Chapter 16 - Chapter 9 Science and magic!

As Ghost opens opens the laboratory door a fire ball shoots out of the room. The fireball proceeds to circle around the laboratory then it starts to circle around Ghost!

It then flies straight up in the air and explodes like a firework. The burning ciders turn into the shape of a young teen.

The firework face shockingly starts to talk. "Welcome to my laboratory! Now you old fogies finally realise that the ultimate path is the fusion between the explainable and the unexplainable?"

"Cough, sorry to disappoint you but we aren't from the science division, but the magic division. I came here because I heard there was a scientist who went against the norm and might be able to help me create a brand new type of weapon."

Ghost tries to bullshit his way and flatter the egotistic youth into letting him in.

-This place might be able to actually create my dream designed weapon maybe this kid is actually correct. It's been plaguing fire mages on how to control the fire balls and yet he seemed to have already solved it with technology.-

"Ahh a person who believes me! Cough, I mean of course you came for my help who wouldn't want the great me to help them. If I made a weapon for even a S class they still would find their strength increased.,

"Heck one of my technology and magic weapons might even be able to make a B class able to fight a A class!"

The youth looks shocked at first but then slowly as he rambles on grows more and more arrogant. At the peak of his bragging a girl with flames for hair and a spear the size of her comes out and karate chops his head.

"Ignore this brat who dreams bigger than he can do. In theory he should be able to make a weapon like he said, but sadly no one gives him any funds to experiment or materials to mess with.,

,So I doubt he can make a weapon to your liking muchless a weapon that will let you cross ranks."

"Hey Amber, don't tell them that if you weren't so honest I could of fooled someone in giving me some funds."

The cinders start to part to reveal a teen standing on a hovering board. Obviously the teen still.hasn't figured out how to actually make mana lip sync with him.

"This was my first step into becoming famous as long as I managed to make a decent weapon and tell him to tell his classmates."

Amber suddenly starts to release a pressure that is even higher than the shapeshifter from earlier, but it's well hidden and the youth in the lab coat doesn't seem to be able to feel it.

Cold sweat starts to drip off Ghosts forehead underneath his fake face thankfully the mask hides it's so Amber doesn't see it.

"This one is a bit to strong for you to get away with scamming him with your flashy opening. If you really made him a weapon and it wasn't strong enough then all your toys would be broken in the process of calming him down."

The girl called Amber obviously can tell that our candidate is strong and probably released the pressure as a warning.

"Really? He doesn't look that strong to me. But if you think it isn't a good idea than I'll listen to you. My guest please come in and at least peruse my creations. Who knows maybe you might just find something you think is worth investing in."

"Before we talk about business why don't you introduce yourself first?" Ghost tries to be as patient as possible with the younger scientist as possible.

"Oh yeah, my bad this lovely lady is my assistent Amber. She specializes in fire magic and has a deep understanding of mana to help me fuse it with my science."

The fiery women does a curtsy bow while sometimes flickering in the wind. This young lady night not actually be a human but instead be a rare fire elemental.

"It's too bad that she isn't strong and only understands theories. But, if she could put her theories to practice I doubt she would spend time helping with with my creations. So I guess i got lucky."

Ghost stares at Amber in shock, but all Amber does is increase the pressure and puts a finger to her lips in the shhh motion.

"That's great and all but i was asking about you not her. Who introduces there assistant in such fevor instead of themselves!"

The teen seems to be shocked that someone cares more about him then his hot assistant.

"Let me give you some advice more people would be interested in you the creator and owner than your helpers."

"Me?! I'm just a kid with a dream that no one believes is possible. I feel like if it wasn't for Amber I would've given up and just made mechs for the drivers to fuel funds for making a army of robots."

The teen casually reveals that his future without Amber would of probably been much richer yet also boring. I can agree with this sentiment as I too am forced to show my viewings to others for money.

"But robots and mechs are so boring and easy, so I wanted to change the system and create something brand new! Also the strongest robot that can be made is A* and I can only make them rarely."

Ghost's face looks more and more annoyed under his face mask. He seems to be extremely annoyed by how bad this teen is at business.

"Kid I didn't ask you for your life's story. I was asking for you name, also you probably shouldn't mention your talents for any other field than your selling."

Ahh yes one shouldn't get to personal when it involves their livelihood and instead should just have a business mentality.

"People will just want to either buy a mech or kidnap you to make their army. You should instead brag about your new inventions and innovations. Like the fireball for instance, it was a great opening to show mages not just a flashy opening."

The preteens face lights up at the mention of his toy being interesting. It seems he is another one of those creators that has made gold yet doesn't know it.

