A mysterious black fire. The whole place was covered in fire. A fire with colors not of red, orange, blue or yellow. But a fire made up of black, purple and magenta. I was scared and couldn't do anything but cry in the hands of my mother as she carries me upstairs into the attic. And then… I was awaken by a strong and loud voice.
"Wake up Yuri!!! You're making Liz late again!"
That was Aunt Marci. Aunt Marci is my legal guardian. My parents died by fire when I was young. All I could remember was my mother carrying me into the attic. And everything went blur… Thinking what happened next makes my head ache as if a nail is being hammered into my skull.
Everything that is supposed to be inherited by me from my parents goes to my legal guardian. But it will be transferred to me at the age of 20. But ever since I was put into my aunt's custody. I actually never had a taste of my inheritance. Instead it goes straight to Liz, my cousin and aunt's only daughter.
I walked down stairs for breakfast right after I prepared everything in my pack bag. But suddenly, aunt Marci held a tight grip on my arm and pulled me out the hall.
"What took you so long?"
Said Liz who was waiting in the guest's lobby with her arms across her bust and her legs folded. She stood up and walked outside and into the car.
"But I haven't gotten any breakfast yet."
I said as my aunt pushed me outside. Sigh… I guess I'll be having my breakfast at school again. I saw Liz sit in the passenger's seat so I followed. But she face palmed me right before I got in.
"What do you think you're doing?" Liz said with her left eyebrow all gone up.
"Sitting?" I answered in a form of question.
"Then sit there. Beside the driver's seat." Liz said as she pointed the vacant seat.
I guess I don't have a choice then. I sat next to the driver while holding my tummy again. I've been skipping breakfast ever since that dream came. Maybe it's because of my upcoming 16th birth day. It's almost a week after this day. I'm excited but somehow I feel uneasy.
We drove all the way to Midday University. It's one of the oldest schools ever built in the region. It was said that the school is now on its 996th year. My cousin Liz and I are both on the first years of our high school. So does that mean it'll be the schools 1000th year when we graduate? How luckily coincidental.
But whatever. We drove for a while and then we arrived at the university. Liz stepped out of the car and walked ahead of me. Then there she goes gathering her flock towards the hallway.
I was walking in the lobby when someone snatched my arm. I looked and saw Suzy, my bestfriend. She tied my arm with her as we walk.
"Hey Yuri!" she said
"Oh. Hey." I respond.
"Why so glum?" she asked as she raise her left eyebrow
"Umm… I don't know. It's just that I've been having repetitive dreams for a while." I explained.
She asked me for them in details. I explained the contents of my dream as we walk in the hallway on the way to the classroom. We continued for some time as we sat on our chairs, then the teacher came in.
The boring heat and the sunny sky turned dark within a moment as I looked at the sky from the window. Then thunder came right after the lightning that touched the ground. Then I crouched covering my ears as I scream.
"Yuri? Is there something wrong?"
The teacher asked me as I regain my sense to look at her.
"Nothing ma'am. It's just the lightning made me gasp."
I replied as I point at the sky outside.
"What lightning?"
The teacher asked me. I looked at the sky again and saw not the dark clouds but the sunny sky. The bell saved me and rung, informing everyone the time for lunch. I sat back down and prepared my things while Suzy waits for me at the door.
Suzy and I went to catch our lunch. Well its brunch for me, breakfast and lunch if you know what I mean.
"Hey. What happened out there?"
Suzy asked as we walk our way to the cafeteria.
"I don't know. It's just the weather changed randomly on our class a while ago."
"Huh? What do you mean?"
"Didn't you not saw the sky turning dark and heard the loud thunder?"
"What dark cloud? Maybe you're just imagining things Yu."
"Maybe you're right Su."
When we reached the cafeteria we observed that the lunch hall was filled with a lot of students gathering on the table spot. Suzy and I found a vacant spot right on the corner where we could eat together.
"Hey, Suzy. What's with the crowd?"
"I don't know Yu. Maybe the gossip?"
"What gossip?"
"About this cool guy."
"Huh? Who?"
"Umm… the one staring at your back."
I looked at the students behind me and saw a guy across 10 tables staring at me. I saw him raised an eyebrow and smiled. 'Is he seducing me? Yuck!' I looked at him sharply and raised my eyebrow as well. Then a loud thunder sounded so I faced back Suzy and I continued eating.
"Found you!"
I heard a voice whispering in my head. I looked around and back to the guy again. He stared at me having a smirk on his face. Did he do the whispering thing?
