After an unknown period of time, she slowly regained consciousness. Her blurry vision cleared and she heard the abrupt sound of rain. It was dark outside and rain poured from above. The wind was fiercely blowing and flashes of lightning illuminated the sky occasionally.
She was in a small box wrapped in cloth outside a stone building with a wooden door. A lamp hanged on the wall, lighting up the entrance. Confused, she tried to say something, only for it to come out as a cry. What the hell?! She furiously thought. Did I reincarnate or something?! But the newborn hadn't formed any memories as of yet, so she received no information as soon as their souls merged. She was having her doubts and couldn't confirm anything as of yet.
The wooden door opened and an average middle-aged lady dressed as a nun came out holding a candle in her hand. Upon seeing her, the lady seemed astonished, before panic filled her eyes. She set the candle down and gently picked her up out of the wooden box. The nun looked outside, hoping to see the parents. But there was nobody, and the streets were mostly empty.
She picked up the candle with her available hand before closing the door. Xinyue watched as she carried her through a large living room that had two rows of wooden tables that went from one end to another packed with chairs. There was four wooden doors on the left side and all had words I recognized. From the doorway to the end was boy's room, girl's room, boy's restroom, and girl's restroom.
On the right side was study room library, laundry room, pantry, and kitchen. The one against the wall on the other side had a door with words that said nun's room. The entire place was comprised mostly of stone except the tables and doors along with a few other things. Torches were aligned against the wall to keep the place lit, except they were out right now. It had a very medieval style to her surprise.
The nun entered the nun's room where several nuns were asleep in their aligned beds. There was a few desks against the wall that had extinguished candles with white paper sitting atop. Each had pens and pencils inside.
The nun quickly woke all the ladies up who complained and rubbed their eyes. They were in sleeping gowns but still got up after the ushering.
*yawns* "What is it Li? What's the commotion?"
"I need my sleep for tomorrow~."
"So tired~."
"Somebody left this child out at the door, and I couldn't find them," said the nun named Li. Everyone quickly sobered up and went over to the nun.
"What~?"
"This hasn't happened in years."
"Who leaves their kids by our doorstep?"
It all instantly turned into a commotion.
"Well, I can't just leave this baby out there. We'll have to take him in," she said with a shrug.
"What? We barely get enough income to feed the kids as it is."
"Yeah, the kids are gonna starve!"
"Well, everyone will just have to pitch in a little more than usual. I can't bear the thought of leaving this one out to die," said Li.
"Well, that depends on whether or not the kid has talent," said a deep female voice in the back. Everyone turned silent and made way. A nun taller than the rest came into view. Her looks were average but she had indifference and coldness towards the baby. It seems she's the leader.
"B-but," said Li.
"No butts. Income and food is already as tough as it is. Any more and we'll be in the negative. If the kid has more talent than our lowest talent one, I'll just kick the other out and keep this one. Maybe we'll be lucky and have a high grade one to recommend to the clans so we can get a bonus," she said, licking her lips about money without care. Li wanted to argue, but the nun stopped her again.
"Fang Li, if you don't want to lose your job, then do as I say," she said indifferently. Li hesitated but complied with dim eyes. She glanced at the Xinyue with some hope. Xinyue's heart turned cold and wrath surged beneath the surface.
The leader nun went back and returned with a crystal ball that fit perfectly in her hands. She injected Qi and the ball lit up with power, before grabbing Xinyue's hand and putting the ball inside. Xinyue felt something enter her body and entered every part of it before returning to the ball. The color of the ball changed to a dull red color. Everyone's faces turned to disappointment while some glanced at her with ridicule while others with pity including Li.
"Red means she has no talent, meaning she's destined to be a mortal. Please get rid of this child," said the nun whose face turned a shade colder. Li couldn't help but feel intense pity and slowly leave the room. She secretly went into the kitchen, and prepared a bottle of breast milk and slices of bread, before putting it inside the cloth wrapped around her.
"This is all I can do for you little girl. If you somehow survive, I hope you understand my choice," she said softly while carrying her to the door.
Xinyue's thought were complicated right now. She had long guessed that she had reincarnated into a medieval world, but didn't expect a fantasy one. But then it was revealed her talent for cultivation was non-existent. She had read novels like this before, but she couldn't help but feel anger towards that nun who only cared about money.
Her chances of surviving in the outside world as a baby are lower than zero even with the milk and food given to her. A baby's immune system is terribly weak and it's raining outside as well. She doubts anybody will help her either as this is a medieval style world.
The nun took her out the door once more and grabbed the wooden box. A faint layer of Qi surrounded her body and shielded her against the rain. She walked to the street before laying her on the wet ground before putting the wooden box on top so rain wouldn't pour above. The water on the ground seeped into the cloth while the loud sound of rain bombarded the wooden box.
Xinyue cursed silently at her misfortune in this world, and was filled with the thoughts of haunting that evil nun. Although she's not afraid of death, she would prefer not to. Moreover, wouldn't it be the funniest thing in the world if she had just reincarnated into a cultivation world only to die shortly after?
Recalling her past, she couldn't help but remember that golden wheel in purgatory. Then she remembered how it spun and landed on that golden symbol. An hopeful idea sprung in her head and she glanced at the milk bottle next to her. Xinyue concentrated her mind and tried to imagine herself lifting it. She felt her mental energy drain rapidly as the milk bottle slightly trembled. She stopped concentrating and felt joy upon seeing the telekinesis work. Holy shit! It works! Maybe I can get out of this predicament! She happily thought.
After half an hour, she was feeling thirsty, but her mental capacity had restored itself and felt larger in capacity at the cost of her energy. If only she had enough strength to lift the bottle. She concentrated once more and felt the milky body tremble a bit more compared to before as her mental energy drained.
She waited half an hour again, feeling even more thirsty and hungry. Her mental capacity had restored and grown slightly, as she grabbed the milky bottle with her tiny hands. Using the tiny muscles, she attempted to lift it while using her ability. The bottle rose temporarily but she let go immediately to save mental energy. If I try to drink it from the bottle, it will likely spill everywhere. Maybe I should try lifting some of the liquid itself. She thought.
She concentrated on the liquid itself and it trembled in response. A drop of milk was separated before it exited the bottle, floating in the air as a single drop. That drop moved closer to her as she opened her mouth. It entered and moistened her tongue a little, making her feel slightly better.
This time it only drained my mentality by small percentage! I can probably get a few dozen drops in! She thought excitedly before calming herself down. The milk trembled and another drop left the bottle. It entered her mouth as she manipulated another drop. It wasn't until two dozen entered her mouth that she felt sleepy and exhausted.
