Chapter 122 - Chapter 191 A Message

The sixth day of the battle between commander Ke and Lun Hu turned out to be the most brutal one to date. Not to mention, that Lun Hu was taking to the field personally. His abilities as a fighter were quite well known, and it would be foolish of Ke to think that he would be able to take him down in combat, no matter how many of his own he threw at Lun Hu. That was why he settled on focusing on the loyal fighters that surrounded Lun Hu on all sides. He gave the word to all of his units on the front lines to take out the supporting fighters by the side of their enemy general.

Not surprisingly, their plans were figured out pretty quickly and the supports of Lun Hu were being protected by legions of soldiers, more so than they had been before. This made dealing a big blow much more difficult and so the forces of Ke could only go about the battle the old fashioned way, by killing as many soldiers as they could. The battle progressed a bit further before Ke summoned the majority of his remaining soldiers to carry out another order. He split them up into another three groups of 15,000 men each and sent them all in different directions. There would be two that would circle left and right of the battlefield to and cut into the enemy either at their flank or the side, depending on how the enemy army responded. The last one would go straight to reinforce their comrades and would, therefore, get there the fastest.

Both sides were perfectly matched in terms of numbers before, but with this new development, Lun Hu would be at an advantage once more. However, he did not need to concern himself with such matters as he had complete trust in the team of strategists that he had left behind in camp. With nearly no time at all, a stream of soldiers and war vehicles rushed out to back up Lun Hu. These were no ordinary groups that had been sent out, rather, they were a special group that had been specialized towards explosives with various different weapons. Though they were few in numbers, the damage that they could do was devastating.

With new reinforcements coming for both sides, the battle turned hectic to an all-new level. The constant stream of demolitions experts of Lun Hu was not sent to the main battlefield, but to the two armies that would be circling around to do a flanking maneuver. Now, it turned into one big battlefield with two smaller ones on both sides. So many bodies fighting together was not uncommon for these soldiers as they had seen much action with their leaders having to fight war after war, year after year.

This was where Ke's army showed their disadvantage in time spent training. The men under him were fairly well trained, but nothing special like Lun Hu's crazy army that was renowned for their brutal drills and combat maneuvers. This had led to Ke's men actually being pushed back slightly despite their overwhelming numbers. Who knew that they would be so effective? Lun Hu and his inner circle. By the end of the day, Ke had lost several thousand of his men, but he had finally been able to deal some damage to Lun Hu's army.

All the sacrifices in the war that he had made these past few days were finally coming to fruition. Many would respect him if he was able to take down the legendary Lun Hu. Of course, this did not mean that he was undefeated. Just insanely hard to beat on equal terms. These past few days, commander Ba had a special group of his army of 90,000 keep an eye for any potential night raids. Though, he knew that such a possibility would not be very plausible considering the mass difference in numbers not to mention the higher risk that it carried along with it.

Even the cockiest of strategists should not shirk this duty, however, especially considering that their opponent was Lun Hu, famous for being able to flip the tables around despite the odds. As far as the two commanders could tell, their opponent hadn't really been trying at all this battle and that he was finally about to get serious. Or it could even be that they had already fallen for a trap that they had not even been able to pick up on these past days. This was likely just a product of imagination, but you never really know when going up against someone of such high caliber.

Halfway through the night, the two commanders got a note from Baron telling them to keep Lun Hu at bay and to not engage unless they were attacked first. It turned out that the two other battlefields were doing quite alright despite everything and the last thing that they needed right now was another army spilling into their battlefield ready to disrupt everything that had been gained in the past almost week. So that was what commander Ke and commander Ba decided to do for the next few days. They had aspirations to beat Lun Hu, sure, but an opportunity presented itself to get nearly as much respect for nearly half the work. Who wouldn't want to be in this situation?

However, it seemed that Lun Hu got a similar message, but most likely something on the opposite spectrum as he began to start hounding Ke and Ba's army for everything that they had. The attacks grew more constant. The casualties started to rise up. Their numerical advantage was starting to shrink in size. Everything the two tried to do to stop Lun Hu was useless. Defending an army was supposed to be easier than taking down an army, but it seemed in their case, they were far too naive to think that Lun Hu would give them a chance to counterattack.
