Chapter 5 - They're everywhere !

'Is he a victim... ? Or the murderer ?! Mama I'm gonna die ! OK, no panic, calm down, breath in, breath out... Calm down... I am totally serene and free of worries... He's not a killer, I am completely safe...'

Persuading herself, she made a tiny step before another, trying to go around the bed without alerting the man in the corner. The chewing sound grew stronger, and a strange thought appeared in Nora's mind.

'He's... eating ? He is even normal to eat when there's bodies here ? Wait... What is he eating ?'

She tilted her head a bit and gasped, horrified. An arm. He was masticating an arm. Nora reacted in two seconds with the only possibility that crossed her mind. Run. She ran towards the door and opened it. And screamed.

An awful rotting smell was floating in the air. Blood splattered on the walls, doors and even the ceiling. Corpses littered the floor. All the standing persons in the corridor were missing a part of their body, a leg, a piece of flesh. They were dangerously pale with dark veins on their skin. And they were busy eating the dead bodies.

Nora slammed the door. A single word came to her. Zombies. 'They're everywhere ! I can't believe it ! Am I dreaming ? Ouch, no, not a dream. It's just like in those apocalyptic movies. What am I gonna do ? Wait, I need to survive first. When he'll stop eating the... ugh... Don't throw up, don't... I'll be the next, right ? I need to deal with that. They're so much out there, and only one here. OK, Nora, you can do this. You didn't survive a car accident to die like this. Plus I really need to rip Jess's face, this b*tch.'

Persuading herself to stop panicking, she took an infusion stand with her shaking hands and approached the zombie in the corner. Slowly. The voice of her dad filled her head.

'You have to adapt'.

She didn't know what happened during her sleep, but she had to adapt. Taking a deep breath, she pointed the infusion stand toward the zombie. She slightly touched his shoulder. No reaction. She touched it harder. His head moved in her direction, growling dangerously. Her mind went blank as her hands acted by instinct. The infusion stand passed through the left eye to the brain. She killed her first zombie.