"Really? You actually think someone would be interested in buying my flame manipulation tool? It was just a toy I made out of boredom while I was trying to make something much more powerful."

-I give up in asking this kid for his name, does he have adhd or something?-

"Yes, it would sell well to lower ranking mages and if it can control more than just fireballs it might sell well to every fire mage. Let me look at it to see your craftsmanship."

"But, I have more things that are far better than this toy. Wh-" Amber bops him on the head yet again and takes out a glove to show Ghost. He carefully observes it and it's magical seals that make a code.

"Can you use it for me?" Ghost asks Amber deciding it would be for the best that he ignores the kid. She says nothing and instead starts to chant as the glove starts to light up in Ghost's eyes.

It starts to get brighter and brighter as more and more symbols start to appear in the circle that normally wouldn't exist. As the spell gets complete the fireball appears on top of the glove.

"Do you need me to make it move or is this enough?" She asks a dazed Ghost who is fully immersed in studying the new symbols.

"Huh? Oh, yes please make it move in each direction for a second!" The fireball starts to move, but Ghost isn't looking at that instead he is staring intently at the gloves as multiple magic symbols activate with each change in direction.

Ghost takes out a drop of blood and turns into a needle that pierces into one of the direction changing symbols.

The fireball suddenly can't move towards the right, another pierce and it can't go up. Yet another destroyed and it can't go down, then it loses its ability to go backwards.

"This is well made destroying one of the controls doesn't end the magic instead it just loses its direction interesting."

"So this toy adds commands to the magic code that aren't originally in the magic for directions? Couldn't you simply add the code into the spell directly and making this toy useless?"

Amber stares at Ghost in shock and pauses to think about it for a second.

"Yes you could do that, but I don't think it would be as easy as using this. It would make casting spells even harder than it already is. I think this is still useful for mages of the same rank as the spell."

Also mages already use various equipment to increase their strength just like how a knight as their armor and a rogue their daggers.

"Does this only work with the fireball spell or does it work with more fire spells? Also, can you only make these types of items for fire magic or are there other versions for the other basic element spells?'

Amber stops for a second seeming to ponder over the issues of this new weapon and how it's possible to improve it.

"The glove works for a couple other spells, but in theory it should be able to work with most spells."

Naturally as they are a low budget team their so some quality control issues, but at least they have multiple people double checking the final product.

"Sadly the materials of them are not strong enough to use most middle tier magic and up. If we improved the quality of them than we can definitely use it for mid tier spells. I don't know how expensive or plausible it would to make a high tier version."

Ghost starts to explain them the business side of things and how well their product could work in a perfect market. "Well having a version that is cheaper and only works for beginner spells and have a higher quality more expensive version is smart."

"Magic is a class that gets more and more expensive the farther you walk down it. Sadly as of right now most of your customers are probably not beginners since they were summoned for a reason. D class people aren't treated well right now and those people would be your only customers"

He slowly starts to realize that the market they have isn't perfect and not everyone that's interested in the product will be willing to pay for it.

"Well as you probably can tell we used a special code for the magic to make it be able to move at will. So in theory as long as the same code works for the other elements it shouldn't be too hard to make different versions."

"But the experimenting used to figure out how to input them into fire spells was expensive enough. If again we had enough funds we could probably manage to create other versions."

-How many valuables do I have left, since the headmaster is paying for pretty much everything including my sister's healing costs… I think it might be worth it to give them most of it I feel like something interesting will be created by these two.-

"OK! How about this I'll give you some research funds to pull you off the ground and talk to the headmaster to be able to advertise your products in the phoenix division!"

You would think that the principal would be interested in this strange new way to make weapons. This might be a breakthrough that the current humanity needs.

"I'll also give you some materials I've collected over the years. So, once you're confident in using them I want you to make me a weapon."

"That would be gre-" Amber stops the kid from talking and starts to debate with him in a whispering tone that Ghost can't hear.

"What gives it seems like a great deal. You were always going on about not having any funds and us needing a investor, yet when we find one don't let him invest."

"Don't you think he is giving in and is willing to pay for us to easily He even is willing to help us advertise to some of the richest customers. You don't find it a bit weird? Look at his badge it's only a F class archer yet he feels stronger than most of the teachers."

The kid starts to whisper louder and louder while Amber seems to get angrier and angrier.

"What would you know! You only know theories how would you know how strong he is? And so so what if he's actually strong, didn't he say he would ask the headmaster for help."

"That just means he has connections, which also means he probably has more money then someone his actual rank." Towards the end it gets loud enough for Ghost to be able to hear again.

"Sigh, how about this you two can continue showing me your creations and if I find something I can use then I'll help you."

