And apparently, Jess's life was full of events. Shopping with friends, vacations, showing her new stuffs...
And her new car.
Nora clenched her teeth at the sight. One day, this car will end up into pieces. And she'll be the first to enjoy it.
She couldn't even believe this cousin had the nerve to put online this photo. Who would show the car used in an attempted murder ?
But that meant her father could be aware of this. Maybe he went to confront them...
Then he could be in the capital right now. Far from the zombies.
That would be good news.
Only her mother's situation was worrisome.
She continued to search on the phone when a stunning sound broke the silence. Startled, the three women looked at each other, uneasy. Like something was scratching the walls or...
They looked up and saw that a part of the ceiling was moving.
Oh no. Did zombies made their way here ? Through the ceiling ?
Nora took her infusion stand in hand while Daisy brought her son closer in her embrace. Millie placed herself before the young mom and child and took her school bag. She put all their snacks inside and planned to use it as a weapon. Even if it couldn't kill, it was better than nothing.
Nora frowned.
Something was wrong.
She understood that zombies seemed to have forgotten their existence in less than twenty minutes after they locked themselves in.
So why would they try to go through the ceiling if the ones outside the door didn't bother ?
Soon, she got her answer.
A hole appeared in that ceiling and a man, with an awkward shriek, fell from there. All happened in a few seconds, and all the women could do was to stare at the intruder.
He didn't jump, he really... fell.
On all four, he barely could grumble anything.
Nora looked up to that hole and saw a foot moving from there. Did someone push this unfortunate one from there ? It seemed so.
Daisy recognised the one on the floor and helped him get up.
"Are you alright, Jake ?"
"Yeah, it's fine, little D. Just your hubby is irritated those days."
"You can't even make a hole without taking years to do it, shame on you."
A second man came, this time he jumped perfectly and stayed on his feet. Before Daisy could even react, Jamie was embracing her in a bear hug. As much as he could though, Daisy was still holding baby Shawn after all.
"Oooh, so cuuuute !"
Millie totally loved this adorable scene before her and completely forgot her previous anxiousness.
Nora was a bit helpless before her sister but she couldn't find fault in her tastes.
This was indeed cute.
Jamie was a tall and handsome man, he and Daisy were a perfect match. Nora even wondered if he was really a police officer.
Shouldn't he be an actor or a model ?
If all cops looked like him, no one would watch movies anymore. They'd call the police instead. Even if it was for nothing and attracted some trouble later, as long as they could make come for a few minutes one of this specimen, it would be worth it.
Jake wasn't that bad, either, but one look and Nora determined his personality.
A carefree player.
He must be a nice guy, but just as a friend. It was a "don't cross the line", or you would end up with a broken-heart.
She glanced at Millie who was still in adoration before the family, and heaved a little sigh.
Even if he came with the group to save them, she will put up a little distance between Millie and Jake.
Just in case. Better safe than sorry, right ?
Two other men entered the room from the ceiling and a joyful reunion happened. It was a bit strange, because Millie and Nora were ignored in that situation.
Not that it bothered them, though.
It was an eye-candy for Millie, who loved beautiful people, and those for newcomers weren't hideous at all. It was a touching scene too, why not watch shamelessly ?
Nora was less interested in their faces and more on their attitude.
Jamie looked to be the most normal, cared deeply about his wife and child wellbeing, unwiling to step away from more than ten centimeters.
Jake joked and had a big smile on his face, reassuring Daisy without doing much. A good friend indeed, but he tended to flirt too. It was a reflex, not on purpose and he seemed to have no intentions toward Daisy, he just talked this way, making Jamie look at him with a gloomy face once or twice, but without real conflict.
The third person, Nora didn't know and couldn't gess his name, but he was a calm and collected person. Not the cold type like her own father, just relaxed and peaceful. He didn't talk much but when he did, it was a soft voice and had a good reasoning.
The last man was a bit more troubling for her.
Good looking, charismatic. Personality...
Unknown.
He had a light smile on his face and we could think he was a sympathetic guy. But his expression didn't change much, like it was a commercial smile. His eyes showed some warmth, so he visibly cared for this group of people.
Nora was thinking he must be a nice guy, probably.
Until he took a look at her.
It was quick, not even two seconds but it chilled her.
The warmth there was before was replaced with interest.
And Nora didn't like this interest.
He looked at a stranger but why did she felt he was glancing at a potential threat ?
Well, it wasn't like she didn't know it could happen.
Daisy must have told them her "special" situation.
So yes, she was a potential threat.
She straightened her back.
She didn't know how she would persuade them she wasn't that dangerous but she had to.
They were the only way she and her sister could go out.
If she was on her own, since the zombies didn't care about her existence, maybe she could deal with the situation, but her sister couldn't.
And she wouldn't separate from her sister.
She had to give them a good reason not to let her behind.
Or not to kill her directly.
She was still in the middle of her thoughts when the happy reunion stopped a bit abruptly.
The fourth man started to walk towards her.
Each step put Nora's anxiousness to a new level. 'This... Why can't they just speak properly ? It's scary !'
He stopped right before her.
And aimed his gun at her head.
She opened her eyes wide.
She was a bit in a disbelief. 'Just like that ? I'm gonna die just like that ? No way !'
With his commercial smile, he looked at her curiously before he asked her :
"So, monster, do I kill you ?"
Nora's face went black. 'Monster... ? Is that how you call people when you meet them ? And what's with that question ? Who would say yes ?!'
