Chapter 2 - Side chapter 1 Another perspective.

The life that my brother and I have lived is a harsh one. I don't think that two children should grow up without their parents, but that's what ended up happening after I found the blue-haired little three-year-old crying out for help.

We grew up on the streets at a young age. At first, we grew up in an orphanage like every normal orphan, but the orphanage ended up kicking little Ghost out at the age of three. They said something about him being a demon and that they can't stand taking care of him anymore.

I left ended up leaving with him even though I wasn't forced out nor was I unwanted. I thought that no one should be left to die and even though I was only five at the time I thought that I would be able to take care of him.

Boy was I wrong my life, which I thought was hell at the time, became an actual hell. Going to bed without food may seem to be the worst, but in reality, it's the next day. If you have to work on an empty stomach, then no matter what you do will seem terrible.

All I had to keep me going was Ghost! He was such a little angel and still is. I don't know if I would have lasted out in the cruel world without him. The only problem was he wasn't as smart as I was when I was his age. At five he seemed a lot slower then I was at five.

To survive I had to steal food or money from people who probably didn't deserve to be stolen from. I was tempted to sell myself for his safety, but I just couldn't do it, in the end, no matter how hard I tried.

I couldn't stand the fact that I'd be separated from him if someone takes a fancy to me. He is the only thing that will keep me going and if you would take him away for a long period of time I don't think I could live my life anymore.

I hope we can continue our brother-sister relationship forever and ever! When I look at him trying his best to help his older sister I can't help but smile at him.

He has told me time after time he wants to work too, but I keep on telling him no with using his young age as an excuse. In reality, I'm just scared he will become self-efficient and I will never see him again.

All I know for sure is one thing. I will do anything to keep him safe.0

*********

There was a blinding bright light and then here I am in front of a throne room. I look to my side and see my brother is still with me

-Good, he's still incredibly helpless without me. Wait, did that king like man just call me a hero?-

"Hey stop ignoring me I'm here too you know!" My idiot of a brother then proceeded to scream at the man who can only be the king of the castle that we found ourselves in.

"Please forgive my idiot of a brother. You look like a king but what do you mean we were brought here and where?" I quickly try to calm down the powerful man in front of us, while wondering why my brother has to act like this.

'Shut up Ghost we have no idea who he is and where we are you should treat him kindly, idiot.' Then I make sure my idiot little brother doesn't make the same mistake again or else we might end up losing our poor pitiful lives here.

-What is this idiot thinking does he have a death wish speaking against such a powerful looking figure.-

"I not only look like a king, young miss, but I'm actually am a king! You're not in the same world you were originally you are on another planet, my dear and I am the ruler of this whole world."

-As I thought he was a powerful figure in this world, but I didn't expect him to rule this world.-

"The unknown want to take away my world. They just appeared out of nowhere and said that this planet wasn't mine and tried to take it from me."

-I see so he summoned us because he was scared and needed some help to protect his precious world. I don't know how we can be helpful to him. I mean he looks strong enough to take on an army by himself. Just how strong are these unknown if he is scared of them?-

"You are the hero that has been summoned to this world to save it and then you may go back if you wish. For that is your destiny."

-Wait if it's our destiny is to save this world then why was our life so bad in our previous worlds!-

The king then goes on about how my brother looks weak and how he isn't up to the heroic standers so he must have been dragged into the summoning. I didn't think of him as a hero either and I really don't want to have him fight against anyone either.

To be blunt he is an idiot. He never showed any promise for anything that required knowledge that even a kid two years younger than him can already perfectly understand.

I don't even think he can read. But he is my adorable pure brother. I don't care if he is an idiot or if he is secretly a genius and is just hiding it from me because he's afraid I would work extra hard to pay for school. I wouldn't because he's my precious little brother, but that's beside the point.

"Now then little kid I'm going to bring you to a nice old lady who will take care of you while your sister is off saving our world. There is no need for you to hear the conversation I am going to have with your sister."

-Hey! I get your the king of this world and everything, but that doesn't mean you can pick my brother up by the scruff and force him out of here just because he looks weak.-

-"He deserves to understand the situation at least. Even if he might not be able to comprehend it all and if you weren't a king I wouldn't let you do that. He is also good emotional support for me.-

"Sorry about that. I just didn't like to see that weak little kid in my throne room. I also thought that he didn't need to know any of what I'm going to tell you since he probably won't be leaving the 4th section of this city much less the rest of it."

