Chapter 4 - A Skirmish

He sauntered out of the office after speaking with the dean and made his way around the academic block so he could get access to the flat where the A-level classes were located.

He saw very many new faces hanging around the A-level block and got puzzled "Did all the former students refuse to come back?" as he was still mulling over the thought, he almost bumped into someone and almost toppled over but due to his quick reflexes, he adjusted his body and leaned backwards, at the same time; he also held the person that was falling by the waist. It was effortless work for him compared to his daily workout routine and rigorous exercise. He swiftly scanned the surrounding and regained his senses.

As he turned into the alley, memories of the past 4 years he had spent at this academy during his junior years kept flashing before his eyes. The scents of the food they always enjoyed during the lunch break, the oils and fragrances from the donuts, pies and pizzas they used to sneak into classroom.

It was a well-established fact at the school that smuggling foods into classrooms and eating during a lesson was highly prohibited and punishable by the school rules and regulations that is if the culprit was caught and handed over to the school disciplinary committee.

The punishment for this crime was to sweep the entire classroom at the end of the day and this would go on for a whole week. This would be done as the rest of the students had set off to go back home. The culprits would stay behind as their fellow students were dismissed to go back home. This was done to ensure and see to it that the classrooms were cleaned till they were sparkling clean by the students who had broken the rules and not by any third-party that felt pity for them.

Some of the students who were implicated were sometimes lent a helping hand to sweep and mop the classes by their fellow students; this was the main reason why other students were dismissed so those students who were caught could stay behind and do the cleaning alone.

However throughout the time Bronson spent at this academy, he had never been implicated in this crime although he managed to sneak into classroom with food and snacks multiple times and made sure to eat them amidst lessons. He was very keen not to arouse the teacher's anger because even if his family background was not an easy one, he couldn't bear to let his grandma hear that he had misbehaved at the academy and thus receive a scolding from her.

His fair and handsome face was one of the things that made the female students in his class to secretly admire him and continuously crush on him. He also had an impeccable mastery of the sciences; and for that he was admired by almost the whole population of students in his class and envied by a few for his intelligence. He was always willing to share his knowledge with any other student who had a challenging problem in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and any subject related to the sciences.

It's safe to say he was a cool geek, a handsome and well groomed nerd; his passion and love for computers almost surpassed his love for the sciences. The computer basics teacher always used his work as a model of excellence and urged the other students to emulate his spirit and fervency in attempting tests, assessments and examinations.

This was what would partly get him off the hook every time he nearly came close to being punished. He held a good record of discipline with the teachers; he was in their good books, especially the science teachers. They would easily stand in for him incase other teachers tried to implicate him in any crime. This kept his student file clean and void of any offences.

As he finally finished his O-levels and advanced to A-levels he wasn't thinking about coming back to this school to continue his education. He had other plans he thought would work out well for him so he could probably join another academy from another region in the country. He wanted to explore the entire Mwavura while studying such that he could get exposed to various talents and brains from all over the country and also gain rich experiences from his interactions with them.

He didn't want to be a frog at the bottom of the well with a view so narrow that he couldn't see the wide expanse of the sky and thus fail to see other talented individuals that existed in the world. He wanted to expand his wings and soar. In all truth he believed this was what was likely to happen because he always had his way as the first grandchild of their family. He was always given first priority over some issues and his voice was always listened to. His grandparents always ensured that whatsoever he desired if it was within legal boundaries they would acquire it for him. They loved and cherished him so much that sometimes they would scold his father for being stern and harsh with him; even if Martel Bronson was acting as a disciplinarian, he was often told off by his father for being too hard on his son.

Barnes was sure this time after he had picked his academic documents; he was definitely changing schools and either going back to the central region or heading to the western region. This was surely going to be one fun adventure for him.

As he was waltzing in the alley, the bright sun rays streamed in and bathed him in their resplendent glorious light that momentarily blinded and dazzled him at the same time. He wanted to access the a-level section so he could take a look at their facilities and decide for the last time whether he was to stay and continue his education in Lumos academy or if he was to continue on his journey to the greater horizons.

While immersed in his reverie and thoughts;

"Ahhh you moron. Can't you pay attention to where you're going?'' A soft muffled female voice spoke from Barnes' chest.

He had accidently bumped into someone head-on and this person turned out to be a lady with an ample bust. Upon their collision; Barnes felt like molds of Jelly had been compressed into his chest; her boobies felt like fluffy queen cakes, but these came in a huge package. He imagined these ought to have been as soft and tender as marshmallows they could have been to the touch.

