Chapter 1 - Prologue: The purge of Flare

Misfortune rain upon the House of Flare when the House of Luteran made their way to the mansion. When the Flare loses their last fortress, the House of Flare had taken a heavy loses to their fight forces. With their main powerhouse fallen to the enemy's hand, most of the General of the house either went to hiding or deflected. Leaving only one General left to defending their Mistress, Alina, and her four-month-old child from the invasion.

(Alina's room.)

[Maid 1: Quickly mistress, we need to leave the house before Brice's man arrived!]

[Alina Flare: Then let's not waste any more time.]

[Maid 2: The Barrier had fallen, Sir Zeid had gathered our remaining army at the Herb Garden behind the house. We should make haste]

[Alina Flare: Let's go!]

Staying as calm as she can, Alina holds tightly at the 4 months old child on her hands and rush downstairs while having one maid leading at her front. Before they are able to make a turn to the door leading out to the Herb Garden, Brice, and his soldiers appeared in front of them at the main hall.

[Brice: What do we have here? A woman whose husband failed to show out on the decisive day of the battle at Fort Lunarest and 2 lowly maids. Such a pitiful sight!]

[Alina: You have no right to talk about my husband after what you did to my people Brice! You broke the trust that my husband has on you and attacked the Fort, and now you dare stand in front of me?!]

[Maid 1: Mistress, please calm yourself! You need to get to the Herb Garden before all is lost]

[Maid 2: Agree, me and Lily will stall some time for you to reach Sir Zeid and meet you there]

After displaying that their loyalty toward their mistress, both maids move forward and ready to defend their mistress with every bit of magic they have left. Seeing the determination in their eye, Alina holds her tears knowing that she will never meet her subjects again. But

[Alina: Lily, Teresa, Don't die on me, For the House of Flare!]

After saying her farewell, Alina makes a leap back and concentrate some mana at her left foot swiping towards the right as she landed on the ground.

[Alina: Create Greater Barrier, Mana River]

(A stream of blue light shine greatly for a split second where the barrier was placed, a bluish transparent wall emerge with a flow of mana linking both Lily and Teresa. Mana River is a barrier that provides an increase of mana capacity by using the mana used to cast the barrier. For as long as it still stands, any spells that had being casts will use the mana of the barrier instead of the caster until depletion.)

[Brice: Bitch!]

Before Brice was able to do anything, Runes was placed under his feet.

[Teresa: Place Runes, Explosion]

A shockwave that sends the whole house shaking for a moment was created from the explosion but not enough to deal a significant damage to Brice.

[Brice: Is that all you got, little maid?]

[Teresa: Not quite. Why not you try attacking us?]

[Brice: I have enough of this. Kill the maids and break that darn barrier!]

Armed with spears and magic, soldiers of the House of Llesh charged in. Noticing the fallen pieces of the roof on the floor, Lily and Teresa glance at each other and noted before looking back at the charging spearmen.

[Lily: Enchant, Greater speed]

[Teresa: Place Runes, Pull.]

(The charging spearmen were caught in surprise with their sudden increase of movement speed and just before they were able to react, the roof came collapsed on them. Killing all eight of them instantly.)

[Lily: Well, that was easy.]

[Teresa: Ya, thanks to the mistress. We don't have to worry about our mana issu-]

(On the floor just under where Teresa stand, three ice spike rose up and piece through Teresa's body as it went through her body all the way out through her neck. Blood quickly coated the ice spike and transform it to ruby red, all witnessed by Lily in both horror and rage)

[Teresa: Ur..gh.aa..]

[Lily: Te...re...]

(Confused and rooted by fear, Lily's legs slowly soften and were too weak to walk. Watching the person whom you spent nine years working with and shared most of your moments laughing and teasing, lost.)

(An explosion that is strong enough to break the rubber of collapsed roof sent Lily flying for a small distance. Awake from her horror appeared Brice and the remaining fifteen of his men)

[Brice: Using enchantment to boost your enemy while setting traps at the same time. My, you support mages are full of surprises aren't you? Hahaha. But your luck ends here maid, bring me to your mistress or join your elven friend in the other world.]

Being caught up by the death of the friend at that moment, Lily finally snapped and realized the dire situation she was in. Refusing to die at the hand of the enemy Lily sprung out and put a distance between her and Brice and his men. Focusing some mana at her index finger, she quickly wrote out a few glyphs in the air and cast one final spell before departing and join her mistress.

[Lily: Cast Greater Glyph, Paralysis]

A glyph is a set of letter used to create most magical rune and some barrier, often written on a solid surface unless the caster is skillful enough to cast it in the air. Although spells created by using Glyph are usually more powerful, normally most mages avoid using it during a fight due to it being time-consuming and exposed the mage to any form of attack. However, in this case, Lily got lucky as she managed to finish the 5 letter glyphs mid-air.

[Lily: (No matter how powerful Brice is, that should be able to hold him down for a while. VIctory here is impossible, I need to join up the mistress and Sir Zeid before escape is impossible as well.)]

At the herb garden, the situation was not any better. Most of the herbs were burned due to the fire from the siege and the escape path was nearly completely covered with fire. The rank of Sir Zeid is left with not more than 20 people with a handful of knights and four mages guarding Alina and her child sitting in the wagon. To their surprise, Lily appeared at the entrance of the herb and rushed in to report about her situation.

[Zeid: Lady Lily, where's Teresa?]

[Lily: Death, she got killed her in the mansion by Brice's freezing sword. I managed to shake them off with Paralysis but we got to go now!]

[Zeid: Lady Alina, what is your order?]

Looking at the baby at her arm, with a smile that curves with much happiness despite the surrounding being so hot. For some reason, Alina saw some hope in his eyes which gave her the strength to move forward in this despairful situation. Despite never lead before, She muscled her courage and gave her order.

[Alina: We will head Lorrin Forest, from there we are able to hide from the eye of Brice's men where we can strategize our next move. Ride!]

[Zeid&Lily: Understood!]

With that, Alina and her forces left the mansion. As Brice and his men finally freed of the paralysis, they left the building and gathered all of Luteran's soldiers to give an announcement. As of today mark the day that the House of Flare fallen to the House of Luteran.
