Her mind literally shuts down due to the extreme humiliation that she's feeling.
She wanted to dig a hole and just stay buried forever.
Kenny pulled over and went to a nearby pharmacy.
"Little Mei... Here take this."
He bought her water, a hangover medicine and some snack.
He opened the passenger seat and bend down on the pavement to get a closer look on Mei Chen.
Little Mei mechanically looked at him. Her heart was beating so fast.
"Say,... Do you really mean it."
"Mean what?.."
He asked. He couldn't think straight cause he was preoccupied how strange Mei Chen was acting.
"Do you really love me?"
She asked him that thing that she's been dying to know.
She wanted to clear all her doubts and be over it.
Kenny held her hand. He couldn't tell her. Not yet.
He wanted to tell her how he really felt about her but not like this.
Not in an empty road with hangover meds and a few snacks.
She deserve to have a memorable confession.
Mei Chen took it as him not answering her for he didn't want to humiliate her.
She reckoned that she was brazen enough to ask him that question when he was only coaxing her last night.
All throughout their journey back to the hospital none of them said a single word.
Only the sound of the radio can be heard.
Kenny had escorted her back to her ward then left.
That day, for the first time since she wake up from her coma, Kenny didn't showed up.
The next day, the nurses were all wondering where doctor Tan was.
Mei Chen just shrugged them off. She doesn't really know where he is.
She was feeling lonely and sad when the nurse mentioned his name.
As if part of her was missing when he's not around.
She doesn't feel like doing anything. She even lose her appetite.
All she could think about was that moment when she asked him that ridiculous question.
She was being shameless and had cause him to leave her because of her assuming that he really liked her.
'He might think that I'm disgusting now. Stupid Mei Chen why do you have to ruin things.'
She inwardly scolded herself. She only has herself to blame.
If she hadn't treated him arrogantly and just pretend that she didn't remember her drunken slurs things would've been different.
At dinner time, a nurse came by and checked her stats.
"Little Mei, you were cooped up here all day. Why don't you go out and breathe some fresh air."
"It's fine. I don't feel like it."
"Well, the doctor said its good for you so you could clear out your lungs."
The nurse insisted. Mei Chen looked at him dubiously.
She could clearly remember that the doctor had told her that her lungs were all fine.
But since she wasn't well versed at medical things she reluctantly get up and walked towards the hospital's pavilion.
She was quietly walking, trying to appreciate the plants and the flowers at the garden when all of a sudden. All the lights went out.
The whole place was pitch black. She stood frozen in her spot. She was waiting for the generator to kick in.
When she heard a strum of guitar, then all the lights lighten up infront of her.