The unnamed teen seems to not be the leader of this group even though he is the creator and instead it's the stronger assistant.

Ghost seems to be able to tell as well because he is pandering to her instead of the teen.

"If I don't find anything that I think will be useful to me than I'll just show this place to some mage friends. Maybe they will invest into you guys after seeing these gloves."

"Deal!" The chirpy black haired kid instantly agrees before Amber can deny anything. "Follow me in I have plenty of toys that I made before the school stopped funding me."

He brings Ghost towards a set of items that barely radiat any mana. First he takes out a shield and gives it to Ghost.

Ghost activates it and a energy shield surrounds his body. He tries to move around with it on, but it feels constraining and a bit claustrophobic.

Ghost throws it at amber and says, "here take it and activate it let me see how strong the defence is."

"And why should I trust you in hitting me. What if you overestimate the shield and destroy it with ease, than you continue onwards and hits me?"

"That just means this shield isn't made well enough and do you want it to be you or do you want it to be the kid?"

'Neither follow me there are targets that you can use to test it's defence."

Amber takes Ghost and the still hidden Rainte towards the back courtyard where there is a open field with nothing but various targets.

She then attaches the shield onto a statue and activates it. The kid finally catches backup to them carrying the rest of the toys.

"Guy's don't leave me all of a sudden and how could you forget to take the rest of them odds are you would want to test them out here as well. I'm going to warn you those aren't statues. but robots! One of them is even the only A* robot that I've ever created."

"If I end up hitting it after piercing the shield will it get mad at me?" Ghost asks prepared for a intense fight if it does awaken.

"What of course not why would i make a robot that I can't control that's idiotic. They won't awaken unless I tell them to not even the A* can do that. Hmph do you doubt my craftsman ship that much?"

The kid looks very annoyed and shocked that Ghost does not trust him at all.

"Fine, I don't know much about robots, but I do know something about slave magic and that is the better the slave the more it can think."

Ghost attempts to use his useless knowledge about magic to help improve the teens technology.

"There is slave magic that can wipe memory and make them fight off instinct, but there's even better magic that can make them perfectly obedient yet have their fighting strength stay the same."

I wonder what element the slave magic is? It is probably the death element because reasons.

"Who knows maybe your robots can't break into S because they don't have any thoughts of their own."

"Hmph, don't tell me how to do my job. I understand a lot more about robot science than you!"

He seems to be extremely angry at the fact that Ghost questioned his craftsmanship.

"I also know more about the history of it that you and what happened in the past isn't good. Creating intelligent robots is forbidden and also the fastest way to make a stronger robot. Now hit it."

Ghost punches out at full force towards the shield, but he didn't have speed or momentum before hitting it.

Yet with the only B class force it crushes the shield and hits towards the robot behind it. Ghost continues onwards at full force knocking over the robot.

"You call this quality work? It can barely be called a C class defensive device and unlike the gloves I can't see how this can continue to evolve."

This isn't even mentioning the fact that it limits the movement of the person wearing it. Which the actual shields for mechs probably didn't have as a problem.

"Heck there is barely any mana in this yet your so proud of it? It probably isn't even a upgrade to the stronger defensive shields on your mechs."

Ghost looks at the crushed shields components with disdain and crushes it underneath his foot.

"Hey you didn't have to crush it like that I could've at least looked into its logs and look at what went wrong!" The kid looks mad, but it's unknown if it's about the insulting of his work or the crushing of his work.

"Well shouldn't you have connected it wirelessly to the internet so that it could still send you it's data even even I crushed it in one punch?"

"Oh, that's actually a great idea why didn't I think of that?" The kid decides to continue onwards and brings over a gun like tool. "Here point at the robot and fire it. If you didn't break the shield you could of used it to test the strength of these things."

"The shield wasn't just to weak it was also very constraining. The reason why people would want to use a energy shield instead of armor is because they shouldn't feel constrained yet your shield did the opposite."

"It felt very unnatural and even worse than just wearing some strong armor. The only other use for it would for it to be hidden, but again it was obvious when activated and deactivated."

Ghost points the gun like weapon and shoots it at the robot he punched earlier. The weapon starts to build up energy at the tip of it's nozzle, but takes forever to build up power. After firing it it only manages to knock down the robot and doesn't even manage to dent it.

"This is another failing grade weapon while the beam it releases is fast it takes forever to build up enough energy and is quite obvious when it's about to fire."

'"So, even though it looks fast it's actually really easy to dodge. The damage for that long wait was only B as well might be an interesting toy to a D class not very useful for C class an useless B class and up. Let's check how durable it is."

