"I love you, Catherine. I really love you. And it makes me almost crazy just thinking that I almost lost you," he choked out. He wanted to hold her hands again but she kept both hands underneath the table. He knew she was holding her tears but still willing to hear his words.
She looked away and dapped the tears from her eyes with a napkin. She has failed to hold her tears.
He dropped the napkin from his lap and jumped to his feet. Without another word, he went to her side and pulled her to stand. He hugged her and let her cry against his chest. "I'm sorry."
His voice, gentle and full of regret broke the last strength in her and she cried. She ignored the fact that they were supposed to have their dinner there. She just cried and cried, letting her sadness and frustration out for him to see. She let her tears wetting his shirt without care.
And he did not care about his front being wet from her tears.
