Chapter 85: The Suit Makes The Superman

A.T.C. Towers, Harlem, New York

System Message: Milestone Achievement-Integral Individual Charles Xavier was defeated 1/2 times. Relationship: X-men-Angered. Reward(s): $345.000. Bruce Wayne Final Suit- Beyond.

Cole was delighted to receive the tax-free deposit; $345,000 was a lot, especially for an orphan. The source of his delight was the system that protected him from the I.R.S. If he had not had the system, he would have been taxed almost twenty percent. This allowed him to focus on other aspects of his life without worrying about the tax implications of his finances.

Cole was not particularly interested in the grander details of how the system worked, nor did he care to understand them; why should he? The system worked for him; it was vague but still beneficial.

He smiled smugly at the thought of tax evasion before remembering he was an official businessman and owner. He would soon issue paychecks and all the other perks and kickbacks his employees required to work for a prestigious company.

He would need to set up some charities. He was an unknown York, but it was inevitable that he would be the focal point of many news articles. He could see it now: Reformed Heir to York Enterprises surfaces. He sighed, some enjoyment leaving him; not even the system could defeat the I.R.S. .

Awareness infested his mind in a pervasive way that sent shivers down his spine. 'That was new,' he thought. Cole was keenly aware that this newfound sensation was indebted to his broadening mental faculties and aptitude.

'Interesting,' he thought as realization spawned inside him from the dark recesses of his infinite potential,' sending his multifaceted mind careening toward dormant and untapped pathways by his earlier acuity.

He sat back, latching his hands. He stared down at his hands and acknowledged his posture was oddly specific. He was putting aside his quirk, a noticeable personality trait from his personas.

The Final Bat Suit opened up new spec pathways. The reward had a definite impact on his System Shop. It unlocked almost seventy percent of Wayne Enterprise and its subsidiary's items.

Cole slipped into the suit; its uniqueness is evident as it suctioned to his body. He marveled at the highly sophisticated form-fitting material, which he knew was a highly durable and proprietary synthetic polymer. Aside from the material's greatness and prominent lucrative aspect, what excited him had to be the upgrade material's century utility belt.

He checked the contents and found much of the same, but a nugget of contention was the Legion Flight ring in his palm. 'How did he get this?' The system didn't respond. Batman must have traveled sometime before he retired.

Cole technically could fly even though he couldn't have done so traditionally, which made him wonder why. Was he that busy? He tosses the ring, hasn't air, still wrapping his mind around his flight ability.

The ring hung in the air as he manipulated it with Ecto-telekinesis. Thanks to Xavier's attempts, he had grown some—the power to manipulate matter using ectoplasm.

'The suit makes the superman.' He thought, recalling the saying.'

The following few notifications were random relationship updates. He cleared them irritably with a swipe of his hand. The last two not only shocked him but caused him to gape.

System Message: The leader of The X-Men avoided. Relationship: Irrational Hatred.Reward: Ability: Thermal Vision.

——>Heat Vision: The ability to release massive amounts of thermal energy stored within the body through the eyes in focused beams of heat.

——> Cold Vision is the power to emit beams of freezing energy from one's eyes, opposite to Heat Vision.

System message Update: Stellar Achievement-Canonical Individual-Possesed Jean Grey defeated 1/2. Rewards(s) $2,500,000—The Glacier Stone.

He would have leaped from his seat. Two million was a lot, but the act he had committed seemed worthy of the money; though he fought dirty, he still one-upped the possessed Jean Grey. The second reward shocked him into stillness.

The Glacier Stone is one of The Thirteen Artifacts. Darkness! That was the first thing that came to his mind. Cole summoned the stone into his hand and immediately regretted it. Coldness crept through his hand from contact, freezing his hand around the object; he gritted his teeth as the stone overcame whatever resistance he held. He unsummoned the stone since he couldn't release it. He chuckled as he regained feeling in his hand.

He reread the heavily redacted notification. He had captured a spark of Phoenix fire by combining the cloak of a god of order with the binding of a god of mayhem and chaos. Had he known it would work? He assumed it would, having seen Dr.Fate and Sorcerer Supreme do similar things. It was a hailmary that paid off if anything. The Phoenix Fire was so advanced that it exceeded his system's authority, resulting in the system taking control of it.

'How long had it been since he leveled it up? By his reckoning, a couple of months. It was surreal that he hadn't been here a year and was still relatively weak in the grand scheme.

He summoned the stone on the desk. In the worst case, he lost his desk, but it just radiated, not destroying his excellent desk as it did to his hand. He gazed down at the artifact, observing the wisps of frigid energy emanating from the stone. Instinctively, he concentrated on the energy and immediately recoiled as he sensed the overwhelming power contained within.

He knew what he needed to do—progress his mutant ability. The Glacier Stone grants its wielder the power of Ice. Its Host can emit Ice from their bodies, sculpt it into any desired form, and even transform it into a giant made of Ice. In this form, their strength and durability surpass superhuman levels.

He wondered if Bobby Drake could manipulate the stone, but he honestly wouldn't hand it over" to him even under contract. Bobby was a Beyond Omega; at his peak, Ice Man had once frozen half of hell, and with the stone, he would turn Hell into Antarctica.

He yawned, checked the time, and stood; he needed to sleep and see what tomorrow brought him.

This is considered a mutant ability.
