The two women silently rode the car to the nearby hospital. One of the twins already made an appointment which was less than an hour from now thus they only need to show up at the given time.
After Mr. Liu instructed their escorts, he told Madam Liu to call as soon as something went wrong.
"Meixiu dear, tell me. After your grandparents passed away, who took care of you every time you're sick?" Madam Liu was curious about Han Meixiu's life before she got married. Although they talked few times before, she seldom talked about this kind of thing. She mostly told her about her time with Li Xioazhi.
"I seldom got sick in the past Mommy Yi. But if ever I caught some colds or cough Xiao Xiao helped me." She answered. "I also do the same for her." She continued. She remembered how they sometimes fought because one of them didn't want to take medicine.
Madam Liu looked at the young woman whose thought became distant as she's probably thinking a memory from her past. She took her hand and gently held it. The gesture made Han Meixiu's attention focus on Madam Liu.
"What if she's not around?"
"Hmm, I just slept and normally the next day I'm better." She simply answered not really giving a thought about the question since it's pretty normal for her to do so.
"How will you eat?" She knew that in their dormitory, foods weren't provided. Though there's a kitchen where students could basically cook.
"If I really can't cook a simple noodle, then I always use delivery." It actually happened but it wasn't because she was extremely ill, she was just too lazy to move.
"If you don't feel well, tell me always okay? If not me, at least inform Little Zi." She was thinking that the two girls were just attending to themselves and her heart ache once again. She understood why in every conversation they had in the past, she always mentioned Li Xiaozhi. It was because they've been through a lot together.
Han Meixiu simply nodded. She felt that Madam Liu was becoming emotional so she didn't utter a single word afterwards. For her, those times weren't really that significant to incur Madam's Liu precious attention.
But after she felt the care of the older woman, it gave her a sense of comfort. Her eyes subtly glittered and tried to lower them to avoid further contact.
Being part of the Liu family gave her an opportunity to really experience the true sense of having a family.
Even though Mr. Liu didn't talk that much, she could feel the care underlying in every gesture he did. She could also sense how the entire family love each other. She wanted to have the same kind of family of her own.
Thinking about the abrupt question her Mommy Yi asked earlier, she wondered if the older lady was indirectly asking her if she's pregnant.
When her thought slowly inclined towards that particular topic she started to worry.
Having an irregular menstrual period meant it would be hard to detect if she's pregnant or not. Was it the reason why they have to visit the doctor as soon as possible?
What if she really has a problem? What if she couldn't get pregnant at all? Would the Liu family abandon her? Would Mommy Yi distance herself?
She looked at her Mommy Yi who was still holding her hand and softly caressing it as if telling her not to worry.
Madam Liu's attention was in the road. It was clear that her thoughts were somewhere else.
What would her Mommy Yi think if she wouldn't be able to conceive?
Maybe the older woman felt her gaze, she slightly turned her head and gave her a smile.
"Don't worry." She simply said. She thought that the younger woman was probably worried about the check up. Although her guess wasn't entirely correct, it's somewhat related to what Han Meixiu was thinking.
The latter wasn't worried about the check up itself, she's worried about the possible effect of the result if it would turn out to be unfavorable.
When they arrived at the hospital, they were escorted to the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department.
Since they arrived a little earlier, they were asked to wait for a while. Han Meixiu already developed her skills of observing people around when she's idle caught a somewhat familiar image.
It was a small stitched near the left pocket of the uniform. It's almost unnoticeable because the color of the thread used was also white. But since the nurse was constantly walking in front of her and stuffing her pen in that pocket, she noticed it.
It was a peony and it's white. She then looked at the other staff present and found out that indeed, stitched in their uniform was a white peony. But the hospital's name wasn't related to it. Though there's quite a big logo showing the hospital's name on their uniform, the small stitched image was clearly not made to be noticed right away.
She wanted to know if all the staff working have the same stitched image thus she excused herself and went out for a bit.
But looking around, she found out not everyone was having it.
She then thought that maybe it was the maker of the uniform. She might as well check later on if there exist a tailor shop named white peony and have almost the same logo as the now nonexistent man power agency.
When she returned inside it was in time that her name was called. Together with Madam Liu, they entered the doctor's office.
The doctor was a middle aged lady and looked kind. When both of them sat down, Han Meixiu noticed that same peony but not in the doctor's uniform, it was on her desk. It was a paper weight. But what shocked her was the engraved image on the center of the flower. That "B" image that she drew for her cousin was there. Though it looked like an unimportant letter for other people, it was different for her.
Though she was successful diverting her attention to lessen her worry about the upcoming findings of her irregular period, she didn't want to encounter this kind of information now.
She sighed and focused answering the series of questions the doctor was asking her.