"Whose voice is this? Why is it so angelic?" As he was still trapped in his thoughts, he had almost toppled over but due to his quick reflexes, he adjusted his body and leaned backwards, at the same time; he also held the person that was falling by the waist. It was effortless work for him compared to his daily workout routine and rigorous exercise. He swiftly scanned the surrounding and regained his senses.

The soft voice that he heard belonged to the busty lady that he had bumped into who was currently shouting in frustration and evident anguish. She seemed to be pissed off about something, what exactly it was Barnes had no clue.

"I am sorry; I really didn't mean to knock you. Kindly accept my apologies."

Out of habit the words came out of Barnes' mouth before he had fully set his eyes on this lady that he had bumped into.

"Are you hurt? Did I hurt you anywhere? May I have a look?"

He was asking feeling fully concerned as he fumbled around to hold the lady who was now embedded in his chest as they both seemed locked in an embrace. He couldn't clearly see her face because her long lustrous strands of beautiful black hair that flowed all the way to her back we're covering her face and thus obstructing his line of sight to properly see her face.

Instinctually he had wrapped his arms around her when he bumped into her to prevent her from veering off and falling down thus further hurting herself.

"Let go of me, you are squeezing the life out of me, it hurts. Let go of me you moron."

The young lady protested as she struggled to free herself from his embrace.

"Okay fine I'll let go of you, I just didn't want you to end up on the ground embarrassed and sprawled in an undignified manner that isn't appropriate for a lady like you. Please accept my apologies but I only have good intentions."

Barnes solemnly told her as she struggled to pry herself free from his embrace. He let go of her, or it's rather safe to say he stopped hugging her. When she was finally free of his forced and unsolicited embrace; she stood and glared at him, eyes flashing.

"She seems like a whole lot of trouble" he thought to himself,

"However her baby face tells me otherwise. She seems to be infuriated which makes her even more adorable. Her pouting lips, the phoenix shaped eyes, the busty cleavage that is popping out of her chest; to simply put it, her body is one of those perfect specimens; I want to see her with all these clothes off. I'd love to break her and subdue her. I have to make her mine"

All these thoughts kept running through Barnes' mind and they never surfaced nor showed on his visage not even for a moment. And thus the lady standing before him wasn't privy to them. Otherwise if she was, her ranting wouldn't have been the only thing Barnes would have had to endure.

"I said I'm sorry, I apologized and I'm willing to do it again. I really got blinded by the sun shining directly in my face and didn't see you coming; it's the reason why this accident happened."

Barnes Bronson tried to explain himself to the beautiful young lady in order to save himself from the dagger looks that she was throwing at him.

"My name is Barnes Bronson, this is not a pleasant way to meet but I'll still say nice to meet you."

Bronson shyly extended his hand to the lady to offer greetings and to introduce himself

"Hmph what makes you think that I want to shake hands with the likes of you? And who asked for your name? Do you think I'm interested in knowing who you are? It's not nice to meet you and I'm not pleased at all"

the lady who was angrily staring at Barnes refused to shake hands with him and continued staring at him in the face with anger, her arms folded around her chest.

"I guess I'll have to move on then. Have a nice day stranger" Barnes hurriedly made a detour around the beautiful lady that was ferociously staring at him like an angry lioness whose cubs were in danger.

He quickly excused himself from the situation that seemed to be getting out of hand as time went by.

"I don't remember authorizing you to leave! Have I heard your apology yet?" the lady snapped as she got in his way to intercept him and bar him from escaping.

"In what other way do you want me to apologize? I already told you I'm sorry! What more we're you expecting?'' Barnes wittily retorted while stretching his hands towards this damsel to steer her out of his way and to ensure another unintended collision doesn't occur.

"Don't lay your filthy hands on me. Don't you dare touch me with your hands again! Or else…"

"Or else what will happen? Or else what? What are you going to do about it?" He asked in a mocking tone.

The two young individuals; man and woman questioned and sharply replied each other's remarks. Their verbal exchange was starting to get heated. This situation was quickly escalating into an ugly predicament. The noise was drawing attention and soon enough that alley would be filled with students from the A-level section and some few bystanders of which some teachers might even be among those drawn towards this mess.

Creating and being at the epicenter of noise and commotion in Lumos academy was similar to a player drawing agro to themselves in a MMORPG game. It was a plain recipe for disaster.

