All the freshmen and transferees head to the school gym to attend a short orientation from the student council wearing their school uniforms. For boys, they wear gray colored suit and black pants and shoes. The color of their necktie depends on their year level: green for freshmen, blue for junior year and red for the seniors. Same goes with the girls' ribbon. Girls uniform consists of gray suits, white pleated skirt and black knee-high socks with black shoes. Every student is given same leather shoulder bags to carry their school supplies.
Risa thinks it's a good idea to befriend her roommate, Katie. Not only because they came from the same school and were both transferees now, but also she was Katie, the kind-hearted top student of their previous school. Everybody loves her as she was known as a hardworking one and a dependable student by the faculty. And Risa doesn't want Katie to be uncomfortable with her as a roommate. She is not blind to not notice how Katie struggles to find the right words to say to her from the conversation before.
Wearing their uniforms, Risa and Katie heads to the school gym. They find themselves standing underneath a wooden platform that serves as the stage, surrounded by a crowd.
A tall, skinny man with eyeglasses appear on the 'stage' and greets everybody.
"A pleasant morning to everyone here. I am the student-elect President of the Student Council of Pearland Woods High School. My name is Matthew." Three girls and one boy emerge to join him. He points at each particular person he introduces. "This is Jean, the Vice President." She is a bubbly girl with short curly hair and she waves at the spectators. "This is our Secretary, named Fiona." She is a girl with a flawless skin and shoulder-length hair. Her eyes is small and she can only smile a little when introduced. "Our treasurer is Lily, this shy girl handles expenses expertly." Lily bows in front of the crowd. She is a frail girl with eyeglasses and long, wavy hair. "And lastly, our Public Information Officer, is the energetic Oliver." Oliver waves excitedly. He is a happy boy with thin hair strands. "You can approach all five of us anytime, ask us anything and we will assure you we will try our best to help."
The four officers leave after their introduction. Risa and Katie assumes the orientation is over but then Matthew has another announcement.
"Now let's move on to the second part of introduction."
The students below look at him in wonder.
"This time I will introduce to you the Disciplinary Committee." The crowd gasp in shock. "I know this seems so new to mostly of you."
Four weird-looking guys come up the stage. They look like gangsters.
Matthew exits and gives the attention to the fifth person who takes his place in the center. Some girls giggle in admiration at the sight of him. He is a boy with ruffled hair who looks like he just awaken from a deep sleep because of his tired, puffy eyes. Not that tall compared to Matthew's height but he has this air of arrogance surrounding him. One hand in his pocket, he introduces his group in his deep, authoritative voice.
"My name is Rey Hedson, Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee. This committee just started last year when the Board of Directors voted me as the Chairman. For all of you who wondered why this committee was established, last two years when I was then a freshman, a group of students broke through the walls surrounding the school area and went to the woods unnoticed. Until I did, when I came to a spot where I find a hole in the wall that is large enough to fit one person." The crowd listens silently. "The group of boys, six of them were unharmed when a rescue team came to retrieve them five days later, as they confessed they got lost in the woods, they couldn't find their way back. Unfortunately two of them were reported to have suffered nightmares for two consecutive weeks and sadly, one died of heart attack."
The crowd gasps in horror and pity.
"No one knows if he died because of their experience but the thing is breaking through the walls was never a really good idea. That's why we are here." Rey continues. "To prevent such cases and to impose strict rules and regulations. And also, we are authorize to do disciplinary actions to those who do not abide." He gives off an evil smirk that send chills to some in the crowd.
Risa cannot control her yawning thats why she did. Katie nudges her, worried she will be heard. Too late.
"Who is that?" Rey scans the crowd below him, annoyed. No one admits, certainly.
Katie glances sideways at the girl beside her. As expected, Risa isn't bothered at all, just bored.
"Okay. I will continue. Mac, tell me who did it, later." Rey tells the short guy to his right, the one recording the whole scene with his video camera. He is so small for his age one would think he is a junior high student, but he is one of their seniors.
"Sure." Mac replies, smiling.
"You would probably ask 'why we?', because we're also students like you." Rey continues. "I can not tell you that honestly, but this job doesn't really bother me. It's a great honor and I fully accepted it.
"As you can see, we have security personnel in the school grounds, three by the gate and one for each dorm. But their duties are limited only to their post. That's why our job is to watch over the students' welfare through the installed cameras scattered around the school area. We built a tree house, we call the Headquarters, far behind the school cafeteria where we, our group take turns in monitoring the students' whenever possible. How we do it? Of course, we won't tell you."
Rey introduces the members from the far left side to his right. "That one is Denver, the manga addict guy. He doesn't look like it but his observation skills is excellent." He points to the guy with yellow highlights in his hair and holding a small book.
"Here beside me is Louie – " The girls shriek in admiration for the handsome guy with red hair and sharp-pointed eyes. "He hates girls above all. But no, he is not gay." The admiration quickly turns to disappointment in no time.
"Then this is Mac, the techie guy. An expert programmer in his age, and size. And that huge guy over there is our mascot, we call him Huggy." He is referring to the guy with massive muscles, big head, hands and feet that slightly resembles The Incredible Hulk.
"Hi." Huggy waves at the crowd.
"We have another two members assigned right now in surveying the area. One is a hard-headed bald guy and at the same time the most curious among us; and the other one is a lazy, sleepyhead, you will soon meet them, don't worry.
"My members are well-trained for this position so do not underestimate us. From now on, all of you must live here according to the schools' rules and regulations and if not, we will see you in our Disciplinary Room. Be careful because we are watching you." Rey makes an evil smirk again.
The crowd disperse as soon as the orientation is finished.
"Absolute crap." Is all Risa can say. "That guy, the Chairman, is so full of himself. Did they think students will break through again after those incident? That experience is enough to scare those that are planning."
"Risa, lower your voice." Katie warns her friend as they head outside the gym. "They might hear you. They're still there."
"What a waste of time. Show-offs."
Meanwhile, Lynn is closer to tears. 'So this is why Daddy let me in here.' She says to herself. 'He literally fooled me! He told me this is a free school, just usual restrictions but it's not. I'm still under cameras. How unfair of him!'
She look around the dispersing crowd and didn't find her roommate, Alexa. "Oh my, God. Where is she?"
