over the menu for what to order. We had to take everyone's health and preferences into consideration.

After much debate, we got skinless chicken tenders, house salads, chicken soup, garlic bread, shrimp, beef, and vegetable dumplings.

Cafe B wasn't a regular coffee shop. It was a food cafe that served coffee on the side. Business genuis!

Once food was served, I suddenly found myself in the spotlight. Whatever happened to 'we don't talk when we eat' policy?

Grandpa Jenkins: So what do you do boy? 'He asked as he picked a piece of tender into his plate.'

Quincy: IT and software development.

Grandpa Jacob: Another science geek I see. I bet that was one selling point Summer fell for.

Quincy: Hahaha. I put all of me out there for her to see.

Grandpa James: She picked well. I can tell you're a promising young man.

Grandma Jenkins: Of course he is. His face value is already enough to sweep my old self off my feet.

Grandma Davis: Seraphina dear, you grew up well.

Grandpa Davis: So pretty and calm. Way better than that silly boy

Seraphina: Thank you grandma and grandpa Davis

Grandpa Davis: Just call me grandpa. You're already my granddaughter.

Seraphina: Yes, grandpa

Laura: I never knew you could be this obedient Seraphina. I'll need to borrow uncle whenever I want you to do things for me.

The table was filled with endless chatter and laughter.

Paul: Will your parents be coming to this side of town?

Quincy: Yes sir. My dad retired and my mom got a job as a science professor at University of Z. They'll be moving back next week along with my sister.

Paul: That's good. How old is she?

Quincy: Queen is 15 and adorable

Grandpa Jenkins: I remember when Flora was 15. What a wild child

Grandpa James: I agree

Quincy: I have to say I agree too, 'I shivered when I recalled Flora's stare down at the bar yesterday'.

Laura: We should have lunch again when Quincy's parents are back in town.

Grandma Jenkins: Yes. Our brats should also be in attendance

Grandma James: Let's set the date after Claudia gets hitched. I bet she's somewhere having a meltdown over wedding choices.

Seraphina: I just hope her scissors aren't above a customer's head during the meltdown. Hahaha

Grandpa Davis: Hahaha. That'd be the customer's badluck

Grandma Davis: Bald is in vogue now

Seraphina: It sure is.

From probing to gossip to advising, all the way back to gossip and more probing, the lunch finally came to an end around 4:30pm.

Satisfied with Quincy and the gossips they squeezed out of him, the elders returned with their bellies filled and huge smiles on their faces.