"Don't worry about him. I left him with a person who owes me a favor, but she is nice and will take good care of your brother. So, just focus on getting stronger and then you can protect him along with this world."

The king seems to finally realize that I care about my brother dearly so makes sure that I know that Ghost will be okay.

"Now then there are a few things you should know about this world. The most important thing is magic. Magic is a common thing in this world yet uncommon."

He looks directly in the eyes while probably trying to see my magic talent.

"What I mean by that is only nobility can use it, or the people who have a talent for it become nobles because of it. The unknown doesn't have mages. Most of the unknown are melee fighters who will stop at nothing to kill you. They don't have a speck of mana inside of their bodies so they are hated by us."

He seems to be disgusted by the fact that they can't use mana and starts to make them seem like the barbarians of my own world.

"They are a crude bunch and aren't afraid to rip your eyes out or attack a man's genitals. That is one spot that no one should attack, no matter how desperate they are."

"How is it common if only the upper class can use it?" I ask the king while being confused about the fact that he called such a, well, magical ability common. I also can't help but wonder what types of magic the king has mastered.p ppl

"That's simple, my dear, we use it for everything. We light up the night with magic crystals, we use magic to make the fire we use it to cook. Even the poor of this world have access to some form of basic magic, even if they can't use amazing spells everyone in this world has some mana. It's just the upper class tends to have more mana than the rest and can use the mana to cast spells."

"The unknown is the only sentient life, that I know of, that can't use magic. They must be jealous of our magic, so they decided to hide and wait till they have an army!"

"They hid in the wilderness and built up their numbers in secret."

"I'm surprised on how big they managed to become without alerting our attention. Now they've grown too big for our military to handle. We can kill them, but they just keep coming and coming till we run out of our only source of strength our mana."

"Once someone runs out of mana they're useless and makes it harder to defend for some time. Usually, once one person runs out of mana the rest fall in suit."

"We tried to keep people in reserves but the sheer number of them made it impossible to separate into groups to protect our key advantage points."

-I can't help but start to imagine a mass of creatures attacking a city in large numbers while the city guards are too exhausted to fight back.-

"There have been legends about a hero that can be brought to our world who has an extreme mana capacity and no matter how many people go against him/her it will only lead to death till there's no one in front of him/her!"

"That is you and we are hoping that like the legends say you can take out a large portion of their forces or at least be able to give our army some breathing room."

-Well, he's making it seem like I'm some monster and he is already putting, so much pressure on me to be strong.-

-If these unknown have so many people, how does he expect one person to change the tides of war? You're already outnumbered by the people able to fight yet you expect one person to end it all.-

"What about my brother?"

"He will be treated like a grandson while he is my friends care. She never had a child, so he must be a gift from the heavens to her. Don't worry about him, he won't be forced to train or have any expectations for him to do anything helpful for our cause. He will be safe."

"As long as he is safe, I don't care about what I have to do." At that instance, I finally understood that he's already figured out what mattered to me the most in the universe my brother and was bribing me with his safety.

"That's the spirit. Now about my fair world. I don't know how the place was where you lived, but here there isn't anything that is really worth mentioning. Everything besides the forest and desert is under my control!"

"There is a forest that is filled with mystical creatures and monsters. Monsters are like regular animals that have been corrupted. Mythical creatures are born as creatures with immense power. Unlike monsters, they're built to kill from birth. Some of them are smarter than even you."

"The desert is a desolate wasteland. There is nothing there to our knowledge and it's way too hot for any creature to live in. There isn't much know about it, because no one wants to explore in an area that will cook you alive."

The king starts to visibly sweat while he probably remembers the scorching heat of the desert.

"I don't know how far the forest and desert stretch, but seeing how the unknown became such a large fighting force I would say that it's bigger than my land. The desert, on the other hand, is even more unknown in everything since no one can last a day in the heat."

"Is there anything else I should know?"

"Yes. You are hereby forbidden from meeting your brother till you get strong enough to survive an assassination. We should get to your training and see how strong a hero we can bring out of you. Come let's go."

