Chapter 26 - Birth of a Skald (Part Two)

*BOOM*

A big shadowy figure heavily fell on the dungeon boss with great momentum, producing a loud sound and a cloud of dust!

The dungeon boss and Dante haven't yet fully completed their battle cries. Its guttural growl was interrupted by the violent collision while Dante's roar was stuck in his throat by the surprise he had received.

There was a small dust cloud at the dungeon boss' position, but it wasn't enough for hiding the figure's big frame.

Niles was also staring at the scene with eyes like saucers. On the other hand, Dante was calmer compared to him.

Ulfred had been fighting against skeleton dogs until a few seconds ago. Dante had clearly seen the old man doing so. But now, he was on top of the dungeon boss and dealing it heavy blows, one after another. His every hit was breaking a large number of its bones.

There was also a thin layer of crimson mana around his body, similar to the one on the dungeon boss!

Only one thing could explain this situation. Ulfred's chain quest was somehow completed, and the reward of the quest was a hidden class!

*Boom*

*Boom*

*Baam*

The impact sounds continued to come from the small dust cloud. A few seconds later, the sounds died down.

Silence took place.

[Quest completed]

*Poof*

As soon as Dante heard the system's voice inside his head, the red skeleton dogs transformed into a large amount of red mist, and after that, the red mist immediately sucked into the ground in a few seconds.

Nothing happened to the surviving purple-lined pygmy skeletons, but they weren't trying to attack newcomers anymore. They started to run around aimlessly.

[The Lower Catacombs has been cleared successfully.]

[Bonesword obtained]

[Bonesword: A common sword that made of the sternum of the Giant Skeletons. A perfect weapon for a beginner.

Damage + Multiplication Factor: 70 + (1.2x~1.6x)

Durability: 60

Special Effects: Doesn't have]

Dante put the longsword and the rusty sword into his inventory before producing out the Bonesword.

Niles saw him do so but said nothing to stop him. He had a complicated expression on his face.

The Bonesword, as its name indicated, was a sword made of a large piece of bone. More appropriately, it was shaped by carving the sternum of a Giant Skeleton. Its whole body was milk-white and seamless.

When Dante finished looking at the system's interface -it was something he had done on the spur of moment-, he saw Ulfred walking toward him with the same Bonesword on his hand.

On the other hand, the dungeon boss was reduced to a pile of red-lined bones.

Dante had some doubts about the dungeon boss. It was physically much weaker than one would have expected from a dungeon boss. At first, he even thought that this skeletal monster wasn't actually the dungeon boss. When he thought about it more, he suspected that the true dungeon boss was in the room at the other end of the hall.

He started to worry about Nathaniel and Iona, but then, the dungeon boss cast that formidable skill, clearing his suspicions.

There was another strange point about the dungeon boss. It was a summoner, so this explained that why it was physically so weak. However, why did it have a sword in hand? What could a summoner do with a sword?

He decided to put these questions at the back of his mind. He could always ask them to Big Sis Mira.

After gulping down his saliva, Dante gave Ulfred a big smile, "I assume you have completed both the dungeon quest and the chain quest. Furthermore, you look like you are in tip-top condition. Tell me, the move you have just used... Was that a skill? What kind of class did you get? And how the hell did you completed the chain quest?"

Dante immediately threw him three questions in one breath. The old man's stat points were undoubtedly abnormal.

According to his speculations, in order to receive a chain quest, two factors were essential.

The first was a participant's innate qualities. Base stats, stat growth rates, personality and so on could be considered as innate qualities.

Old man Ulfred's innate qualities... All of them was absurd in a sense. Therefore, the hidden class he had gotten should be something really rare.

The second was the special actions.

In the first fight, Dante performed the same actions with Ulfred but didn't get the same quest as him. It was because of his innate qualities didn't meet the requirements of that specific chain quest.

Ulfred put back the Bonesword into his inventory. "I don't have the slightest idea about how the chain quest completed. As for what I have gained from the chain quest, you can look at it yourself. Be quick. We have more things to do."

The old man threw a glance at Niles. The guy looked like he was lost in his own thoughts and someone harmless.

Dante was puzzled after hearing the words of Ulfred.

He could understand that if the old man's quest completed after he had killed the dungeon boss, but it had completed before he killed the dungeon boss. That was strange.

Then he saw a screen popping out in front of his face.

'So you can even do things like this if you have mana.' He thought after a quick look at it.

[Chain quest completed]

[Rewards: Hidden Class Skald]

[The Bard is a hidden class specializing in music-based skills. The class is loosely based on the special magic that music holds in stories such as the Pied Piper of Hamelin. They use their artistic talents to induce magical effects.]

'Pied Piper of Hamelin?'

[Bardic songs are generally useful for buffing allies, weakening enemies, status effects, and occasionally damage.]

[A Bard also loves telling stories about legends and heroic deeds of other participants, spreading their legend.]

'Why is the system talking about Bards?'

[However, there is an abnormal existence among Bards. The Skald. The class is considered the most savage class among all the others. Only males are qualified to become a Skald.]

[A Skald doesn't sing. He makes his own music while fighting in bloody battles, with his bare hands and occasionally with weapons. Others cannot understand his music. His music is only for himself to enjoy.]

[A Skald doesn't buff his allies. He does not believe in numbers but only himself. Therefore, he buffs only himself.]

[And a Skald hates about hearing legends and heroic deeds about other participants. He only spreads his own legend that was borne out from countless bloody battles.]

[1 Class Skill obtained]

[Inner Savage - Level 1: Gives %20 strength bonus, -10% vitality penalty while this skill is active. 5 mana consumption per second]

'What did I just read?'

Dante's look at Ulfred changed instantly. Everything about The Skald Class was too impressive, and it sounded like it was an incredibly rare hidden class.

And this old looking and stoic-faced 'Skald' called him boss. He couldn't help but felt proud of himself.

"If you are done, we should go find Nathaniel and Iona," Ulfred said.

The old man's words have brought Dante himself.

Dante looked at Niles with furrowed brows. He seemed like he was a harmless newcomer now, but even so, Dante intended to take his life for what he had done so far.

He was about cut Niles into two halves with the bonesword just like that, but he heard a metallic sound, causing him to come to a stop.

*Clank*

The sound had come from the other end of the hall. A big metallic door was blocking the daylight now!

Then the entire place started to shake!

"What again?" Dante said in annoyance.

[Unique monster appeared!]

"Unique monster? Where?"

*Thud*

A few seconds later, something small dropped beside Dante. At first, he thought it was a small piece of rock that dropped from the hall's ceiling, but it wasn't.

Dante squated down and took the fist-sized thing in his hand.

It was an eye without lids, and the thing had a pair of bat wings!

Dante and Ulfred were dumbfounded. What was this thing?

"That can't be the unique monster, right?" Ulfred commented.

*Boom*

After a loud sound, the entire place started to shake even more violently as if an earthquake was happening, causing Dante to almost lose balance!

[Anomaly... de... tected!]

The system's sizzling sound was the salt of the events occurring one after another!

"Anomaly? What's going on? I don't understand a thing!"

As soon as Dante's words fell, something unthinkable happened on top of everything. 'A giant crack' opened in the floor, but it wasn't a simple crack in the hall, it was a crack in space!

In just a flash, Dante, Ulfred, Niles, all the mindless skeletons and some of the surviving newcomers sucked into it. They didn't even have the time for uttering a single word!