Ghost clenches and with a bit of force it gets crushed into fragments. While these weapons are obviously not as well designed as the gauntlets from before Ghost really shouldn't be destroying them.

"Hmm, a beginner wind blade spell can destroy it as well so let change it to being useless against a C class and only useful for D class. If you include that failure of a shield it would be a okay combo for civilian use against weak monsters. What left?"

The kid looks thunderstruck and tears could be seen welling up in his eyes as if his entire life is lie.

"How could all my inventions be so bad? I've strived to create the most convenient and strongest things possible."

"The shield is the strongest a human use shield can go and the gun is the strongest I could make a miniature weapon be. Here this is my proudest invention a teleporter!"

He gives Ghost, whose eyes light up with interest, the teleporter who immediately activates it and waits for the teleportation to happen.

Which a couple seconds latter does indeed happen but he barely teleports away a could of feet.

Ghost looks extremely disappointed and sighs. "This is also useless, sadly, it takes too long to teleport and you can't move whilst activating. All of this wouldn't matter if it could go farther an a few feet but it looks like I went the farthest it would take me."

The kid looks heartbroken and doesn't even take out his last invention that looks like a cube. It's obvious that the teleporter was his pride and joy.

Ghost walk towards the cube wanting to finish everything to the end and hoping he might find something salvageable in this misguided kid's inventions.

"Whats this?" Ghost asks Amber since he figured the kid wouldn't want to talk about anything right now.

"That? Well it's pretty useless, so even though he took it out he didn't want to show it to you. All it can do is change into various shapes and objects. There is nothing useful about it for anything other than that. Just imagine what shape you want it to become."

Ghost makes it change into a dagger which it does, but the dagger is dull and unsharpened. Than the dagger turns longer and then shorter.

"Interesting if this could be made to make an actually strong weapon than I can invest in this. But how would we make it able to turn into the exactly right proportioned elements?"

"How about on the final version of this you make a shackled AI to control it. And you give it the data of a plethora of minerals so that it can change as the user asks it to?"

The kids face lights up like a christmas tree and suddenly starts to mutter underneath his breath.

He suddenly claps his hands and says, "thats workable and might just be doable, but it currently does not change its atoms to make the new item it's just a illusion and a fake…"

He stops to contemplate a way to fix his creation and just stands there with a blank expression on his face. His expression finally changes as he seems to gain some life in him.

"But, I think I can actually make something like that! As for the shackled AI that is also workable, but I'll only make one of them for your weapon instead of it being a inclusive thing."

"This will lower the odds of it breaking it's shackle and being a unshackled AI. So I won't be breaking to many laws of robotics."

Ghost takes out two spatial rings and moves some of the contents from one to the other.

"Here this is most of the precious minerals that i've collected over the years. You can use this to help increase the robots data bank and who knows maybe one of these will help you make my weapon. There is also precious materials that might be worth something to someone."

He casually hands them some very expensive materials and heads towards the exit. Honestly your weapon is probably the second most important item you can own.

"Thank you for everything that you have done and pointing out the right path for me."

He seems extremely thankful and sorry for all his failed inventions.

"I've always said that I wanted to fuse magic and science after coming back home, but the only real fusion item I've made was a couple of toys."

"I see now that all of my so called inventions are just science experiments with a bit of magic here and there."

He looks towards Amber with regret painted on his face. It seems he realized that he wasn't accepting her point of view enough in his experiments.

"Amber, I'm sorry that usually don't listen to you and take your advice. I'll try to listen to you more often since I'm only half of this project your the other half and my name is Sam."

Amber hugs the half a foot shorter Sam, while Ghost leaves the two alone and remembers the days when he was with Alicia helping her with magic, while she helped him understand himself a bit better.

He goes back to his dorm and goes to the underground training facility to release some pent up stress and emotions when suddenly a magic portal opens up underneath him.

"Not again! Why god of travel, why are you making me spend my entire life away from the planet i was born on! Curse you and your scemes to make this world stronger."

While Ghost was laminating his fate the portal opens up further and further. But, it isn't sucking him in but instead releasing something. Someone is being returned to this world right in front of him!

The figure slowly materializes in front of him with bat like wings and a pair of horns that make a crown.

The figure continues to materialize and show that is around Ghost's height and slowly reveals a feminine figure.

Her dainty feet are the first thing to start to come in to this world. Than her long and perfectly sculpted legs start to appear along with her nice sized hips.

Her tiny waist with a flat tummy along with a d cup sized bosom. Finally her neck and face start to appear with her pink lips and pitch black eyes with pink hair.

The face shockingly looks a lot like a older versions of Alicia, she even resembles a middle ground between her and her mom. "Ghost I missed you!"
