Omen's POV
Staring contest round #2.
Gosh, this game is really pumping me up. It was an intense fight, it's 3 versus 1. But I think I'm winning.
"Okay."
Maybe not.
"Before I tell you why I'm targeted," I took a deep breath and properly looked at each of them in the eye. "I should reveal who I am."
I took off my grey hat. Then, I placed it on the table before re-introducing myself.
"I am Kira Monrey. I was tasked to come here to find a letter and protect Sherlock. I'm sorry that I have failed to prevent such mishap from falling on you, Sherlock. That was unexpected."
You thought that I was revealing my real appearance, didn't you guys? Well, fat chance. There was no way I would really expose my true identity to characters. The consequences would be irreparable since I was never a part of their world to begin with.
"If yah don't mind me asking, can Ah ask what sort of letter are you finding?" Amyus asked right off the bat. He folded his arms and leaned forward on the table.
"Not at all. However, I can't tell you much since I don't know the contents of it. It should be a letter that is either addressed to me or the name of my partner, Micheal Johnathan Evans." I thought for a moment before continuing. "There may be a diamond-shaped seal or a diamond mark on the letter."
"If we help you find this letter, does your task count as finished?"
I pretended to be hurt by Sherlock's question.
"I already come clean to all of you and all you wanted was to have me to leave as soon as possible? Ouch."
"No, I didn't mean..."
"It's alright." I interrupted him with a light laugh.
"Unfortunately,"
I looked at them seriously.
"In order for my task to finish, Sherlock needs to be in one piece. Physically and mentally. Besides, the day you got injured, I got an anonymous call about threatening your life. I cannot leave until that threat is eliminated."
"But you were targeted just now." Virginia pointed out.
Fair point.
"I almost forgot about that one." I smiled sheepishly while scratching the back of my head.
"My organisation's enemies are after me and my partner. Unfortunately, they drag Sherlock into it because it will weaken us. The ambush just now, I believe that wasn't an attack but a..."
"A measure to test out your abilities." Sherlock blurted out.
"Yes. Most likely the person behind the threat in the letter is the same as the one in the carriage. I cannot say any more than this because it can endanger all your lives and the people close to you."
There was an air of solemnity as they processed my words.
"Are you alone?" Amyus suddenly asked.
"Pardon?" I was puzzled at the question.
"Is your partner with you in this task?"
I shook my head, a little confused as to where the conversation was going.
"Ah assume that you may need help in protecting Sherlock. Also, you may need help in finding out the mastermind behind all this."
I took a moment to ponder his words.
I only have 3 chances to use magic in this world and I used up one just now. But this might be a good opportunity to see if Sherlock can still use his mind to crack this case despite his amnesia. Maybe... that will enable him to regain his memories.
"You are right. If this isn't too much, I would like to invite you guys to see this circus."
I placed the tickets on the table before sliding them across to the recipients.
"Isn't this the circus that just came by Farnham?" Virginia clarified once she took a look at the tickets.
"You're suspecting this circus, aren't you?" Sherlock was the next one to ask.
"Yes to both. The reason is that this circus, Ecstasy, seems to be popular among the folks around here. I found the name and their origins odd so it should be worth scouting out."
I leaned back and shrugged.
"But these are just my speculations. I don't have any proof and so far, nothing happened with the circus around."
"Well, that's not true." Amyus pointed out. We gave our full attention to him at this point. "Criminal activity around here has gone a bit stale. It feels too peaceful around here so Ah think it won't hurt to look into this matter. Besides, we can have a little fun."
"Also, I think it would be good to get to know each other more, specifically Kira." Virginia added.
"Oh! Don't forget Matty too. I'm sure he won't mind following us." Sherlock cut in. I passed him the last ticket so that he can pass to Matty.
"Can I ask something?" I inquired politely.
"You already did." Envilia muttered to me through my mind. I fought to hit myself in the head.
"Go on." Amyus encouraged.
"Why did you guys accept my reasoning? It's a bit dubious, isn't it? For all you know I'm actually some shady person who may do harm to any one of you guys and I could be colluding with the clown just now..."
I trailed off, looking at them for the answer. I found it hard to believe that they just trusted me like that when I couldn't give them a proper answer. Everyone glanced at each other before cracking a smile.
"To be honest, Ah did check on you during the lessons since you are not local around here."
As expected of a master hunter.
"You definitely have unclear origins but everyone can agree that you don't have a motive against us, especially just now. Mah gut feeling just tells me to trust you and gut feelings are vital in any hunts."
"Thank you." I said quietly.
"It's the truth." Virginia said while her eyes twinkled in amusement. "Besides, going to the circus is also beneficial for Sherlock after so many days of bed rest."
I chuckled.
"Well, let's go to the circus tonight!" I pumped my hands in the air with determination.
