Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 - Us

"My means of revenge include you, solely because I thought you wouldn't mind spending the rest of your life with me", I shivered at hearing that. What does he mean? I thought this was only for abit. I can't stay here for the rest of my life.

"I -I mind!", I shouted face full of shock and frustration, because what could have made him think that.

"When you were a kid you said you wanted to marry me", he sounded confident, as another wave of, 'I can't believe this shit', flew through me, "if I'm not wrong that means you wanted to spend the rest of your life with me".

He looked at me questioningly as if 5 year old me was still standing in front of me when in fact she no longer existed.

"I'm not the same person as I was 15 years ago, I have a life, you know, studies, career pursuits, I even..I even met someone", I said hoping to sway him, he was still the same Damien. The kind and generous Damien just abit betrayed.

"Who?", he inquired out of nowhere.

I blinked, not understanding what he was getting at.

"Who did you meet?",He said, eyes wide and face leaning forward in curiosity and a hint of overprotectiveness.

That's what he caught? did he only hear half of it?

"Um.. it's a classmate", I pulled out on a whim because I didn't actually really meet anyone. "It would've been our first anniversary next month" , I tried sounding as sad and heartbroken as possible.

"I see", he said slumping back and letting out an exhausted sigh. I looked at him finally taking in his appearance.

His dark hair, was the same. Not a hint of graying and if he was getting it dyed then it was a convincing job. As a kid I thought he had a facial deformity because of his sharp jawline but now of course it was a prominently attractive trait as was his striking green eyes that were in humanly glassy. In his depressed state he hadn't at all caught on to my staring.

"Everybody moves on pretty fast, huh.", he said, sadness and loneliness evident in his words.

"What do you mean? what have you been doing all this time?", I asked and straight after I said it he stood up, walking to the window. I could see him shaking lightly.

"Come and look out the window, I want to show you something", I jumped up scurrying over.

He was looking to the side and I unconsciously followed his gaze. Houses were aligned in multiple rows all looking absolutely identical.

"Holy shi-", Damien cutt of my cuss.

"That shows you something doesn't it", although I found the houses to be very intriguing Damiens tone held a note of melancholy.

"Humans learned something years ago, many years ago. Before the industrial revolution. Before the wars. Before they developed any idea of common sense, something so serious that their memories were wiped of almost everything, language, behaviour, just an empty shell", he spoke. I couldn't help the shiver that climbed it's way up my neck.

"They discovered 'us' ", He said as if he could recall the very moment but could that be possible. Age wise he looked no older that his mid twenties.

I didn't get to find out who 'us' was as the tall, man dressed clad in black entered. A flicker of anger mixed with a dominant sense of fear washed over me.

"You!", I cried at him quite aggressively however he just ignored me coming to a stop in front of Damien.

"Damien, your mother's coming. She heard the news of your new pet", he glanced at me, "and is of course interested", He concluded with a look of distaste at me.

"I figured she'd do this", he sighed, pulling curtains shut as if somebody was watching us.

"Lorraine!!", he suddenly shouted really loud and then cursed when no answer was received.

He then shouted his lungs out as I watched utterly bewildered. Who was Lorraine? and no sooner was I about to find out as a glamorous figure came down the staircase in the corner that I hadn't spotted at all before.

"Just because I'm living in your house doesn't make you my mother, Damien", she sneered.
