Chapter 21 - Nobody knows you when you're down

Certain magical creatures, certain spells, enchantments and the like give off a certain amount of energy that, unless hidden by other magic, can easily be detected from a certain radius with a level of obvious to the magically sensitive that rivals a natural disaster. And like any other werecreature, the form Lucky shifted to was inherently more magical than her other form.

The shift itself released a lot of magical energy. Lucky still not being used to shifting yet was exhausted, terrified and confused. Cerberus, immediately understanding her disorientation, slowly approached her. "Hey, it's ok, do you remember me?"

Lucky first looked at Cerberus confused, but as she looked deeper into his eyes she felt herself compelled to recite an oath. "Lae svern ghoros jahus jikmadator (As above before was broken) jaka persvek wer oium batobot tepohaic thric tairais (now in the space that has no time) dronilnr ulnaus mrith wer lexri si tepoha renthisja (bind together with the words I've spoken) sia arcaniss ekess dout arcaniss lae dout sepa ekess sia sepa bind (my magic to your magic as your soul to my soul bind)."

With each breath Lucky exhaled frost which crystallized on Cerberus's coat and fell around them like fresh snow. Her form was truly terrifying with eyes that glowed bright blue like a glacier. She was almost invisible in her wintery surroundings, her scales reflecting the light like glittering snow. A blizzard was in her voice. Unphased by her spell and speech Cerberus calmly asked "Do you understand what just happened?"

Lucky bent her head down to rest it on the ground so that she was eye level with him. She looked at Cerberus still frightened, because she still felt very confused.

Cerberus's wolf form was similar to a subspecies of dire wolf having a distinctly larger build, more pronounced canine teeth and the characteristic longer fur around the neck and between the shoulder blades. His length and height rivaled a full grown grizzly bear, yet he stood there utterly dwarfed by Lucky's head. The frosty icicles on his fur contrasted with its color which was blacker than pitch. In human form Cerberus retained this gorgeous dark color in his hair. As a wolf he looked like a silhouette.

Understanding how disoriented Lucky was, Cerberus placed his paw on her nose and spoke a pleasant enchantment in another language. Zion, made curious by the incredible amount of magical energy released had been watching, hidden within in forest.

A fairy had shown up and Lucky was a frost dragon whom had just used magic only possible with familiars. What's more, Cerberus just spoke in the language of the Fae. The shade crawled out from Zion's shadow and levitated in front of the lich. It said something half in high elvish and half in fire sprite. Zion nodded briefly and disappeared deeper into the forest.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Contessa had definitely had worse days, but she still felt inadequately compensated. She also had no idea how she had suddenly appeared before Zion. She wasn't even familiar with the dimension she was currently in. There was snow everywhere and Zion's band of misfits. She recognized Corvis, and she'd heard about Cerberus though she had never met him in his human form. Lucky was a new edition, but none of this really interested her. She was hungry and nobody had bothered to leave her any blood before they'd all dispersed. She would have gone hunting, but eating animals she had long decided was beneath her. Not seeing any signs of civilization, she decided to summon Zion because walking around looking for food was really pointless when she could get Zion to do that for her.

Before Contessa could even start the summons Zion appeared coming out of the forest. Earlier Zion had used magic to rebuild the broken house, so Contessa watched from the window inside. Zion opened the door and set several things down on the table. Their shadow seemed to be doing something else. It was going through the drawers and cupboards looking for something. Zion said without even looking up "Did you even bother checking the fridge for food Contessa?"

Of course Contessa didn't check the fridge for food, why would she? What self respecting vampire even has a fridge? And who even needs one in this climate?

Zion walked over to the fridge and pulled out a few odd looking bottles. "I got these from a planet that has highly evolved blood feeders as the dominant species. They replicate this blood according to certain flavor profiles. These are a few rare types including Rh null. I've got other species here including Fae." Zion tossed a bottle over to Contessa.

Contessa begrudgingly took the blood drink and then, without hesitation asked "What's up with your shadow?"