Barnes was very well aware of the consequences of this commotion that was brewing. He had tried as much as possible to neutralize and placate the other party with soothing words and actions. He had even offered a sincere and earnest apology to them. The young lady just decided to choose a more chaotic way to resolve this by causing a ruckus.

He wasn't going to back down and let her show no consideration for his dignity as a gentleman, his family name and most importantly the ego he had tried to keep in check by apologizing. Heck he had even gone ahead and introduced himself to her; hoping to bridge the gap with pleasantries, she opted to burn the bridge; the olive branch that was extended towards her was used to ignite this fire that was fast consuming them.

Her name to him was still a mystery; she had deliberately refused to introduce herself to him and even when he took the initiative to introduce himself to her, she treated this gesture with contempt and declined to shake hands with him.

As if she wasn't satisfied with the results; she went ahead and barred his way as he tried to walk away. She was definitely baying for blood. She wasn't giving him any face. And for the Bronson family; face was something that had to be given to them. It didn't matter if you we're in the wrong or if they were in the wrong. You had to give them face.

The Bronson family had a lot of power they wielded; they had control and active participation in trade, politics, transport, education, and medical sector; they had made immense contributions towards the prosperity, growth and development of Orange County in the eastern region of Mwavura. Many people in the civil service sector owed them favors and some their lives.

Many investments and ventures in the private sector were backed by funding and moral support from the Bronson family; this gave them a hold over most of the business sector and gave them a stronghold in making certain important decisions for the county.

One of the reasons why Bronson had gone ahead to mention his family name to her was first of all to let her know that they could settle whatever had happened amicably and second of all she couldn't afford to create a ruckus about it. But she decided to choose the hard way. To Bronson it seemed like she wasn't aware of their family status and thus went ahead to create this commotion because if she knew the family name she wouldn't have the guts to blow things out of proportion and create a mess for herself because she was bound to end up the one at fault.

As their exchange continued; more people kept gathering around and it was drawing unwanted attention. Luckily there hadn't been any teacher that had passed by the alley and there were only students thus the situation was still manageable and under the wraps. It could be settled with a third party pacifying the two warring parties.

"What are you folks doing here? Why are you all gathered here like you've spotted some treasure? What is happening here?'' a deep and raspy voice bellowed at the back of the crowd. It originated from the mouth of a 6ft 9in tall lanky handsome guy. His standing posture was an intimidating one. He towered like a colossal titan over the crowds of people gathered around the pair that was arguing. He craned his neck over them to look at the center of the crowd. He saw the faces of the two people that were surrounded; both were familiar faces and he personally knew one of them. He elegantly strutted akin to a crane and made his way through the crowd to the center of it.

Twaa! A slap landed on his back and he turned to look at the fool that had dared to slap him and instead saw his long time friend; Abdul-razack.

"You fool, I would have kicked you so hard you would have lost a whole set of teeth from the impact. How are you doing? How is this school treating you?" Barnes jokingly said while grabbing his buddy for a bear hug.

Abdul was taller than him by three heads. He was close to 7.2 feet tall and had a lanky appearance but Bronson nevertheless lifted him off the ground in the bear hug. Both of them were very happy because they had met again. In O-level they were the best of friends in the final year and nothing would come between them. Most teachers and students thought they were blood brothers which wasn't the case.

"Okay enough is enough. Put me down now. I command you or else....."

"Or else what? Or else what? Just make a mistake and i will make you tour through the walls of Jericho or slam you on the ground."

"Hahaha Bro it isn't necessary. Okay kindly put me down. My babe will see me and say i am weak and therefore I can't defend her. She might chuck me."

"Barnes please put me down and i will do anything you say." Abdul pleaded with his friend in a sorry pitiful voice.

"Anything i say?" Barnes echoed his friend's pledge with a smirk on his face.

"Anything you say." Abdul affirmed and sighed with relief after Bronson put him down. He wanted to smack his head and run off like in the good old days but resisted from it. He looked at his friend and noticed that his sight was focused on something. When he followed his friend's eyesight, it landed on his classmate.

"Abdul tell me what that babe's name is, who is she? You made a vow to do anything I say. And this is just one of them." Bronson excitedly told his friend while he was looking at the beauty he bumped into.

"She is called ..." Abdul hesitated in answering and decided to play a prank on his bro. I won't tell you that. It's breaching my vow. I said i will do anything you said, not tell you everything you want to know." Abdul said with an evil grin and sprinted off into the A-level block.

"Catch me if you can and then I will tell you." Abdul shouted from a distance and ran off.
