It was a sunny morning, as the eight year old Dong Yang sat on the chair, and resting his head on to the window sill, gazing out at the bright morning sky, full of chirping birds, happily flapping their wings, as they flew up in the sky.
He was up early, and had nothing to do, so he thought that it would be good to look out at the beautiful scenery. Both his parents were already up, but his twin brother, Dong Ling was still asleep. He was quite laid back, unlike Dong Yang, who was quite cheerful and enthusiastic.
As he patiently sat there, a loud voice was heard by him, which said, "Breakfast is ready! Come down both of you!"
This was the voice of his mom, Dong Mei.
After hearing this, Dong Yang was very happy, and he ran to wake his brother up. Finally, when Dong Ling woke up, it was roughly 10 minutes after his mother had called out to them, but the food wouldn't lose any of its qualities, as it was going to retain all its properties, even its warmth, till at least half an hour.
This was what the food here was. It wasn't normal food, and was known as the Supreme Cuisine.
The family all worked together. Dong Yang's dad, Dong Shun, owned a restaurant, in which all of the family collaboratively helped in the chores. Currently, Dong Yang and Dong Ling were too young for cooking, so they helped out with chores like waiting the tables, and afterwards, they learnt cooking themselves. When they would become a bit older, they would also help in cooking in the restaurant.
After waking up, Dong Ling could smell the exotic and fresh fragrance of the food, and quickly freshened himself up, so that the food doesn't start to rot. Dong Yang had already freshened up, and he was waiting for his brother.
After both of them were downstairs, it had been only 15 minutes, and the food was still super good, as it was fresh cooked and served.
Over here, the ingredients were also different, from the spices to the vegetables to the meat, all were different from the normal world.
As both the boys walked up, they sat, and ate up the whole of their breakfast. It was extremely delicious!
The white, crunchy Chous, enveloped in thick, white cream, which gave it a smooth texture. As he bit into it, the soft spherical piece of meat slid down through his throat, giving off a soothing feeling. After than soothing feeling, came the enthusiasm caused from the Buro, which was enveloped in thick red sauce, which was way more hot and spicy, compared to the previous one. It had a crunchy and cubical structure, which was the exact opposite of the previous.
Both of them, if combined, would produce such harmony, which would utterly delight the one eating it, and charm him with its combined mystical aura.
Dong Yang appreciated this fact of the food, which was why he wanted to become a chef, not like his rather lazy and laid back brother.
Even though they weren't matching at all, they still got along perfectly well, and the brotherhood the harbored for each other was something that they cherished.
As Dong Yang savored each and every bite. He felt each and every feeling he got from biting the food again and again. The feeling of the sauce flowing down his throat like a freshly flowing river. The crunchiness of the crunchy meat. The softness of the soft meat. Each and every minute detail was surveyed by him, as if he was examining the food.
On the other hand, Dong Ling just had to stuff the food in his mouth, and gulp it down. He had to eat it all up at once. That was the kind of boy he was. He was a foodie, and also a glutton, and he always ate up the food in front of him at record breaking and even faster speeds. He didn't need to take the flavor of each ingredient separately, as all of it mixed up into one big bulk, which was gulped down by him in a single moment. He ate it all up in one go, the flavors all miraculously combining to form one Heavenly flavor, which was as blissful and as tasty as tasting everything separately, like Dong Yang did.
It was not to say that one was better than the other, as none of them were fools. They both just had their own ways of grasping the flavors of the food that they were served. Each of them were equally good, and their talents were pretty good, considering that they were just a pair of young 8 year olds.
After having their breakfast, they washed their hands, and headed towards the back of their house, where they had their restaurant. As they were young, they only waited tables, and did other stuff like that, and that was their job today as well. They were pretty enthusiastic when it came to helping out in the restaurant.
They went and opened the restaurant for service, and just after a while, people started bustling in. Their jobs were to wait the tables, to greet the customers, and to occasionally do money handling business also. Mostly, the people went and gave the money right away at the beginning, but if someone didn't have the exact amount, and spare change had to be returned to him, then one of them would have to run off to fetch the money (that was mostly Dong Yang, as Dong Ling wasn't that enthusiastic to help out if it involved running around too much).
This was their everyday routine, which they seemed to like a lot, even though it wasn't that interesting. Their everyday life would seem boring, but this was just the morning job. The restaurant had breaks. It was open from 10:00-1:00, and then 7:00-10:00. It was a place where only breakfast and dinner was served, as most of the people tend to have lunch and evening snacks at their own house, and travelers usually had a large and fulfilling breakfast, which would keep them active for the whole day.
Everything was going as it is, until today, when the morning shift was over, and the whole family was in their house. As they had all rested for a while, Dong Yang's father was looking a bit tense, which Dong Yang had seen earlier as well. He seemed to be thinking of something, but wasn't sure to implement it or not.
He called them all up, and told them what was on his mind, as he said, "I have made a decision for the restaurant, which will be good for everyone, I guess. Xiao Yang, xiao Ling, both of you, now that you are 8 years old, you will have to focus on learning how to improve your cooking skills, and you have to help us out in the house. We will now focus on teaching you the basics, and we'll send you to a cooking academy when you are 10. Till then you will learn from us, so I have decided that we will have to find replacements for you two. If you will learn, we will need someone else to wait the tables, and that's why we're going to hire someone else."
Both the brothers were shocked, and just afterwards, Dong Ling's face turned into a bright smile, "So that means that we don't have to do anything! We're free! I'll get to sleep the whole day! This is awesome!"
Before he could say anything more, their mother interrupted, shattering his pleasant dreams, "That's not the case, as you will have to learn to cook, which is pretty tedious. That's the first step to become an expert chef."
When he heard this, Dong Ling's face had instantly changed. The bottom of his eyes were wet, and he was about to burst in tears, which was something that was but obvious. His beautiful dreams were now completely crushed as if they held to importance at all.
Dong Yang, on the other hand, was very excited, as he was now going to start on to the path of becoming an expert chef, which was his dream, and learning how to cook is the first step in this.
He looked up in the air, and then down, as he thought, "This is going to be really fun! Finally, I can become a chef!"