-------------------------------------------------------------------

"She's not as strong as I thought she would be." A large man, the size of a bear, tells the king. "It's been 3 and a half months and she hasn't made nearly as much progress as I thought she would."

He stops to access Jana's talent for a bit before releasing a deep sigh. "She has the talent to be a good soldier and if she tries hard enough, maybe even an elite but not a hero."

"I know George, but what can we do about it. Her brother looked like he would die if someone punched him. We can double check if he has a talent for magic, I guess."

The king seems to recall something important about Ghost's current living environment. "Liz did have all those books about magic, he might have picked something up from those.

"Just to be sure, how about letting her try live combat and see if her survival instincts go off."

"Hmm, nothing too dangerous we don't want to risk the wrath of her younger brother. He may help the unknown instead of us if we got her killed.

"Jana! Front and center!"

"Yes, s-sir!" She is visibly still the same after the various trials that have happened in her three months while visibly being uncomfortable at calling George, sir.

"I need you to take your sword to the guard barracks and then ask one of them to watch over you as you battle your first monster."

"My f-first monster, sir?" She seems to be visibly shocked by the fact that she has to kill a monster after only training herself for so long.

"The king wants to see your full potential and has asked me to give you live training. I am busy, but the king's orders are immediate so one of the guards should watch over you in my stead. Don't worry I'm not asking you to slay a dragon just a weak little slime."

"Ok, sir!"

***********

"You lost, little miss?" A fit man wearing light leather armor with an insignia of a dragon asks me.

"No, sir. My name is Jana, the king asked me to do live combat training with a slime under a guards supervision." I try to reply back with as much confidence as I can muster.

"Oh really, and why would the king ask such a small girl to do live combat training?"

"The king told me that I am a hero and a hero should have live combat."

The guard stares at me in disbelief for a few seconds then just stands there and thinks for a full minute. Finally, he decides to just listen to the higher-ups like a good toy soldier.

"Chuck! Take this little girl outside the city walls. Then give her pointers on how to kill a slime. After that, I need you to watch over her while she attempts to kill it."

"Ok." A cheerful guard replies. "Hi! I'm Chuck, so you need to kill a slime. Well, it's going to be easy with me giving you advice. The plan is simple just send some weak magic at it then done."

"I can't use magic. All I can use are these daggers." I show him my small daggers. The other swords looked light but I couldn't learn how to properly swing anything that was longer than these.

"That won't do. You see slimes are incredibly weak to magic, but blunt damage is none existent and if you can't pierce its core then simply can't kill it."

Obviously, my poor body strength and short little daggers wouldn't be able to pierce into the core of the slime.

"You would get hit by the slime's tentacles to many times. The slime doesn't have any damage besides blunt. Its tentacles may look like they are acid but in reality, these slimes are too weak to even burn you."

"There is another way, but I get called crazy for it."

"What's the other way?"

-I don't care if the world turns on me because of it. As long as I can protect Ghost.-

"Well its."

______________________________________________________________________________

In front of me is a green blob of liquid that is called a slime in this world. I try to cut at it with my daggers and to my surprise, the dagger manages to cut into it, but the dagger cannot cut deep enough.

-So the ball in the center is its core and if I can destroy it then it should die!-

I attempt to stab into its core yet again but it goes even less distance than the first random stab!

-It's too far in I can't reach it. I guess if this was a game it would be level 1 and I can't even kill it. A mear level 1 slime and my only option is to.-

I open my mouth and start to drink the slime. It tastes similar to chicken, but that just makes it feel even worse. Drinks or jello should not taste like chicken. *Slurp Slurp slurp gulp* all that's left is the core. I put it in my mouth and swallow it whole. *Burp!*

"That tasted funny Chuck!"

"I know right it's an addicting taste. To bad no one else is willing to try it. If I more people were like you then I would probably not be called crazy Chuck anymore."

"How did the live combat go George?" The king asks while fidgeting anxiously.

"Terrible she has one other talent then what I saw from the beginning. She couldn't even kill a slime so she ate it instead. Who resorts to eating the beast if they can't kill it. She's insane, all we can do is hope that her brother is a genius and can save us from that massive army."
