Chapter 99 - Favor

"There's a small box in my study. It's black with a combination key. Please give it to your father." Han Huang didn't know if it's already confiscated by the police or not but he's hoping it's still there.

Han Meixiu didn't answer for a time.

"It's not really something important for you, but it maybe for your father." He continued.

Since they're already talking about her father, she wanted to ask some questions.

"I will look into it but, grandfather…Please answer my questions.."

Old Han suddenly looked at the young woman seated on the small chair beside the bed. He never thought she would actually ask anything from him.

Based from what he remembered, he always felt she distanced herself from the Han Family. Yes, she attended their few family gatherings but she's always in the corner alone in her own world seemingly observing people around. After staying for an ample time, she would bid her goodbye.

During their few interactions, she seldom spoke. Maybe because he wasn't interested before for whatever it was that's why he normally dismissed her after exchanging few words.

During his few days in the prison, he still couldn't believe that the quiet little girl in the past would be the reason of the Han Family's fall. He was fuming with rage and cursing her. He wanted to normally retaliate and ask someone to do it but who would have thought nobody visited him.

His resentment slowly died down day by day. It changed into hopelessness and despair. Later on, affected his body.

He initially wanted to contact her to ask for her help to get him out of jail but changed his mind. He's actually safer inside the prison compared outside.

"Go ahead." He answered.

"Why did you deceive and imprisoned my mother?" Without any bit of hesitation she asked. There was no anger or any hint of resentment on her voice. There was just plain curiosity on it.

The old man became conflicted as he looked at his granddaughter. He could actually make up excuses for his actions but knowing the power behind her, a simple lie could be easily detected and the consequences would not be good for his dear remaining life.

Although he's on the edge of giving up his entire existence, the moment this young lady called her 'grandfather', a ray of thin silk thread of hope emerged inside his heart.

There's still one. One person he could consider 'family'. Someone who cared. He might be deceiving himself by thinking that way but it's the only way he could save his sanity. At least if ever he would pass away, there would be someone who would visit his grave. Or if he wanted to hope more, someone would arrange his funeral after dying.

"I wanted to lure out your father." He answered.

'Liu Zijian said that already.' Han Meixiu inwardly said to herself. She was expecting a somewhat different answer. But then again, maybe it was the only reason.

"But he didn't show up, right? Why did he leave in the first place?" She asked again. There was no record about it since the report only contained details about her mother.

Han Huang's body shook a little and the young woman noticed it but didn't blatantly react. She waited for the reason.

"The reason is in the box." He finally answered after he was able to stabilize himself. It's too complicated to explain.

Han Meixiu normally wanted to ask if it's related to black.com but remembering the warning of her husband to not casually blurt out the name, she didn't dare to ask anymore. She simply nodded and stood up.

"I'm sorry."

She heard her grandfather muttered as she walked towards the door.

She thought it was because of what he did to her mother so she answered.

"You shouldn't say sorry to me, but to my mom."

The Old Han shook his head.

"I married you to Chen Dewei."

Han Meixiu who was originally about to hold the door knob abruptly turned around.

"I'm married to Liu ZIjian!"

What was her grandfather taking about? She confusedly looked at him.

Before Han Huang started, he took a deep breath.

He told her everything. From the time he found out she made a scene to the time he executed his ridiculous plan and the Han Family's arrest.

There was no exact word to describe what Han Meixiu felt.

She was in a complete shock.

She never thought she would be treated that way by her own grandfather. She never did anything wrong the moment she came to the Han Family.

The manipulation's level was beyond her acceptable reason.

Was it because she escaped in that manner?

"Han Mingxia also escaped her supposed to be engagement, right? But why it was only me whom…you forcefully married to him?"

What if she wasn't under the protection of the Liu Family? What could have happen?

"It's unfair.." She muttered. She knew she basically didn't grow up in the main house unlike Han Mingxia and she didn't have her parent's protection back in the main house.

Han Mingxia has her father although he was labelled as a 'failure' by their grandfather, he could still at least speak in behalf of her. But she has no one.

'Cousin was right.' She concluded. When Zhang Yu asked for the help of the Liu Family, he indeed saved her.

She then thought of visiting her cousin to express her gratitude.

"Third Young Master Chen, wanted you." Her grandfather continued that made Han Meixiu became confused again.

"What?" She wanted to argue that even Chen Dewei wanted to marry her, their grandfather could have asked her. It's her f*#^ng life!

Han Huang looked at her with an expression of resignation. He saw how hurt the young woman with what she heard but didn't express any unsightly and unacceptable behavior.

He admonished himself. If only he wasn't blinded by his ambition and greediness, he could have seen how wonderful the old Zhang couple raised their granddaughter.

"Your cousin, Li'er. She's probably in danger…" He said as his worries flooded on his eyes.

"Please don't ask me to save her. I can't." She firmly said and walk towards the door after bowing. She didn't look back.
